I'm not sure all the numbers makes sense (arcade games seem a crazily small percentage, for instance) or how exactly they are defining "adventure game," but the results certainly are interesting. (Note, the study is in .pdf format.)

What an interesting study! I'm glad they're finally taking notice of women playing games. I can remember just a few years ago the male sales clerks in gaming stores doing a double take when I'd say I was buying a game for myself and not my "son". lol

"So, Holmes. What are we doing now?"

Interesting to contrast that with the ***Interview with Scorpia*** at Gamasutra. Her closing statement was
Quote:
As to attracting a female audience, I suspect that might be done if the companies paid attention to the complaints and worked to resolve them. Of course, that's IF the companies really want to attract more women gamers. They can say what they like, but actions speak louder than words.

Although there are casual and adventure game developers that are doing this, it doesn't seem to extend so much to other genres -- especially those that favor MMO type games.

Wow, Jenny, your mention of Scorpia (and seeing that article) really takes me back in time. I remember back in the 1980s or thereabouts my having written to Scorpia to get past a stuck point in a game (this note was, of course, via snail mail). And, about a week later, I got a letter back from her in the mail with the answer/hints I needed to continue on with the game. smile

I think the biggest surprise is that no one offered her another reviewer's position after she left Computer Gaming World! Maybe no one knew how to contact her, except via snail mail, and they didn't know how to use a stamp?
