Problem with Chewy: Esc from F5

I'm not sure yet whether I'm encountering a bug or a simple gameplay issue, but I recall that I came up against this same problem years ago when I last attempted to complete this game.

I'm in Big City. I've done everything I can and all walkthroughs corroborate that I need to get the harbor. Getting access to the harbor seems to simply involve looking out of the hotel window, which I've done. So as far as I can tell I've dead-ended the game. Any suggestion on how to get access to the harbor? Or does anyone have a savegame that would offer me access?

There are a couple of saves HERE, but I'm not sure whereabouts in the game.

Perhaps someone has played the game recently and can remember details re. the harbour and will let us know.

Thanks. Yeah, that's one of the walkthroughs I looked at. I also tried searching around for savegames, but that's the only site that seems to have any and they only deal with the very early parts of the game. I've even tried watching the german-language youtube walkthrough to see if there was just a part of the screen I was missing. Very silly problem.

A-hah! Solved. A bit of irritating conditional programming. You have to pick up the captain's hat before the location arbitrarily becomes available. This sort of stuff usually drives me nuts, but I'm just happy to have it done.

It calls to mind the bit in Space Quest 6 that, for years, kept me from completing the game. I knew I had to have Manuel beam me down to Polysorbate, but I had no clue how to let the game know this. Years later and an accidental click solved this.
