According to the German website Krawall there has been a press release about the mini-games we can expect in Steve Ince/Wizarboxes adventure So Blonde.

The German version gets slightly delayed from a 'February' release to 14th March. The international release date has, as far as I know, not been confirmed yet (Steve, if you read this, do you know?). Please excuse any translation errors, neither English nor German are my first language.
=== message begins ===
Some of the mini-games in So Blonde will be:
Coconut Adventure
Catch water drops in half a coconut. This mini-games looks a lot like the LCD-games of the past (Gameboy etc).

Marias Training
This game is based on the 'shock wire' principle. Sunny must follow a certain course within the given time.

Blonde Blonde Revolution
A rhythmic game based on Dance Dance Revolution in which Sunny tries to relieve Bajari from his head ache by drumming a melody.

Bucket Well
The well-known tile-puzzle. In order to get a bucket of water, Sunny has to put some symbols in the correct order.

Fireflies Catcher
Another game based on the old LCD games, avoid snakes and catch fire-flies.

Log Chopper
Not much info on this one, just that it is 'retro'.
=== message ends ===
It should be noted that the mini-games will only be a small proportion of the game and will not be very difficult. They're only there to provide a bit of fun and some variation in gameplay. I've seen Steve play the coconut one in Leipzig and it really wasn't very challenging (or else he was very good at making it look easy lol ).

Easy or not, how dissapointing to hear they put them in there. I'm having flashbacks of Atlantis Evolution or Nancy Drew with their Arcade games stuck in there. <sigh>

Thanks for the update Pollo!

Well, this one sounds like it'll be fun to watch. Maybe there will be a bypass of some sort. Gotta keep blonde gamers happy! laugh

Pollo Diablo, hi,

You'd think that Steve Ince, with his extensive adventure game design experience, would know better than to incorporate arcade sequences in his upcoming game. Just look at all the extremely bad press that Next Life/Reprobates is getting over this very issue!

Steve hangs out here, so he can't NOT KNOW what his target audience thinks about arcade sequences in adventure games. Unless...

a. The GameBoomers demographic is not the target audience for So Blonde.

or

b. The sequences are either possible to bypass (like the airborne ship fighting stuff in Jade Empire) or they are so trivial that 100 people won't be up here looking for saved games, like usually happens frown (case in point: the Still Life laser room puzzle)

Pollo Diablo did say:

Quote:
It should be noted that the mini-games will only be a small proportion of the game and will not be very difficult.

Steve, care to roll in with some comments?

Regards,
MetzO'Magic

Um, does this put Steve on the spot, or what? :shiver: Maybe he'll issue a press release through a third party. grin

(Steve, you can whisper an answer in my ear if you like.) cool

Now that I am home from work and had a chance to look further, here is what I found:

According to the link in Pollos post, the first paragraph translates like this:
Quote:
The game, for his story of the adventure-author Steve Ince ( "Baphomet's curse") is responsible, with additional mini games there. These are incorporated into the story, but may also wish to be skipped.

It sounds as though they can be skipped.

Seems to me that nobody looked at the screenshots for So Blonde in Carla's updated thread. I did and yes, I saw the screenshots for several of the mini-games. One looked like a possible slider to me with a 16-square grid. Or it might be possible to pick up the squares and move them around which would make it easier, for me anyway since it would be more like a jigsaw type of puzzle. I also saw the one where Sunny plays the drums (looked like 3 big native bongo drums to me) with colored notes floating in the air. I'm thinking the notes might help if you are tone deaf and rhythm impaired to make it possible to do this without getting a save, I hope. Then there was also one where it looked like it would be necessary to catch some falling stuff (water drops, nuts, whatever) by running back and forth, at least that is what I thought when I saw it. So I'm already prepared for facing the mini-games, beating them is another story, but I'll try.

To love is to be happy with!

Why do you think that no one looked at the screenshots Sierra? I certainly did and that's why we are discussing the inclusion of them.

Well, I jumped to that conclusion when I read that you were disappointed "to hear" about the mini-games, whereas I already knew about them before I even started to read this thread. So I figured you hadn't seen the screenshots or you would have already known about them the same way I did, since I saw them with my own eyes already. Makes sense to me anyway. Can't speak for anyone else.
So Blonde happens to be one of the three games that I have already decided to buy.

I recommend that there should be three difficulty levels for the minigames: Natural Blonde, Bleached Blonde and Brunette. You pick a level as you start the game, and can exit and pick a new level whenever. In Natural Blonde, you win just by walking across the screen while chewing gum.

I was given a brief, part of which was to incorporate minigames into the design. Although I found places where we could put them, much of the design of them is down to the talented guys at Wizarbox.

a. The GameBoomers demographic is not the target audience for So Blonde.

The game is aimed very squarely at everyone who loves traditional point-and-click adventures, Wizarbox simply wanted to put in something extra to vary the gameplay and have a bit of fun. The mini-games are not designed as show-stoppers and there is even a means of bypassing them if you get too frustrated. We wanted to add variety, but in a way not to alienate our core audience. I always bear in mind comments and thoughts given ganuinely by players.

Oh dear. I can't do those sort of games & quite frankly don't want to - why can't software houses just give us a good adventure without all the things that put people off ( timed games & co ordination tests )

Steve, I'm glad to hear the mini games can be skipped. Sometimes the mini games can be fun--but often they are just aggravating, so the skip option is wonderful. thanks

We have the choice to skip! Yay! I'll try them just to watch Sunny trying to do them. Nice to know I won't have to beat them though.

I quite enjoy mini-games, as long as they aren't impossibly difficult or so intrusive and interminable that they slow down the main gameplay. Their inclusion certainly wouldn't deter me from buying a game. It'll be interesting to see how these ones turn out.
