I have to ask myself this question.... Why? time after time after our babies die we subject ourselves to getting another animal to have to put down our animals again ,and again. My sister had to put down her beloved, Tilly, today after 10 years.. She is so upset out of her mind...Her hubby had to take her to the hospital... :( They said she has a stress management problem....She can't deal with heartache I guess...All I know she is out of it....I know she LOVED ,Tilly....Very Much.... My heart aches for her, as I went through the same thing with , Ralphy.... <Sigh>

I think most of us here have been through loss of a beloved pet or person in one form or another. It is a part of life, A very sad one, but it is inevitable. We can shield our heart and never allow anyone or any animal close to us and never know true joy or we can open our hearts and take a chance. I prefer to love openly and allow myself to be loved in return. There is no greater feeling.
Sorry for your sisters loss and hope that she can remember the good times.

As Ana says, most of us have lost loved ones, whether they are people or pets. I've buried two husbands and numerous pets. But I wouldn't trade the love and happiness they brought to my life for anything. I didn't hesitate to get married again or take in more pets as they were dumped off and came to live with us. The rewards far outweigh the loss.

Dar it is never easy to suffer the loss of a pet companion. We love and care for them, and give them a home. In return they give us unconditional love and companionship. When they pass we grieve. In time we heal and when ready we offer another one a chance to have a loving home. That's life and it's never easy.

If you feel you have to ask yourself that question, then it's worth considering the lifespan of an animal. Parrots can live up to a hundred years. The odds aren't so great if you have a passion for gerbils or stick insects. As others have said, pets are worth the heartache. They leave behind them many precious memories.

I've had so many pets I have lost count. There were fish and turtles and cats (mostly cats) and a Toucanette (miniature Toucan) that we named 'ToucanKamen'. He was so cute. Sadly, pets go. I feel sadness each time, cry for them. I'm still grieving over my 'first' cat, George. He's the only one I buried in the yard under his favorite tree. Every time I walk by, I remember how great he was. Sad, but many years of joy with him and the others. I feel so bad for your sister. It's hard to lose a furry friend. Hopefully you will be there for her when she feels ready to get on with life. I wish nothing died, but then, I don't make the rules.
WARNING! This person is extremely blonde...please type SLOWLY.

Thank You all for the inspiring words of strength... I spent the day yesterday by her, and family...I made dinner for them all ,as my sister wasn't up to it. I did link her to this website, and told her to read the post from all of you. She is doing better, but understandable it will take time. Thank You, Again..
