Mysterious Journey 2 - 06/15/15 04:52 PM

Having a bit of problem in MJ 2.

I have solved the fiendish foggy maze and the electrical circuit door puzzle and have taken the airship in an attempt to ask the Oracle some questions.
So I have flown to Touchstone (I think) by pressing the second button down on the LHS, and am attempting to get through the portal to continue my quest. But the portal remains implacably closed and I cannot get through.

Is there something that I should have done beforehand in preparation for the portal? Or am I in entirely the wrong place or the wrong track?

Petert,

Is the "second button down" - the same as; Walk out to the airship and press the second top left button

Yes, I think so. There are seven buttons - three down on the LHS and three on the RHS and one at the bottom - and I am pressing the second one down on the LHS. There is a triangle next to the button, vertex to the right pointing sort of East.

It's been a while - so bear with me.

Have you been at the Touchstone before?

Are you anywhere close to the Halcyon Woods; so that you can walk to the Touchstone - council chamber?

I think I have been to Touchstone before, but it has been a few months since I was playing the game regularly.

Before I got to the foggy puzzle, I had come across a force field but having solved a bridge puzzle I was able to pass through it.

As I said, I used the airship to come to Touchstone (?), where I came out on a platform, went through a door, then came into a wooded area and came down a pathway to face a portal. This one had a yellowish shimmering barrier which I cannot get through.
When I carry on along the pathway I climb a few steps up to another door that I cannot get through either.

You might be at touchstone now.
If so, the council chamber is at the path (at left) before a companion.
To the right of the companion are steps that has a force field and a puzzle.
A force field should be behind you and that one is closed.

Now you turn on that council chamber path left of the companion. Enter through the door and see another force field. This one brings you to the council.

I recognise the description you give of Touchstone/Halcyon woods.

As I come down the path, with the hovering companion on my left, there is on the right a force field in front of some steps.

When I continue down the path, I go up some steps to a door, which seems to have a pattern on it similar to the electrical circuit puzzle recently solved, but I do not seem to be able to get through the door. The game will not allow me to do anything to open the door.

I tried it again a few minutes ago, but no success.
So I cannot get through the door and I cannot get through the force field.

This particular section of the game cannot be counted as one of my conspicuous successes.

Try this:
- face the companion on the left and the steps on the right.
- behind you should be a force field.
- do not go forward.
- turn left and see a path. Take that path to see a door. That should be the council building

Finally, we have lift-off.

I went back to the door (electrical circuit) puzzle and started again from there. This time, I was able to go through the portal before going to halcyon woods, and everything then went as specified in your W/T - which you probably wrote about 10 or more years ago. The Companion arranged for the Oracle to lower the force field so I was able to climb up the steps for the next phase.

Thank you for all your patience.
