I really don't know. If the note isn't showing up for you, it may be because there are things that you still have yet to do before the note materializes. I would just keep playing the game - the note will show up when it's supposed to.

Also, if I remember correctly, you don't find the note on Ollie's workbench but rather on the bench that is in the room before you leave the lodge.
