I am looking to download some good freeware games and need some recommendantions.
Any game has to :
1) be able to run on a netbook
2) does not need the internet to play once installed
3) 3rd person adventure/rpg only
4) has a walkthrough available

Yes but I did but with so many there how do I know which ones are considered to be very good and which ones not so good. With freeware games there can be a HUGE difference in quality. It would take forever to go search out reviews for each and every one thus I was hoping to get some ideas from people who actually have played the games.

jzt,

All the freeware games are checked by Chief.
He submits games he knows are rated well or recommended by other gamers.

I agree, it would take that long to check all those things you wanted done.
We're all volunteers here, so we just help out.

If you want, you can volunteer and check all those games we have listed. That will help other gamers and the site as you stated. How about it?

BTW - the games that have walkthroughs have listings on them.

Only a fortnight ago I happened to notice on another forum a very good freeware game with an excellent walkthrough containing full points as you go along.
It is "Ben Jordan Number 7: The Cardinal Sins" the one before the very last of the 8 part series.
Each game can be played thro without the others but it is good to play the whole series - not necessarily in ordr.
This one is unique in having speech in addition to text and the voice acting for a freeware game is first class.

I know.
But he wanted to know a really very good one and not many have professional type voice acting or an excellent very detailed w/t with points included as you play and sum-ups every now and then.

I understand that harhan, what I am saying is that we have the game with a direct link to the game and the walkthrough in our own freegames section rather than having to go through a thread in another forum. grin Chief works hard to gather the games and keep it updated.

People ask for regular adventure game recommendations all the time based on what they like in a game so what is the differnce here. I never see anyone tell them to check out every game themself. I wasn't asking anyone to do research. I would never expect that. Just if they played any and can recommend it.

Thank you Harhan for your suggestion.

The Boomer link to the game is admirable but the w/t is fairly primitive, does not give a proper running points list and in fact is not even quite complete.
It starts with the sentence "I only got 105/106 points... I wonder why?! And what happens if I get all the points?"

Sorry Ana. Is there anything wrong in mentioning that ?
I adidnt know there was anything bad in quoting another forum. Ive often seen the reverse from that forum to Boomers
I apologise if Ive unwittigly broken any GB rules.
But sorry and of course theres no need to go through another forum, the far better professional w/t is at

harhan, if you have read the entire topic from which I got my WT, the author probably got is 106 points.

So, I stand for my choice in the same way you prefer the other one. I guess it comes to a matter of each ones opinion.

harhan, we work hard to keep this site updated and while there is nothing wrong with linking to another site for NEW information, it would be nice to reference our own forum if the info is here. Otherwise what's the point of us spending our time doing anything around here? duh

jzt, generally a person asks for horror game recommendations or a game similar to Nancy Drew etc. Your list was a bit extensive for general responses.

Thats your prerogative.
But whoever the w/t writer is, he and a couple of others after him slipped up on one point and obtained only 105/106 points - as mentionrd above.
I know why since I did exactly the same thing the first time I played the game and since I got annoyed with myself, I played it a second time with the fuller w/t to get all 106 points which can be checked easily since there's no mistaking the proper ending with 106/106 points very clearly displayed etc.
There are other things not too good about that w/t - but it's not for me to point them out or criticize at all

But of c0urse I won't argue with you and since you prefer the earlier walkthrough thats fine by me
Best to let well alone.

P.S. I only just now noticed that the previous w/t was written by somebody who calls himself/herself " The Pirate Reviewer aka thepr" but I dont know who that is.

Hi jzt,
Of the games on the list by Chief I've played and enjoyed 5 Magical Amulets, Flight of the Amazon Queen (originally a commercial game that after a time went to freeware) and Other Worlds. All 3 had walkthroughs when I played them, but I don't know if Other Worlds still has one. It was a good game but I never would have been able to finish it without help, just so you know. These are all third-person games. What's a netbook?

To love is to be happy with!
