Riven - 04/25/12 06:34 PM
Hope someone can remember playing this, 'cos I remember I had trouble last time, I am at Crater/Generator Island and have crawled along the tunnel enjoyed the view and gone through the double doors with a trap at the end, now I know (from the W/T) that there should be a switch on the right side, but the screen is very dark (as light as I can make it) and I cannot find the hotspot, anyone give me a clue such as how many clicks from the duble doors??

Let's wait for someone that has the game installed and can do the clicks for you.
It might be best to play with your computer's brightness and can play it yourself.
Also maybe wait until dark and the light change - that might help the shadows on your monitor.

monbron,
If you're looking for the handle to open the trap, it's at the end of the room where the trap is. There's a container of food pellets on the right of the stand and I don't remember if the handle is next to that container or on the opposite side of the stand.
If you're looking for the lever to turn off the fan above the stand, it's not in this room.

Thanks Jemma I am looking for the handle to turn off the power.

There is a different place with the lever for power.
You have to go down from the fan/ductwork, go back out to the double doors and close them from inside. This opens a walkway to the right just inside the double doors. Down this walkway about halfway is a lever on the RIGHT for turning off power.
Then go back to the duct and climb up and you can get past the fan
Cheers,

Re: Riven - 05/02/12 07:52 AM
I have a question about "hotspots" in Riven. Im trying to play it again and it seems like some hotspots display with a change in the cursor, but others dont show up as any change at all, forcing one to click randomly and hoping for the best. Am I correct?

Can't finish Riven, I am sure I have done everything I should according to the w/t's but when I click the button (lots of times) on the telescope nothing happens and yes I have knocked the leg out of the way and I have opened the lid and I have turned the handle???

Re: Riven - 05/07/12 02:03 AM
I found this nice little "final puzzle" summary. Take a read:
"Do not attempt this unless you have already trapped Gehn and freed Catherine!
First, turn on the power to the telescope by turning the steam valve in side 2
of the gate room. Next, use the code in Catherine's journal to open the hatch
beneath the telescope. [OUT-OF-RIVEN NOTE: This code is randomly generated for
each game file, so it cannot be given here.] The code shows which button to
push, NOT how many times you should push each button. For example, if the code
is 4 3 5 2 1, press the fourth button, then the third, then the fifth, etc.
Once the hatch is open, look on the base of the left support strut for a small
metal rod, and swing it away. Now, turn the handle next to the button (at the
end of the circular pipe surrounding the telescope) so it is pointing down,
then press the button, which will lower the telescope a few inches. Keep
pressing the button until the telescope breaks the glass."
Note the underlined statement above. I believe the gate room is the room that rotates. Remember the left side passage where there is a steam valve? If this is not set, then you won't hear that loud hissing noise that you may notice in the video posted above.
I hope this helps.
Dadguy :-)
PS: I noticed today that the link to Graham's walkthrough was dead. It seems his domain is no longer active.

Chief not sure what you mean how do I steam power it??

Re: Riven - 05/07/12 12:23 PM
monbron, if you read dadguy post just above and you remember the beginning of the game with the rotating room and the passage (down the stairs) that you access by passing under a fence, when you go at the end of the passage, you will see the steam valve with the icon of the telescope.
Good luck.
