Does anyone know why the game developers can't make the character movement move natural? It was esprcially noticeable in The Lost Crown.

Since this isn't a glitch, I'll move the topic to Discussion.

wave As far as 'Lost Crown' is considered, it is the conception and development of one man, Jonathan Boakes. Given that this is the case, I think he did an amazing job.

I'm sure they can make character movement more natural if they were so inclined. I guess they didn't feel it was so un-natural that it needed to be addressed. Unfortunately, adventure games aren't nearly as popular with the gaming community as other genres, hence they have to try to get these games to market with a much lower budget. I suspect that's why they are not as polished as the more popular genres.

Well, animation is a craft. One of the most difficult in fact and it take lot of time of practise and study to become at least mediocore animator. Good animators aren´t cheap therefore and work rather in companies which are developing more popular genres that sells better...

As mr. Boakes did Lost Crown all by himslef, it is rather remarkable succes that he manage to finish it in 3rd person as this pov demands much more work then 1st person smile

Playing: Witcher2
Developing: secret action game, secret HO adventure game :-)
Developed:Tale of a Hero, Mafia II, Silent Hill:Downpour

I didn't say that it wasn't a good game. It is merely an observation I've had the same observation with quite a few games. I haven't played any action games so I have no idea what they're like. Expense is a good reason. why must you folks be so defensive? duh

Hi,escakacs

I really never gave it much thought think
As long as the character moves along & subtitles help..

I would think it would be very hard to lip sync..Match the lips with the words...etc..etc..

Not mention the cost to produce such a game...Everything is done by computer now a days...I do think in time it will get better.. wave

Good question Escakacs, It's fascinating learning how they do things. I recall watching a TV special, on Disney I believe, on animators. The most difficult is getting a normal gait while animating walking. They have the resources to use live models and equipment that can take it from actual footage of the live models and then "animating it". I'm sure this is way beyond the budget of most developers that are making adventure games. Maybe some day....we can still dream. yay

My favorite is still the penguin walk of Poirot. grin

They can make 3d characters move like a person but as Ana pointed out, they would need to have live people hooked up with sensors to capture the movements. That would blow the budget and time deadlines for games to do that (especially AG games where they don't get marketed as much as FPS or RPG).

For me in adventure games, graphics are always secondary to plot and puzzles.

There's a phrase "willing suspension of disbelief". It does apply I feel to accepting the way a game depicts its world, be it storing ladders in pockets or not perfectly realistic walk patterns.

I don't mind so much how they walk just wish I could hurry them up some-- at times-- run when I want them to--I can move pretty quick once I go through the scenery a few times--But I guess I would rather walk slowly than like with some games- if they go to quickly any way they want-- I get an upset stomach. I would think escakacs that with time- since technology is changing so fast it won't be long before they have the tools and they are cheap enough for the developers to use to make charators flow more naturally.

A willing suspension of disbelief. I like that. It aptly describes how I feel about games. They're my own little world where "fantasy is fact" to quote Grace Slick. It's kind of poetic!

The continuity howlers in games I find delightful, they often provide a giggle that lightens up the dull plodding game when you stumble on them.. Frogwares and others that are developed in the old eastern block countries give us an endless supply of amusement. .

I've never seen a game yet with realistic characters. That's one of the reasons I much prefer first person games!!

The fantasy is fact quote might have been Ted Nugent? think
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
With further exhaustive research, I've found that "fantasy is fact" is actually Ted Nugent singing a Ramones song!!
