Sea of Darkness - 07/25/15 05:49 PM

I loved your review - it's great! I do have one question tho - I too am baffled by that food puzzle - has anyone who solves this type of puzzle or have solved this one tried to explain just how it works? If I am not required to do this one in order to gain another clue of this mystery then I will probably skip it as it frustrates me HUGELY! I would however love to be able to see just how it does work if anyone wishes to send me an explanation in 'secret' I would appreciate it. I come here now only occasionally but try to notice if that 'letter' on top of this page is flashing telling me I have received a message. Thanks

Hi Betty Lou,

I moved your post over to Adventure Game Hints.

Apart from telling you to refer to the walkthrough, I don't have any additional advice about solving the food puzzle (other than to say that you can skip orders until you find one that is easier to fill, which is useful to know).

The good news is that this puzzle is optional and is there as one way to earn money in the game. I earned money in the game by taking the Icelandic vocabulary quizzes and never did the food puzzle.

I actually enjoyed this puzzle. It is a modification of an older puzzle.

- There are sets of icons at top left that are to be placed at bottom empty puzzle frames. In this case they are the "orders".
- The icons-ingredients for filling in the order are at top center.

- The filled order have to be in the same sequence as that shown at top left.
----The filled orders can be in a row - crossing several colors. (like the enclosed green icons).
----The filled orders can be in square of similar colors. (like the enclosed red icons).
----The filled orders in a square or row can have an empty space between icons-ingredients.

- An ingredient used to fill an order can be used to fill another order as long as it is a row and a square; a row within a longer row or within the same square. (like the blue filled order that is within the pink order (row) at the bottom puzzle.

- A filled order is grayed out on the order list at top left.

Thanks, MaG. I did really well with the Bento box puzzles in Shadow at the Water's Edge and needed no help with those puzzles at all, but for some reason this puzzle didn't "click" with me. I'll take a closer look at this when I replay the game. wave

Re: Sea of Darkness - 07/26/15 06:22 AM

I have hit what I cannot even call a 'snag' - the one thing I missed and did not notice until now (in Labyrinth) was that Nancy did not sleep but in that one it all took place in 1 day. In this one she now needs to sleep so it can become morning and the tide is in not out. How do I get to my room? When I go upstairs to 'lodging' it turns me around and I find myself still downstairs by the pub entrance. What gives? Help me if you can and have a good night,

That is what is supposed to happen.
There is no scene fade.
The only indication of "change" is the low/high tide sign.

Betty Lou, much like what Lady Linda said, that should happen. Personally it reminds me of when Nancy has to sleep in Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake, just a little more subtle, if you remember in that game you headed up and if you forgot which timing you set it for the indicator was the lighting (dark for night, light for day).

I just thought that might help explain s bit, so worry not, you're doing it right

thanks LL and M, sorry not to have gotten back here to 'edit' my comments, but did discover that changing sign after a nudge from one of the videos I viewed. I must not be as observant as I think (or would like to think) I am. Have finished the game with very little help from those videos only when I did not understand the rules of a puzzle and have had a glorious time - as usual - playing with Nancy. Looking forward to next one (soon I hope).

Great to hear, Betty Lou. Hopefully we will be seeing a new Nancy Drew game this October. Happy gaming. smile
