I have recently tried to download several BFG games, three of which are Lost in the City, Sleepy Hollow and Serpent of Isis. I was under the impression that the Games Manager automatically resumed the download if the connection was interrupted for any reason. However, what has happened to me recently is that I have got to 99% download, and then the next thing I see is a message on the Games Manager to say that the download has failed. And I have to start the download all over again.

I have to pay for every single precious MB that I download and these failed downloads are costing me an absolute fortune here. I shall contact BFG but I just wondered if this has been happening to anyone else.

By the way, I should add that I am still connected to the internet whenever I get these error messages.

Hi Rosaboobie wave

This has never happened to me but I encourage you to contact Big Fish game support. My experience with them has been awesome and they have quickly resolved the problems I have had. They are the best. Hopefully they provide assistance with your problem

good luck

The BigFish Game Manager checks the file after downloading to make sure you got a good download before it tries to install the game. It doesn't check the download as it's downloading. You can get a bad download without having the connection interrupted. If you have noisy phone or cable lines, you'll be prone to receiving bad downloads.

I had problems getting a good download of Return to Ravenhurst because of noisy phone lines.

I have trouble a couple of times (and just lately several days ago)but i know what problem is for me: i have DSL-lite Thru my phone co..Windstream. I live in town but 'too far out'(now, mind ou, i live approx 5miles from center of city and is a BIG city!) to get the regular DSL (can't wait till later in year when i am going to get the 'real' broadband'from the cable company!)..anyway..we have phone lines that have not been replaced in over a decade..they just splice here and there...so have always had problems. Anytime we get a bit of wind of lots of rain or ice/snow you know you're going to have problems. Windstream took over the service in the area a couple years ago..before that it was Verizon/GTE but no one ever replaced the old line..i've been here since 1990 and the lines now are the ones that were here a decade before i moved here.

Its just so weird that it always always gets to the magic figure of 99% before it decides to fail.

I am actually now connecting via the local mobile network system which, I have to say is a darn more reliable than my previous method, the satellite dish.

I'm very lucky in this regard...I live out in the middle of nowhere (relatively speaking) and just happen to be located where I can get cable internet (they had to check to see where the house was, first, as some people can't get it here), and no trouble downloading Big Fish Games at all.

Otherwise, I might have had to consider moving! lol

I hope you can get it sorted, Rosaboobie. I used to be on dial-up here, and when it comes to problems downloading, I've probably seen them all. luck

Hi Rosaboobie,

You are not alone. I've been dealing with failed downloads and interrupted downloads for a while now. I don't have the pay for download time that you do so I just keep trying. I have emailed BFG about this; in fact I send an email to BFG Guy's GB PM box and have received no reply. There's even a discussion forum on Gamezebo about this very issue. The only probable cause answer I've read is what I see in this thread, about the phone lines. I'm disappointed that I haven't seen any BFG message addressing this issue if only to acknowledge that their consumers are dealing with a frustrating problem. It's aggravating but sooner or later the game downloads and, of course, the game price can't be beat. In your case, however, you may be paying almost as much as purchasing it in the store with no download problems. I hope BFG does us the courtesy of addressing it soon.

Butterflybabe, BFG-Guy has a well trained staff that he employs to address these issues. Please use the support address for any questions you may have.

As aggravating as the issue may be, they can do nothing about your IP service. Perhaps you can call your Internet Provider and let them know.

I have the same problem with large file games. Anything over 80,000 km fails. I don't know why. I have worked with Big Fish on the problem but I still cannot download any large file games. If it's a game that I think I would like I go ahead and purchase it with a back up cd. The back up disk gets here quickly(about a week) and then the game will install. The only problem with this is that I have to purchase the game without a demo so I risk buying something that I don't like.

yes I also have the same problem only with large files from BFG, always at 99%, yet never have this happen when downloading Gig games from adventureshop. I have DSL so on BFG I just re-install big file games again, usually 2nd or 3rd time is the charm that works.

I'm also having this problem. Downloads from BFG take forever and are constantly interrupted. I have DSL but I don't have this problem downloading from other companies. And this has been happening just in the last year or so. When I first joined BFG casual game downloads finished in about five minutes. Now it can take up to half an hour for the casual games. Large file games take at least an hour, sometimes much longer.

I'm not complaining so much as simply stating what I've been experiencing. It'd be nice if this they could fix this though. I'd like to be able to start a download and walk away, not have to babysit it the whole time.

Rosaboobie hi! I have had this happen to me once or twice. When I look at the download in the games manager it shows that the download was not completed.

All you have to do is 'click' on 'resume' and that is what it will do. My hic-cups have been with large file games but I have always been able to resume the download.

Hope this helps!

BET, looking at and following BFGs instructions was the first thing I did. Long story short, this downloading issue has tried my patience; guess that's what happens after being spoiled by BFG for so long. Anyway, my IP will be my next place to seek help. Argh! woozy

Bernie - My installation is not just being interrupted or not completed. The message on the Games Manager actually says Download Failed. And then I have to start all over again.

Just wondering if I still have the current version of the Games Manager - Mine is Version 2.5.17 - and thanks for the troubleshooting link which I had studied already, and it did not help me I am afraid.

Do you have Vista?
If you have UAC (User Account Control) enabled on Vista, and are using an account with Administrator privileges, Vista will put up a Window after the download has finished, asking if you want to allow the install. If you don't say "Yes" within a certain amount of time, the Games Manager will say the download failed. If this happens, you can usually just click the Install on the download manager button again and it will attempt to install again without re-downloading.

The Vista Window may pop up behind the Download Manager, but if it does, you should see it blinking on the taskbar.

If you want to disable UAC, check here
http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm
UAC is enabled by default.

If you are not using an account with adminstrator privileges, Vista may be blocking the install without showing the window.

I had this problem with Nostradamus. Unfortunately I also pay for bandwidth and MB so I can't download it over and over. I've already downloaded it three times and each time it screws up at the install phase. I can still start the game but it freezes in the first part. I've emailed Bigfish but they never got back to me which is a first. I'll give the online assistant thing a chance one of these days when my badwidth is low and I can download again.

No, I am using Windows XP. I just find it strange that the download gets to 99% each time, and then fails. I would have thought that, if you reached say 98% download successfully, before you get this error message, then you would only have the remaining 2% to download.

On my fourth attempt now at trying to download Flux Family Secrets. Because I have read here that its an excellent game, I will simply order the CD but I cant do this with every single demo I want to try out!

I downloaded, installed and activated The Serpent of Isis--which I was dying to play---I never could get it to play, even with numerous contacts with BFG--we tried everything. They gave me a coupon for a free game, but I was so disappointed not to have been able to play it as everyone was raving about how good it was. That is the only time I have ever had a problem with not being able to play a BFG game once it has been activated.

I was having similar issues, but resolved them by using Internet Explorer to download games instead of Mozilla. I haven't had a problem since then.

I have d/l and installed Cate West: Vanishing Files so many times, that I just gave up. I would get to the end of Chapter 3 and it would send me right back to my desktop.

With the new Cate West, I'm not having any problems - so far. I am just starting Chapter 6.

Rosa, I had a similar problem with a different game. It turned out there was a portion of the Windows Firewall turned on that I was not aware of.

I turned it off and the game finished. This may not be your problem, but it never hurts to check luck

I had this happen and Big Fish had me download something and save it to the desktop. Then right click and go to compatibility and check a couple things and......walla the game installed. I have Vista and sometimes the games seem to have a problem loading so this allows me to do it in XP SP2 mode.
