Realmyst Masterpiece Edition-Can't change colors of Crystals in Rime

Hi Fellow Boomers,
I've played this game almost to the end. I'm trying to do the "Crystals" puzzle in the Rime Age. I am unable to change the colors of the crystals by "hovering" the mouse over each crystal. That worked fine in the original "REALMYST", but not in this version. Has anyone who has completed this puzzle in "Realmyst Masterpiece Edition" (from GOG) come across this problem?

To get the crystals to change color, have you tried holding down the mouse button for a few seconds rather than just a single click? I read online they change color after a few seconds of doing this.

I just did some "experimenting" and discovered the same solution as you have described, BUT, now that I have done all the colors I'm not getting the "RIVEN" view. I have a feeling that THIS version of the game might have a different configuration of crystals than those in the original REALMYST. Could this be possible? Your input is very much appreciated.

I just changed the colors of the last crystal, one by one, and got nowhere. Now I'm desperate. LOL I'm playing around with the configurations of all of the crystals now. Maybe I'll get lucky. Still "floundering" around.

Sanford I had the same problem when I played on my iMac computer. I could not get the crystals to change color. I think it is a glitch in the game too.

I just went back into the game and was able to change the colors on the crystals by holding the mouse down for a couple seconds as the post above said. But I still couldn't see Riven in the viewer. I rechecked the crystal order and discovered I had the 2nd crystal wrong. Once I changed it I was able to see the picture of Riven. Make sure you have all the crystal correct as well as the colors.

I'm going to start the puzzle from scratch and see what happens. Funny thing is that I had no problem with solving this puzzle when I played the original "Realmyst', and I did it quite a few times since. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
BTW, there is a very good Realmyst walkthrough from BigFish which has a very good image of the solved Crystal puzzle. The shapes and colors are very clear and I'm sure that I Made MINE the same using the Bigfish pic. I even printed out the pic and copied from the printed image.

Gerry, I just did the puzzle again and I KNOW that I have the correct crystal configurations and the correct colors for each (according to the original "REALMYST" Walkthrough". Pardon me for asking, but did you play REALMYST MASTERPIECE EDITION, or was it the original REALMYST? Right now I'm baffled as to why I can't get that Riven image in the viewer. I just get a lot of stars.

Sanford I know this is a silly question, but once you have everything correct did you did you press the red button to see the picture of Riven?

Yes I did, Gerry. The scene on the viewer shifts, but only to more stars. I just contacted CYAN SUPPORT by e-mail and told my whole sad story and also asked if there is a possible "glitch" and if there is a different configuration of the crystals in the Masterpiece Edition than in the original Realmyst. I am awaiting a reply from them. Thanks for your input.

The colors I'm using on the crystals, from left to right, are RED, GREEN, CYAN, YELLOW, and PURPLE. I've read that the LAST crystal may NOT be PURPLE, so I tried all colors on the last one, but to no avail. I have a print-out of the solution that is very clear, and that's the one I'm using. That solution is for the original REALMYST, of course.

At least I'm not the only one. LOL
BTW, the order of the color change of the crystals is: Purple, Red, Yellow, Green, Light Blue (Cyan), Dark Blue.
I just replayed the Rime Crystals Puzzle in the original REALMYST and I solved the puzzle (again) without a problem.

Sanford the crystal color order in my RealMyst game is: Red, Green, Light Blue, Yellow, and Purple. Is that the order you tried? Did you use the light blue? I do hope you get an answer from Cyan. I have the RealMyst original game not the Masterpiece Edition.

Maybe the crystals in your version of the game are in a different order from the original?

I just replayed the Rime Crystals puzzle in the original REALMYST just to make sure I was doing it correcly, and had no problem solving the puzzle to get the "Riven" view. The same configuration does NOT work in Realmyst Masterpiece Edition.
Chief has said the same thing, so I'm waiting to hear from Cyan Support concerning this. While playing the new version, I found one other thing that was different between the two versions.

Oh boy, I just found a You Tube Video walkthrough of the REALMYST MASTERPIECE EDITION of the RIME AGE. It shows that the crystals puzzle is solved by doing the same thing as in the original REALMYST game.. The RIVEN image seems to be slightly different than in the original REALMYST, and there is no "static" in this view.
Well, fellow Boomers, I'm going to try the puzzle again-and again if I have to.

YAY! FINALLY! I did it.
Chief, this is the solution:
From scratch,to get the correct crystals, from left to right: Click 4x on the 1st pan, click 8x on the 2nd, click 6x on the 3rd, click 1x on the 4th, and click 7x on the 5th.
To get the correct colors,from left to right, click and hold 5x, 1x, 2x, 0x, and lastly 3x.---------- VOILA-a clear RIVEN image after you push the red button.
Now I can go on to play my next game. (I have so many unfinished games to play.)

Yes, Gerry, and the "Riven" image was sharp and static free. I debated a long time as to whether or not to buy this new Myst version. After all, what could look better than REALMYST? I was SO curious that I finally "bit the bullet" and purchased Realmyst Masterpiece, and I'm glad now that I did. The graphics are super-good. I still have a WIN XP computer, but I was able to play this game with the highest graphics selection in the Settings menu without any problem whatsover and I used the "Free-Roaming" setting. Happy Gaming!
