Hi all,

I haven't had much time to play adventure games in recent years. While I am hard at work on my next project, I think the "itch" has finally become unbearable: I want to play another game.

What I'm looking for is a scary "whodunnit" murder mystery, in a similar vein to Still Life. In particular, I want to investigate a murder case with lots of clues, hidden secrets, and a group of suspects, one of whom will turn out to be the killer.

Here are some murder mysteries I've already played:

Black Dahlia
The Black Mirror
Clue Chronicles: Fatal Illusion
Conspiracies
CSI Games (all)
Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy)
Jack the Ripper (2004)
L.A. Noire
The Last Express
The Mystery of the Druids
Nancy Drew games (all)
Panic in the Park
Point of View
Police Quest (all)
Post Mortem
Ripper (the one with Christopher Walken)
Still Life 1 & 2
Temujin
Tex Murphy (all)

Please only recommend games that adhere to the formula above - crime, investigation, clues, and suspects - and please only recommend serious games (nothing comedic). Also, please nothing supernatural, unless it's a very small part of the game. You can recommend both adventures and other genres.

What about And Then There Were None? Was that any good? Also, is Sherlock Holmes Vs. Jack the Ripper along the lines of what I'm looking for?

Thanks. I can't wait to see your suggestions!

I think Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper is an excellent choice!

I didn't care for Sinking Island myself (Microids) but that is all clues and suspects, which is probably why. Should be enough to keep any armchair detective happy. grin

I'll second SH vs Jack the Ripper. Very good game. Arsene Lupin, too, come to think of it.

The Gabriel Knight series is possibly my all-time favorite. I'm just not looking for supernatural right now. smile

Thanks for the suggestions so far! As of now, I'll look into SH vs. Jack the Ripper, Sinking Island, and Arsene Lupin. Keep them coming!

Given what you're looking for, you should definitely try one of the Agatha Christie adventures -- Murder on the Orient Express (as I recall) is somewhat more clue-based/procedural than And Then There Were None, though you'd probably enjoy ATTWN too.

You might also give Culpa Innata a try.

Evil Under The Sun is another good Agatha Christie game featuring Hercule Poirot.

Have you played Dagger of Amon Ra? One of the best mystery games I've played, though you'd need doxbox to get it working.

Becky - I tried Culpa Innata but wasn't a fan.

I'll look into the Agatha Christie adventures.

I have not ever played Dagger of Amon Ra. I have DOSBox installed, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I'll look into all of these. You've given me lots of options. Thanks, everyone!

I recently replayed the three main Agatha Christie games and whilst they are certainly "whodunits" I wouldn't class them as "scary" smile

Oops, missed the scary part. Well, neither is Arsene Lupin but it's Sherlock Holmes and what's not to like about that?

How about Egypt II: The Heliopolis Prophecy?
Egypt I is pretty bad, don't try it. But II is a pretty good murder/political mystery.
Another good one by the same designers is the Sacred Amulet/Aztec.
