Gerry, I do like Victorian Mysteries, so will have to give them a try. I checked my library who does not have her books as e-books yet frown12

Currently reading a good futuristic tale by Marcus Sakey - Brilliance, a step away from his usual (good) regular thrillers. As a fan of Lee Child's work I also recently quite enjoyed Diane Capri's venture into the hunt for Jack Reacher.

Glad to see some reference to Thomas Harris: I still see him as the absolute master of the genre when it comes to the psychological thriller, and Hannibal Lecter is a wonderful creation. The recent TV series of Hannibal was really creepy (and bloodthirsty). wave12

Sorta, that was a good book.

Lex, will have to check into Brillance.

Finished book 1 (Dragon Keeper)of the Rain Wild Chronicles last night and bought book 2, Dragon Haven, way too late last night which then meant I stayed up way too late reading. Our library, per normal, has books 1, 3, and 4....but not book 2. I'd love to know who decides which books to buy and what their standards are.

I am surprised that none of you have mentioned Patrick Rothfus's "The Name Of the Wind" or "The Wise Man's Fear". Two books of a fantasy trilogy (the third book due out in 2014) that is by far, far the best that I have read in many a year. Also, James S. A. Corey's "Leviathan Wakes", the best sci-fi space opera in many a year, and also the first book of a trilogy. Google them to find out more. And may I make a baldfaced plug for my blogs, www.endofshiftreport.blogspot.com and www.carrstale.blogspot.com ?

Orfyn, I love love love "The Name of the Wind" and "The Wise Man's Fear" and am impatiently waiting for the next installment.

I have not read "Leviathan Wakes" though I have seen the title.

I just finished "The Lies of Locke Lamora" and am very impressed with it. Book 2 is up next for me. Off to read your blogs now wave

looney,

I loved the Rothfuss books too and Locke Lamora was great although I thought book two Red Skies Under Red Seas was not as enjoyable as book one but it did not stop me from buying book three The Rebublic of Thieves.

Right now I am doing a re-read of Brent Weeks Night Angel trilogy.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Space, I've read books 1&2 in the Night Angel, just need to read book 3. But there are lots of books in this Gent. series. Will have to see if I keep enjoying them. wave

looney,

Even though I did not like book two in the Gentleman [blip] series the first book, Locke Lamora, was so good that I did purchase the third book of the series.

Another series that I really liked was the Second Sons trilogy by Jennifer Fallon. Book one is The Lion of Senet and I loved how the hero used brains instead of magic to solve his problems.

Another series that I recommend is Michael J. Sullivan's Riyria books. Start with Theft of Swords which is book one of the series.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Space, I haven't heard of either of those 2 series. I will have to make a note of those 2 and also will mention them to my sons and see if they have heard of them. They are big SciFi/Fantasy fans.

Off to read book 2.

Thanks to Looney and Space and others for many additions to my reading list. To me, the adventure games have always been another form of what I get from reading, brain food.Happy reading and gaming!

I'm reading NOS4ATU by Joe Hill. He is Stephen King's son and his books have just gotten better and better. It's a wonderfully creepy ride in a vintage 1938 Rolls Royce Wraith. Lucien21 over at Mystery Manor always has some of the best book recommendations in the Book Discussion forum.

The Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gaarder.
Probably for teenagers, but it is very good even for adults.

Caroline.

I've been reading a new free book on the Kindle Fire about every two days from Amazon.

Just finished Dark Stars No Light ( 4 short(?) stories ) and Doctor Sleep both by Stephen King. Couldn't put them down smile Doctor Sleep is a follow up to The Shining.

Thanks to SQ, I read the Second Son's trilogy. I liked it so much, I have sought out other books by the same author.
Orfyn, we have similar tastes. I have read all of James Corey's books as well as his other series written as Daniel Abraham. If you are on Goodreads, look me up (username: elvet)
I am currently reading Dance of Blades by David Dalglish. It is a different spin on the hooded assassin genre. There are multiple POV characters and overlapping plots, as well as political manipulations reminiscent of GoT.

Aren't those free and $.99 books from Amazon the greatest, GBC! I have gotten some that were absolutely great along with some that weren't. But what a great way to keep your Kindle book account happy. I subscribe to a daily email from BookBub that sends a compilation of free and $.99 books from Amazon for the Kindle. It's a great way to find new authors. If I like a book enough, then I'm always glad to support the author by purchasing another book for full price.

Colpet, I just started a new trilogy by Gary Gibson, first volume "Stealing Light", a little slow to start but by chapter four I am hooked. Has a similar flavor to Corey's books.
Which brings to mind William Gibson, love all of his books, but especially "Neuromancer" and "Pattern Recognition".

I've got Stealing Light on my to read shelf. Will look into William Gibson.
