Please can someone explain why some games have only sections with subtitles? I'm playing Culpa Innata and some speech has subtitles and some does not. Can anyone explain? I'm not deaf but I would be cross if I was

Has any one seen any little gray cells around as I think I've lost some? Reward for finder.

Important lines required to progress in the game has subtitles, the rest do not.

I can see what you'r saying Ana but the line about the bobby pin was not subtitled. It just seems strange because it just makes life harder for any one who is deaf. I know we have some deaf GB'ers and they have written here that playing games helps them to keep in touch with the hearing world. wave

Really? I didn't know that? I thought that if a game has subtitles it has for everything...

Movies do not have subtitles for everything either if you are watching a foreign film.

There are other games that do not have subtitles at all.

Even people who can normally hear fine in real life may have problems hearing over the music, or making out what a character is saying if he speaks with an unfamiliar accent.

That's true... I always but the subtitles on in every game i play in case i don't understand something... I have seen subtitles that even the environment noises are being written... That's way i misunderstood i think... smile

I'm a big fan of subtitles too. Often they aren't present during cut scenes, and I wish they were.

If a developer has spent a lot of time working on a character's lip sync, I can see why they would want to leave off the subtitles because people are reading the subtitles instead of admiring the lip sync. Or sometimes, I suppose that subtitles might seem to disrupt a game's atmosphere. But I'd much rather have the subtitles anyway.

Well said Becky. bravo My partner is getting very deaf so it's " no subtitles = no watch" cry He plays Civilisation which does not need subtitles.

Ditto, Dragon, I like the subtitles just in case I miss hearing what they say. I am very visual and I just don't pay as much attention to hearing as I do seeing the words. Only problem is that I am looking at words when something happens that I need or want to see! lol

blush Subtitles are also really helpful if you find yourself playing far into the night/morning and don't want to wake up your wife (Or new, incredibly beautiful, grand-daughter)

Hi smile

I'm a big "sub-title" fan too yes

In fact I'd rather have text and no speech than the other way round grin

Cheers.

I have moderate hearing loss. It can be difficult in some games to catch everything being said over music and heavy ambient sound effects (I tend to turn those way down in options when I can if they are not crucial to game play). Sometimes the character's voice/accent can be a little annoying, distracting or make it difficult to discern exactly what is being said as well. So needless to say I am huge fan of subtitles!! I wish every game had them. Most modern ones have that option, but older ones don't.

I recently ventured back into the world of the original Myst.
A great deal of that game is so dependent on hearing precisely the correct sounds and tones. It made me think that might be unfair for those who are deaf or have severe hearing disabilities.

I like the game having subtitles for everything (cut scenes, original story etc). I think that without subtitles the game is nude!

My hearing is fine, yet I like subtitles in a game. Without them it's so easy to miss a subtle hint in the conversation. I would really appreciate subtitles in tone based puzzles, because I'm completely tone deaf! laugh

I also prefer subtitles in games and movies even though my hearing is fine. Alot of this has to do with the fact that I have dogs and at times their barking causes me to miss important conversations in games as well as in movies,

I, too, am a very big fan of subtitles and wish they would be on all the scenes. Ghostly voices typically use a reverb or echo quality to add eerieness. That makes it virtually impossible for me to understand what is being said. Beyond the Spirit's Eye is a good example. I know I missed a great deal of the plot just because I couldn't understand what was being said in the cut scenes. I'm currently playing (and LOVING) Lost Crown but I fervently wish I could understand what the various ghosts are saying. Although their words are probably not vital to the overall game play, they would add a dimension.

So, put me down as a "YES! YES!" for subtitles.

Yep, another Huge Fan of subtitles here too. I always have them on in games and in movies. I can hear one on one conversations just fine but add in the background music and ambient sounds (which I love) and a lot of the conversation can be lost to me.

I also really love it when the options include being able to adjust speech volume separately from the other sound. puppy

I vote for subtitles for everything in adventures.

i remember too many years ago in gK-2. Gabe had some sort of Texan accent i think or whatever
He drawled something that had important to the gameplay but i couldn't make it out.i replayed that part 12 times but still couldn't understand it. duh
