Adventure gamers, please be careful when you buy games at Steam. If the game for some reason or another does not work on your PC, they will not refund you or even let you have another game for the same money. They dont tell you that in plain words, however. Instead they just keep stalling you, repeating various standard solutions, like updating your drivers, DirectX etc. And furthermore you have to wait at least 3-4 days to get an answer each time you mail them. A very effective method to make customers give up trying. In my case the game was Secret files 2, which apparantly wont run under Win 7. I contacted the game´s support site (Koch Media) but that was basically all they told me. The error message indicated that I needed a disk in my cdrom-drive. I would have thought such a problem could be easily fixed, but that did not seem to be the case. My impression though, was that they really did not want to be reminded of this particular game. In my case 20 Euro down the drain, maybe not a fortune, but still an experience I could have done without.

On the game download specs it clearly states : OS: Windows 2000/XP/Vista Processor: Pentium III or 100% compatible processor Memory: 256 MB RAM Graphics: DirectX® 9 compatible AGP or PCI Express video card (at least 32 MB) DirectX®: 9.0c Hard Drive: 2 GB hard disk space Sound: DirectX® 9 compatible 16 bit sound card (optional) If you purchased the game at a brick and mortar store and opened it and it would not work because you had Win7 and it was not listed on the specs, they would not return it either. That is standard practice. I am sorry you are out money but checking around on other sites or forums like our Glitches dept to see if others have been able to run games not supported by your OS is a good practice before you purchase. I don't know if this will help but we had problem running SF2 on my sister in laws windows 7... although it was a different issue you could try this and see if it does anything... we were able to load DVD and play the game after updating her Tages for her 64 bit windows system. hope it helps http://www.tagesprotection.com/main.htm

Ah - don't give in yet !! You could also try this... XP Mode Since we don't know what the specs of your PC are - other than Win 7, you might have some luck with the above download.

Would you like this moved to Glitches so they can offer you help on getting it running? Ana

Secret Files 2 runs perfectly for me on Windows 7 64 bit. I did have to update Tages as Winfrey did for Tunguska, though. It does make me wonder if there's some problem with their version, since they're asking for a disk.

Secret Files 2 is listed as working in ***Draclvr's Windows 7 and games thread***. If you're playing a download version and it's asking for a disc, I don't know if updating TAGES is going to help because you'll still have no disc for TAGES to check. But lykkesholm51 could try Googling for a NoCD for the game. lykkesholm51's experience doesn't say much for Steam's tech support though. None of their games should be asking for discs.

That is standard practice. Ana I suppose it depends where you buy it. In the UK there is a good chance they would replace/refund. The problem with going by the game spec is if the game made before Win7 was out then it wouldnt be on there anyway. If it doesnt work with Win7 then they should specifically say so.

Lykkes, perhaps you can try creating XP mode to run SF2. Here's a link to how to create XP mode even if you have Win 7 Home Premium - Creating win XP mode in Win 7 Home Versions/Vista I just got a new laptop with Win 7 and I also have SF2 (which I haven't tried in W7 yet) but I have a couple of other games that I installed in Win 7 that won't run in Win 7, so I'm going to tinker with my new Win 7 laptop to create XP mode and I'll keep you posted on how it goes, ok?

win xp mode win 7 is not meant to play games only applications Plumgas, The "XP Mode" that Cruise02 linked to is not actually XP Mode. It's VMware Player with its appearance tweaked to make it look like XP Mode. Since VMware Player does emulate 3D video, it's possible to play some games that require a 3D video card using VMware Player.
