I believe that the disk version requires an internet connection in order to activate the game. If the activation is through Steam, then I believe it would require that you have Steam installed as well. I don't know this for sure, though, so you might want to wait to hear from someone who is more knowledgeable.

It sounds like you might have to download Steam. I bought my version from the Sherlock Holmes website, but I still had to activate the game at Steam, using the product code that was emailed to me. There is a "games" tab at the very top of the Steam application with a dropdown list showing: "activate a product on Steam", which is what I did. I have several games from Steam so that was not a problem. I am not sure whether the Steam application will load every time you play the game or not. Good luck - I am enjoying my game play immensely!

All of Frogwares' games require Steam unless you are lucky enough to find an old disk copy of one.

It's a combination mouse and keyboard.
you use the WASD to get the direction and then mouse left key to do the action - in this case the walkies.

I've just about had it with Watson. He's right in my way when I have to go some place. I keep bumping into him a lot. I told him to go home and stay out of my way. I guess he won't listen to me because he's still in the way. Great game anyway.

There are many computer games that use the keyboard as well as the mouse.

Traditionally:

W = go forward
S = go backward
A = go to the left
D = go to the right
