Gemma,

Its been years since I've played this game. If it goes back into inventory, maybe you'll need it again later. smile wave

Re: Curse of the mummy - 05/21/08 04:40 AM

Gemma, like TLC, it's been a long time since I played this game, but I don't think you have to worry about the torch at all--it seems to me that after you lit it, you just go on with the game.
You will probably need that second torch too--there are certain things that need to be done and you can't finish them if you run out of light.

Btw, if you are ever looking for a walkthrough, the official name of this game is Sherlock Holmes: Mystery of the Mummy, and that's how it's listed in our walkthrough section...luck

Re: Curse of the mummy - 05/22/08 12:15 AM

Oh boy, Gemma, that's a difficult one--this game is old enough that I played it two computers ago, and my saves are looooong gone! blush

Let me check around on the internet and see if I can find any saves for you if no-one on the forums has one.

Edit:

Well, I didn't find a save, but the UHS Hints site has a diagram and some explicit directions for moving around the rotating room--those might help you. Check out here. And I assume you've checked to see if you can lighten your screen within the game? It's been so long that I don't remember if you can do that...luck

Re: Curse of the mummy - 05/22/08 04:23 PM

Gemma,

Find the save you need, download it and put it in the save folder. Under the list of saved games, it says to put the save here, C:\TMOTM\data\ luck wave

Re: Curse of the mummy - 05/22/08 04:26 PM

Some info is at the bottom of the page.

Select the saved game file you want from the list (which part of the game).
Download it to your computer.
You should then: have 2 files - Slot#.sav / Slot#.tga
Place them in the C:\TMOTM\data\

Re: Curse of the mummy - 05/23/08 01:51 PM

Gemma, I had all kinds of trouble with that game on my XP also. I read on a forum that uninstalling a specific hotfix made the game run normally.

The good news is that worked for me, but the bad news is that uninstalling the hotfix, while it was ok for many, turned my computer into a doorstop. It wouldn't even boot. I had to reload the OS ect so I wouldn't recommend it unless you are prepared to reload your computer.

Course, when I reloaded, I did not reinstall that particular hotfix and then game ran fine but had I known in advance what would happen, I'd have just played something else. luck

Re: Curse of the mummy - 05/23/08 02:38 PM

Gemma I don't have any saves for this game. I do remember that I used a WT to get past that rotating room. I'll be happy to look up the directions for you if you want to try, or google for a save.

The game would not run for me at all til I removed that hotfix, so you are not having the same problems I had. You might be able to finish it.

Re: Curse of the mummy - 05/23/08 04:41 PM

Gemma, here are a set of directions from UHS-Hints. They increase in specificity so I'll put each level under a different spoiler. I think this is how I got through the room.

Click to reveal..
I'm not moving where I seem to be indicating.

There's apparently something strange about this room.

It affects some of your movements -- almost "transporting" you to another location in the room at times.

Walk around the room and try to identify every unique point you can find.

From each point, identify each direction you can move and where you end up when you move in that direction. It may be helpful to sketch out a quick map.

You'll need to depend more on those facts (and your map), than on visual clues in the room. If you still need help, try the following, more specific hints:

Click to reveal..
If you do a bit of exploring, you'll find that you can interact with something in the room.

Four "somethings" to be exact.

Be sure that you've "visited" each of the four statues in the room.

However, that may be easier said than done, since there are not direct paths that allow you to walk across the room freely.

Experiment with moving in different directions until you have visited (and clicked on) each of the four large statues.

Listen for audible clues that something has happened.

Look around for a hidden object that might have been "released" by your exploration of the room.

Find the opened niche in the floor near where you entered the room, and take the Anubis statuette.

Click to reveal..
I cannot get to the door at the far side of the room.

The far door can only be accessed from one location in the room.

You will need to get to the center of the room.

It is easier said then done, since clicking on the center seems to take you all around the room.

Keep trying to move towards the center of the room.

If you pay close attention, you'll notice a pattern to your movement.

As long as you continue to aim for the center, you'll eventually get there. From the door where you entered, it should take you five moves to get into the center.

From here -- *DO NOT* aim towards the door you want to reach!

Instead, look back towards the wall with the door where you entered. Careful here -- there are two directions you can move.

Make sure you aim towards the spot between the two statues (not at the door).

Move forward one more time (toward the statues, and away from the door you are trying to reach).

You should now be directly in front of the door opposite from the entrance.

Click to reveal..
Aaargh! I still can't figure out this room!

Refer to the diagram to understand the references to the various letters and numbers mentioned in the following solution.
Diagram of Moving Room

Starting at the entry door, aim at the center of the room "E". You will not move to the center of the room, but will instead find yourself standing near wall "A".

From your location at wall "A", move toward the center "E". You will end up standing by wall "B".

From wall "B", move toward the center "E". You will end up standing by wall "C".

From "C", move toward "E". You will end up by "D".

From "D", move toward "E". This time, you will truly by in the center of the room, at "E".

From the center of the room, turn to face wall "A".

Move the cursor until it is pointing between statues numbered "1" and "2" in the diagram. Click on this point and you will find yourself standing in front of the "Target door".

And Click here for a Map from the same place

luck
