Hi everyone. I've been home sick all this week and my hubby is working out of town, so I'm alone as well. Anyway, I'm bored and ready to throw the tv out the window (lol) so I'm eager for something new or at least new to me, to play. Does anyone have any good ideas about adventure games that have really pretty scenery where I can sort of walk around and just lose myself in the graphics?

PS I know that there are probably ALOT of games so I'll help by saying I've played the Myst games, ND games, and alot of the "newer" games from late last year through today.

Thanks SO much,
Cat smile

i enjoy the carol reed games for wandering - they are so beautifully done, and the quality of the light is amazing - it's a place i would love to visit and paint in real life.

smile I'm amazed at the lack of response to this question. I would have thought that scenery was a major element of any game. Anyway, I have a few submissions to a "Great Scenery" list. These are URU, Dead Reefs, and Darkness Within. Each of these is very different from the others, but each has beautiful and unique scenery. Please note, I doubt that you'll be able to 'lose yourself' in Darkness Within. It's gorgeous, but somehow unpleasant.

If all the people were heroes, there would be no one to watch the parades.

Most of the games I listed in the "underrated games" thread have what I think of as "great scenery."

A Quiet Weekend in Capri and Anacapri: the Dream have great scenery, and it's certainly easy to get lost in them. If you're looking for a "sightseeing game" these would be among the best.

Yoomurjak's Ring is another one that has real pictures of a real place, and allows you to walk around there and see it as if on a holiday there.

Thanks so much you guys for the great ideas. I'm going to see if I can find these on ebay or maybe here on the trading post and then get busy relaxing! smile

PS I've had Ana change my name to my real name, Tracy, so if you don't see Cat or Catbelly 36 that's why. smile

Tracy have you played the Syberia games?

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

I second Space Quest Fan's post. I just got the games a few days ago and love the background views.

Thanks Space Quest and Adam. I have played the Syberia games and absolutely loved them. Maybe I could pull out the laptop, curl up in bed and replay....I always was mesmerized by the scenery in those games. smile

Keepsake had a lot of sites that you can see and atmosphere a plenty. Hardly anyone you can talk too but lots of puzzles.

I couldn't even respond to this one...there are so many it's incredible. Why I love to play adventure games on my desktop.
The Myst games were ahead of their time as far as environmental scenery.
For creepiness, who can beat Boakas' games?Dark Fall 3 is stunningly creepy. Lost Crown is hauntingly beautiful. So was the first Syberia game. A couple of the Atlantis games were gorgeous.Momento Mori is sweet-looking,Tunguska is richly active...many of the Kheops games (Cleopatra ,the Egyptian games and others)are wonderful to look at.
The Mysterious Island games, and Destination Treasure Island. The old Timelapse was graphically ahead of its time,Amber Journeys Beyond also was creepy and haunting. Those last 2 stick in my mind after many years.
So many beautiful games!
Then of course, there are the action games, like Just Cause,Far Cry,Crysis,Cryostasis,Prey, and of course Bioshock.
My Dell XPS computer is now 4 years old and luckily I am still able to use it (and WinXP) to play all my adventure games.
Soon enough, sadly,I wont be able to,as too many games will be switching over to DirectX10 and WIn7 or Vista and I'll have to bite the bullett and buy a new rig.

Riven..for me my fave! The area where you step down to the lagoon just blows me away every time! Is just like a little mini vacation!

Cathy1 I have to agree with you about Keepsake being beautiful. I'm glad it was too because that is about all I got out of it. That game was harder than driving home on New Years eve for me. Did anyone else find that game tough?

Hi,
I don't know if you can find it but Alida is just beautiful. Tricky puzzles, but very pretty. Maybe it's time to play it again.

Yep, play it again ssgamer
I always liked Byzantine, cos much of it really was the scenery of Istanbul. Many years after I played it I went to Istandbul, and went to several places on the sterngth of what I had seen in the game. A 300 year old map has pride of place on my wall thanks to the map and book section of the Grand Bazaar, thanks to the game.

Tracy...also i am pretty much a 'shut in' (mobility issues)and in between a nice long adventure game i discovered the 'casual games' at BigFishGames . They have all types but i got interested in the HOG (hidden object game)and now they've developed IHOG's and most of them have a pretty good story as well as having some good puzzling! Here at 'boomers if you check out the 'Casual Games' forum you can find out more! By the way...Riven is available for download from gog.com and supposed now to run fine on xp and Vist..not sure about Win7 though. I got it and downloaded it over weekend but not installed yet..this way don't Have to have the disk to play like before!...ALSO--you might consider joining and playing MOUL (MystOnlineUruLive)it is an online game...and there's a post in this forum (URU Live coming to life?)about that..it has awesome graphics AND you can chat with fellow gameboomers!! I would truly recommend it..(and definately download the FULL Install file..saves you a LOT of time in long run!)

It's not an adventure game, its an online, multi user rolepaying game, but Guild Wars has some beautiful scenery.

Right now I'm playing Mysterious Journey II, the sequel to Schizm. It's an older game, but plays great on Vista, with no tweaks necessary, and the scenery is great. The puzzles are also fun, some a little tricky, but all are doable.

Gamenut, I agree with you about Riven. That particular scene just made my mouth drop open in wonder. I remember thinking - how do people think up these things and then put them in such a wonderful game.

Why not try out Uru Live. It's free and there's so many beautiful gardens, city views, waterfalls, fountains, etc. You don't even really have to play anything. You can just sit and relax.

I would second the Capri games and Byzantine.

But there is one rare game that is really beautiful, but I'm not sure it's "scenery" as much as rooms and the game is incredibly hard: Blue Ice.

Syberia 1&2. The winter scenes are beautiful.(The train trips are awesome!)
Also the artwork in the Nancy Drew series is great! Especially the interiors.
And yes the Carol Reed backgrounds are great too!
