Hi all,

I am desperately trying to find the rope to climb down the hole in the hidden book room. WT says it's at the smithy's on the hook to the left of the forge. I've been there a gazillion times, and no rope! I must have missed something somewhere, but for the life of me, I can't seem to figure out what. I've exhausted all conversational possibilities and picked up everything possible to pick up. (Maybe as soon as I post this, I'll figure it out...that's usually what happens).

.............Edit: I knew it. works every time (almost). I had a frayed rope in inventory. Cut it and ...viola...useable rope...............

I'm having the same problem only I haven`t got any frayed rope in my inventory:-( Anyone know _exactly_ what the trigger is for making the rope appear?

Do you not have any rope in your inventory? Did you check all the pages?
Did you pick the one up at the smithy?

Nope. No rope in inventory and there isn`t any at the smithys. There`s something that looks like a piece of cloth hanging from one of the hooks but you can`t pick that up.

See if you can take the one that was holding the library book case up.
I don't remember where I found one but there's one to use somewhere.

There were two bits early on in the game. One used for the well and one to winch the bookcase. According to the WT once you reveal the hidden passage in the floor there should then be a piece of rope to the left of the forge. Unfortunately there isn`t:-( I`v been through the WT and I can`t see what I`ve missed.

I tried to get the rope from the bookcase but no luck.

I`ll have another check to see if I`ve spoken to everyone as both characters, but if this doesnt work would it be possible for someone to send me a savedgame at the point where they`ve just revealed the hole in the floor and they either have rope already or it`s available at the forge?

Have exactly same problem like mj2c. Played again and found out there is little bug. When you have 2 ropes (picked at well and at smithy) and try to lift the bookcase you can "loose" them both:

1. You pull rope before knotting it up it falls on table and NOT picking it up BUT take another in inventory and lift bookcase the first (dropped one) on table disappear.

2. You can put second rope even after lifting bookcase on the perch and never get it back!

So only use one rope here or you dont have none when needed to climb down the hole afterwards!

I need some help with this game. I just came out of the scribe room found myself back, at nostraadamus house. They did everything that you are supposed to do in the room and according to the walk-through. You exit the Château and go down to the Smithy. But is nighttime and you cannot get into the smithy until the next day. How do I get to the next day, is nighttime now I'm gone up to her room. I've talked to nostradamus, but nothing works. Can you help me out here.

I finally solve the puzzle myself. Thanks anyway, the walk-through is not right the sword part should have came later then sooner.

I've used both ropes while trying to get the bookcase up, and am now at the hole and without a rope.

Has anyone figured out whether another rope becomes available somewhere in the game if you use two ropes early on?

Did you find a rope at the smithy's?

It seems like a dead end for some gamers. I replayed one gamer's game and I found the rope at the smithy's. The other gamer's game that I replayed, there was no rope by the smithy's.

Hi MaG -- I found two ropes early in the game (don't remember exactly where). I used one on the bookcase, and then put the other one on that pole thing that stood by the bookcases. Now when I go back, the pole thing with the rope on it is gone.

When I go to the smithy's I don't see a rope.

I just went back to a previous save. Yes, there used to be a rope by the forge, and I must have taken it earlier because the hook is empty now.

Argh! Do you want to send me your saved game and let me see. I can only try.

I'll send it and see if you can pull off another miracle!

Don't expect much. I tried it on the other gamer.
Maybe you can also send me the one where the rope is still at the smithy. I want to know where it went later.

Hello everyone....I started this game and I liked it very much,but unfortunately the game is bugged....I used one rope to lift up the bookcase and the other with wooden pole thing next to the bookcase,so now i don't have any ropes to use to climb down the hole....Has anyone any saves to give me,because i don't want ti start it all opver again.....Thanx in advance (Sorry if my english isn't good)
