post mortem - 09/23/19 02:18 AM

I have played this game before but lost my walkthrough , going to play it now what would be the best walk through to use? I will have to print out a new one .

Re: post mortem - 09/23/19 02:21 AM

There's 3 of them here on GameBoomers. When there is a choice like that I always go for MaG's, however, you may like the layout of one of the others better. Read a little from each of them and see which one seems easier for you to use.

Re: post mortem - 09/23/19 04:23 PM

thanks I will try that . using MaG 's talked to barman got bottle of red , now do i have to use the phone left of desk ? any way I saved at the police station, do i need to go back to the hotel ?

Re: post mortem - 09/25/19 04:28 PM

any thoughts on this ? I think that I missed some thing -like going to room 505 and 506 -Mrs Loiseau .. how do i get up there ?

Re: post mortem - 09/25/19 04:32 PM

It sounds like you may have missed a step or steps. Since I don't know exactly what you have and have not done, I recommend going over the written walkthrough very carefully.

There is also a complete video walkthrough of the game that starts here.

Re: post mortem - 09/25/19 04:47 PM

thanks, my last save is at the police station , so it looks like I need to go back to the hotel ? or go to the Nantis cafe. then on to the hotel talk to Petit.. ???
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 09/25/19 05:08 PM

I would try all those things and see if there is anything at those places to do.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 09/25/19 05:54 PM

It's been a while since I played this but I think in this one, you have to just keep going back to places to see if anything might have changed like maybe conversations. It may be hard to direct you because there are some things that can be done in different order.
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 09/25/19 06:03 PM

I played the game many years ago and that's pretty much what I remember too, oldbroad, although my recollections are quite vague.

thanks for the info. yikes a lot of back and forth. saved at just befor inspector aristide lebrun details.

Re: post mortem - 09/26/19 04:12 PM

thanks - I have got the bottle of red and gave it to Mr Beauvais the police sergeant.saved at Dr Kaufner's office. now do i go back to Nantis cafe ?
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 09/26/19 04:14 PM

As long as you are saving your game from time to time, it's all fine. Try going back to Nantis Cafe to see if there is anything new that you can do or say there. If not, go to other available locations and check those out as well.

great -fun game ! I just got the lock picking tools now what do I do use them on rood 507 or Hellouin's office.???
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 09/28/19 02:30 AM

I don't know without looking at the walkthrough. Why don't you try them out and see where you can get them to work for you? Investigate and experiment. sherlock
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 09/28/19 05:13 PM

thanks , now that I have a save at that spot , I can try room 507 if I don't like that I can go back to my save game and try Hellouin's office, now that is cool. doing that picture puzzle was kind of hard I had to try it half dozen times..off and running .

Re: post mortem - 09/30/19 11:20 PM

YIKES at room 507 can't get in. now how do i get in Hellouin's office ?from here ?
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 09/30/19 11:41 PM

There must be some other thing or things you need to do before you can get into room 507. You need to check the walkthrough to see what you might have missed - there's no way for me to know what that might have been as I don't know what you have done already.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 09/30/19 11:51 PM

thanks for getting back to me - room 507 need to get in i have a save there. it said that Hellouin's office is at the end of the hall . i have a save there . so i think i need to pick a lock to get in ether one right ?
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/01/19 12:03 AM

Go ahead and try using your lockpick on those rooms to see if it works.

If you save at regular intervals, it leaves you free to experiment. If something doesn't work out, you can always restore your game from a previous save if need be.

Re: post mortem - 10/01/19 02:59 PM

Hi , I tried to use the picks on the door lock -that is hard , still haven't got in it is hard to see , do i just move the pick once - like up or down or dose it matter just so it is in the right spot and then go to the next pick ?
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/01/19 03:04 PM

The walkthrough has a lot to say about this (it also has a picture of the door lock/pick that you might want to take a look at:

Quote
The lock picking tools are one time use only and will disappear in the inventory after being used. The choice is whether to use it on room 507 or Hellouin's office.

Hellouin's office - Go to the end of the hall and look at lock-doorknob of last door.

Lock picking puzzle: There are 5 picks but the middle one is not used. The keyhole has 4 places to insert the picks. The picks can be moved up-down or left-right. The correct pick at correct place is seen when the door knob is clicked and the pick stays still. To know which pick is what, place the hand icon on lock pick's bright brown pack - the pick in the lock will light up at its original position in the pack.

Place 4 picks except the middle one in the keyhole. Click door knob. Click each shaky pick to move them (up down, left, right) and then click the door knob. If the pick shakes wildly, it is in the wrong place, if the pick shakes slightly, it is in the right place but wrong position. If the click stays still, it is placed correctly.

Re: post mortem - 10/01/19 10:31 PM

I can't tell from looking at the walkthrough. You will need to go over that yourself unless someone who has played the game recently and remembers can fill you in on this.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/01/19 10:46 PM

Isn't room 507 in the hotel?
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/01/19 11:27 PM

thanks, well i just got in to room 507 saved . what do i need to do in room 507 ??I'm mixed up some ??? I peeked in at the whits appartment. please let me know what to do now ...ok .
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/01/19 11:42 PM

Did you look at the walkthrough? It should tell you exactly what you need to do in Room 507.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/02/19 01:02 AM

thanks i did get into room 507 and i got the ring and went to the bottom of the bed and got glass with purple powder. i guess I missed the drawer by the bed with the key to the strongbox.i guess then go to Easton apartment , what number is that ?
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/02/19 01:10 AM

I am not seeing where the walkthrough mentions a number for the Eaton apartment.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/02/19 01:35 AM

well i went in to room 507 got the ring and the glass with purple power , but i have a problem with finding the drawer by the bed to get the key to the strongbox. then it said to go up to the eaton's apartment,,what # would that be ?? back to getting the key ...???what do i need to do to get to the drawer ?
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/02/19 01:58 AM

If I am reading the walkthrough correctly, the drawer you want is a bottom drawer of the desk.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/02/19 02:46 PM

thanks I will try and find it . is it in the same room # 507 right ? i got the ring and the glass with purple powder , i went in to the bath room - black dye on sink, so i look at the bed and it has blood all over it as i go to it i can't open the drawer -can't get close to it to open..this is odd huh ? what do i do now ???
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/02/19 03:22 PM

I think I gave you the wrong information before and was not at the right spot in the walkthrough.

Where I believe you are now, it says this:

Quote
Turn right and look close at fireplace. Take the ring of Fay. Go to bottom of bed and take slivers of glass with purple powder. Look close at drawer by the bed and take the key to strongbox.

Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/02/19 03:37 PM

thanks , so that is in room # 507 right ? same room with the fire place ?
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/02/19 04:00 PM

The walkthrough says it's Room 507.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/02/19 05:26 PM

thanks . in room 507 is the drawer on the right or left of the bed ?
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/02/19 05:37 PM

The walkthrough just says the drawer by the bed and not whether it is to the right or the left.
Posted By: Draclvr

Re: post mortem - 10/02/19 06:59 PM

Why don't you try them both?
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/02/19 09:33 PM

thanks, but that is the problem , can't get to ether one , now that is in room 507 I just want to make sure every thing is right . I just checked both 505 & 507 both have fire places . I don't have a the pencil . now in room 507 is where i got the ring and the stuff with the purple power. now how do i get the key...and i went in to the bathroom and there is black dye on sink ...is this the room that i need to be in to get that key ???
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/02/19 11:13 PM

Here is another excerpt from the walkthrough:

Quote
Hotel Orphee - Take the pencil from the reception desk. Talk to Petit and to Nicholas, the barman for more info. They both talk about Malet. Go up. Talk to Mrs. Loiseau about everything and learn about the BSORC and K. She might give you a magic talisman if you didn't get the pencil.

Room 505 - Go to locked door, place newspaper under the door and use the pencil (or a magic talisman given by Mrs. Loiseau) on the keyhole. Use the key on keyhole and get a psychic vision!

Room 507 - Turn right and look close at fireplace. Take the ring of Fay. Go to bottom of bed and take slivers of glass with purple powder. Look close at drawer by the bed and take the key to strongbox. Go to the bathroom and see black dye on sink. (Isn't her hair red?)
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/03/19 12:14 AM

yikes i go in room 507 and the bed is covered in blood and so is the drawer next to it ,can't get close to any of them now what do i do ??
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/03/19 12:24 AM

You need to go back over the walkthrough and see what you might have missed. Apparently there are more things to do before this.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/03/19 01:05 AM

I cannot remember this but am thinking you are looking at the wrong drawer in the wrong room.

In the other room see if there is someplace else you can stand (like by the hallway door) and get to the nightstand on the left of the bed. (That's assuming there is one and I am not remembering too wrong lol).

Anyway, my point is that maybe you are not standing in the right place to get to where you need to go. Look around and see if you missed any hot spots to move to.

I hope that this information does not add more confusion.
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/03/19 01:12 AM

That makes sense to me, oldbroad. I thought deleterman's difficulties might have something to do with what you are describing. Thanks for trying to help.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/03/19 01:47 AM

thanks guys for the help. do you think that i should go to the map and go to all the places and check them out ?
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/03/19 01:52 AM

That is never a bad idea but that won't help you with the drawer.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/03/19 01:57 AM

about that drawer ? what room should I be in ? i can get in to 505 or 507 or is there another one ? and thank you so much for helping me on this my head is spinning over this.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/03/19 02:27 AM

Like I said, I don't really remember but I believe you want to be in the room that is NOT where the couple was murdered. Try the room next to it. I think that's 507? Just look around to see if you may have missed a hot spot to move to. Maybe you are just standing in the wrong place or at a wrong angle to get to the drawer. I MAY BE WRONG!

Re: post mortem - 10/03/19 02:29 AM

And if all else fails, there's always the video walkthrough.

thanks I think a video walkthrough would be great . thanks for that ideal .....cool.
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/03/19 03:02 AM

There's more than one on YouTube and you will need to find where you are in the game.

Here's a part one of two to get you started.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/03/19 03:35 PM

thanks for that info - the key is not in the drawer -it is on top of the drawer. in room 507. still can't get it.

Re: post mortem - 10/03/19 05:54 PM

What does the walkthrough say?
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/03/19 10:53 PM

that is the problem I don't have my old walk through , I will have to look for it . but I think that i'm going down the 2 paths at the same time like back and forth. because I saved at both doors with the lock picks and then I went both ways from there . Yikes - this is getting crazy.

a ha just found my old walk through ! it was right under my nose .

thanks I sure hope so... now how to finger out how far back to go and where to start from a save game that I have . I don't want to start over again from the start. I will have to get my brain in gear . any thoughts on where I should start from ???/

Re: post mortem - 10/04/19 06:50 PM

What does the walkthrough say? Remember, we aren't playing the game, so all we can do it use a walkthrough ourselves. Oldbroad has played it, so maybe she will remember.

Did your antivirus eat the .exe

Re: post mortem - 10/04/19 08:09 PM

Yes. I have it showing on my games list that Norton removed the file on 12/01/17. I had already replayed the game so I didn't really care I guess. I don't know if I can get it back now or not.

WOW, thanks for responding. I went to youtube to watch but i don't know what part to watch.. my head is spinning . i just might give up on the game ... i just can't get any save game to move on with this.
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/05/19 01:10 AM

Why don't you watch the YouTube video from the beginning until you get to the part where you are now? It would also help you remember what you have already done in the game.

You could also try looking at the UHS hints for the game here.

There's a page of hints about Hellouin's office here.

thanks , i will try that and see what goes on .

Re: post mortem - 10/05/19 05:09 PM

thanks - I went to uhs hints no help there . is Hellouin's office # 509 ? I will have to use those picks to open the door. is this right ? just want to make sure every thing is in the right order.
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/05/19 05:25 PM

I am reading that this game has a map and that Hellouin's office should be displayed on it - don't you have the map?
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/05/19 10:58 PM

thanks = I will check and see , I think i have the map but I don't remember seeing this name on it. I went back to my last save and checked the map no Hellouin ' s name on the map.....now what ?
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/05/19 11:54 PM

You say you have the lockpicking tools but that Hellouin is not on the map.

It seems like you must be somewhere around here in the walkthrough, although I cannot be sure:

Quote
When done, talk to show the painting to Hulot and he will give Gus lock picking tools.

Police station: Talk to Beauvais about everything and then show suspect face. It is Jacques Hellouin. Enter first door on left and talk to Inspector Lebrun. Tell him about the mysterious visitor, trying to help and ask about portrait of known criminal. Hellouin is a PI, ex cop, lives in 11th district and is in big trouble. Malet was killed last night.

The lock picking tools are one time use only and will disappear in the inventory after being used. The choice is whether to use it on room 507 or Hellouin's office.

Hellouin's office - Go to the end of the hall and look at lock-doorknob of last door.

Bear in mind that unless I know where you are in the game and what you have done/haven't done, and if the above does not help, you are just going to have to read through a walkthrough and follow it step by step.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/06/19 12:24 AM

well i went back to room 507 with lock picking tools ,will have to use these to get in. that is where I am now ,saved game here .

Re: post mortem - 10/06/19 04:54 PM

well in to room 507 where is the desk ? I don't see it . need to open the top drawer and get document. this is getting odd. please let me know if I'm on the right track. thanks. send help soon. head is spinning .
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/06/19 05:11 PM

The desk is in Hellouin's office according to the walkthrough, which is not Room 507, so it sounds like you are in the wrong room if you are looking for the desk.

In my post above, I showed you the following from the walkthrough:

Quote
The lock picking tools are one time use only and will disappear in the inventory after being used. The choice is whether to use it on room 507 or Hellouin's office.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/06/19 09:53 PM

thanks , well if the desk is in Hellouin's office how do i get there ? I'm at the hall way in front of 507, what do i do now , and i looked at the map and he is not there . in my walk through it sail that his office is at the end of the hall and look at the last door , is that on the right or left of the hall ? i went there but go nothing .
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/06/19 10:26 PM

Did you try to walk outside of the hotel to see if it shows up on your map? His office is not in the hotel.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/06/19 11:11 PM

yes i went back to the map , he is not on the map....so how do i get to his office ? all this is very odd.thanks for tour help on this , is it me or is it the walk through . I think that there only 10 save spots is that right ? the only other thing is for me to start new game what do you think ?

Reading this part of the walkthrough over, it sounds to me like Helouin's office is in the police station - at the end of the hall.

Why don't you check that out and see?
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/07/19 12:06 AM

yes I think your right ,heloun's office is in the police station, but when i go there and talk to beauvais all he said was you back again, and all i can say is by.
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/07/19 12:13 AM

Then you are missing something before this point and are not ready to go to Helouin's office yet.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/07/19 12:56 AM

Helouin's office would show up on the map as Helouin's office. It is not at the police station. I see it separately on the map in the video walkthrough that Marian linked to earlier at 1:50:59 into the video.

Re: post mortem - 10/07/19 01:19 AM

My mistake then! I must have misread the walkthrough. Sorry about that.

Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/07/19 01:52 AM

I haven't been looking at the walkthrough but have started getting confused. I believe Helouin gets arrested and will end up at the police station which might be where you were looking Marian.
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/07/19 02:16 AM

My biggest problem now is that I don't know exactly where deleterman is in the game in terms of what he has and hasn't done. It's almost impossible to help when in that situation.
Posted By: Draclvr

Re: post mortem - 10/07/19 02:57 AM

I've tried to read the walkthrough and see if I can figure it out, but if there are things he hasn't done, it's just impossible to provide any help since I don't know what they are! Since we're not playing the game, deleterman, we are kind of stuck too!
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/07/19 03:42 PM

stuck huh , what's this about Helouin got arrested ? I thought his office was at the police office ? I'm getting mixed up about where to go and do YIKES ! this is getting crazy.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/07/19 05:16 PM

So, you haven't spoken to Helouin at all yet? The only thing I can suggest is to go back around to everyplace and everybody and see if you missed anything or have more conversations to have that might trigger something.

Or, at the police station, did you show the picture to the desk guy? Try not talking to him and see if there is a place you can enter to go behind the counter into the back and talk to Inspector Lebrun.

I'm not sure what you've done or haven't done. Have you tried going home to see if anything happens there?
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/07/19 11:51 PM

not spoken to helouin at all, yes i tried going back to all the other places nothing changed, can't show anything to the guy at the police station. there is no way i can get back behind the counter to talk to lebrun. but i think at one point i did talk to him. but i don't have that save game ... so now lost . BTW how many save game spots is there ?
Posted By: Draclvr

Re: post mortem - 10/08/19 12:35 AM

Would you be adverse to starting a new game and this time following the walkthrough, word for word? I don't know what else to suggest as none of us are playing the game! It's obvious you've missed doing something.

It just doesn't sound like you are having any fun this way! And gaming is supposed to be fun!
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/08/19 01:17 AM

I think the problems really began when deleterman went back to a much earlier save and could not remember exactly what had been done/had not been done at that point. That can potentially be confusing.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/08/19 01:37 AM

I haven't seen anyplace that says how many save slots there are.

Re: post mortem - 10/08/19 02:05 AM

That would make me confused too!

Re: post mortem - 10/08/19 04:30 PM

well I restarted the game , have a save at the Alambic Bistro . just after i did a drawing of the suspect. I think that so far every thing is good ,sticking with just 1 walk through , when I saved it I noted that all my old saves was there .
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/08/19 05:18 PM

Actually, sticking with one walkthrouh is probably a good idea with this game because you can do things in different order AND you can play your character a little differently also (at least at the hotel). I don't think it changes much of anything but may be confusing depending on the walkthrough and its writer/player.

Good Luck! I hope you are able to get through the game this time!

Re: post mortem - 10/08/19 05:48 PM

Yes, I agree, oldbroad - better to stick to one walkthrough with this one for the reasons you mentioned.

thanks. now at Hellouin's office , at the door it is locked , i have the picks but can't use them what gives ?please let me know ok.

Re: post mortem - 10/08/19 06:32 PM

Which walkthrough are you using? That might help us to help you.

So, did you talk to Beauvais at the police station then and showed him the picture and then talked to Inspector Lebrun? I'm assuming so since you are able to get to Hellouin's office. If so, make sure you are at the right door (end of hallway) last door.

If you've done this then I believe the lock picks should work.

yes i did talk to beauvais at the police station . i will check again , what about 507 ?

And please, which walkthrough are you using? As oldbroad says, that will help a lot.

It should be a whole new area on your map.

sorry but i did get there by using the map, in the eaton's apartment I got every thing I could , the walk through said to go to hotel orphee and talk to Isidore Petit, but he will not talk to me !! I saved there . what do I do now ??? what is the PI dialogue ??and how do i get that ?
Posted By: Draclvr

Re: post mortem - 10/09/19 06:28 PM

We still need to know which walkthrough you're using so we can follow along with you.

Re: post mortem - 10/09/19 08:03 PM

thanks for getting back to me.= the walk through is by MaGtRo , - november 2002 . hope this helps, so far its been great .up to the last part . where it said " path 2 - as journalist or PI . and Petit at the reception desk will not talk to me .....he said get out of here.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/09/19 08:30 PM

See on the walkthrough where it says this: "Continue on the common path below Path 2 Walkthrough"? Skip that section and go down to the next section called "Common Path". It says to go to Hellouin's office. You must not be playing as a journalist or PI. You are probably playing as an insurance agent since you are following the walkthrough. The insurance agent is "Path 1".

Try it out. Let us know.

Re: post mortem - 10/09/19 11:45 PM

thanks for that info, so I go to the map and and click on Hellouin's office right ??? well i went to Dr.Kaufner's office , I saved just before going down through the halls...is this good so far ?
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/10/19 12:38 AM

Wherever you can go and do or find different information is fine but don't lose track of where you are in the walkthrough. Apparently you will have to go to Hellouin's office for something.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/10/19 12:52 AM

yes I went to hellouin's office and used the phone and sent a telegram to pinkerton office about Fay & Jerome Johnson went up to secret room and got flashlight. going to Dr. Kaufner's office , that is where i saved it. does that look ok ? I don't want to mess this up at this point...
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/10/19 12:54 AM

Yes, that's what the walkthrough says to do.
Good Luck!
Posted By: Draclvr

Re: post mortem - 10/10/19 01:07 AM

Oldbroad, you're the best! It helps to have someone who's actually played the game! And I think that's key, deleterman… don't lose track of where you are in the walkthrough. Check things off with a pencil if you need to!
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/10/19 01:09 AM

It sure does help! I played the game in the 2000s, so now it's like I never played it at all. If I were to start it again now, it would probably seem pretty much new to me. I do remember bits and pieces (the setting, and one puzzle that really gave me trouble until I understood it better) but certainly not specifics.

thanks guys , I have played this a few times ,I think the first time was from a disk , about 2015 , some times i remember parts and some times I don't , it is like I never played it. it is a great and fun game, again thanks fore all your help.

Re: post mortem - 10/11/19 01:14 AM

well trying to get to the Dr Kaufner office , at the part where i get to his door ,I saved there ,but when I enter his office it takes me to the map ! with his name on it ,the walk through said when i get in to take the stones ,necklace , green journal, phonograph wax cylinder and so on...what do i need to do to get in ..
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/11/19 01:57 AM

All I can say is that you must not be at the right door if the map is coming up.

I would start that section over and follow the walkthrough very closely. If you miss a step, you won't get where you need to go. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful than that.

Make sure you pay attention to the directionals A-1, E-2, etcetera that are in the walkthrough. You can find those letter/numbers on the walls at intersections I believe.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/11/19 02:50 AM

thanks for getting back to me, yes your right . A-1 and so on, it is a little tricky at times, but i have a lot of saves a long the way glad i did that , I think this is going to take some time , with those levers to pull up and down , and then looking for E-2 and B-1 and so on.

Re: post mortem - 10/11/19 05:17 PM

thanks ,slow and easy, I have a save at the part where I entered the building , does that mean that every thing up to this part is ok ? from here it said turn right on side hall D-1 now backtracking on C-2 getting close to his office, please let me know ASAP , I don't want to start from the part "to get to the office"I hope that at backtracking " is good and I can continue from there ! thanks for all your help on this .
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/11/19 08:26 PM

I can only say it sounds right if you've followed everything accurately up to that point to where you are back to where you entered the building. After turning right on D-1 it says this "D-1, forward to end of hall and turn left (now backtracking) on C-2. " . If you went to the end of the hall and are now on C-2, I would say it is correct.

Re: post mortem - 10/12/19 03:28 AM

yikes I tried 4 times , hard to see like E -2 and B-1 going down the halls and looking up at the corners . i have to get out my magnifier glasses to see what they are . this is very hard ! lucky I have a save at the start, go forward , turn left, A-1, go forward through open grill door, turn left on side hall and pull up the lever, not very good instructions !! but I thank you for your help on this with out U I would not get very far...! I think that I will go to youtube and see if that will help.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/12/19 04:27 PM

well that didn't help. back to the game.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/12/19 05:25 PM

I tried looking at the youtube video and that is really confusing. I would think the step by step written instructions make sense though when you are in the game doing them as you read it. I can't help you with this other than to say again to start at the beginning when you enter the building and follow the step by step closely so you don't miss anything. Be careful not to accidentally turn anywhere.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/12/19 06:53 PM

thanks I felt the same way, every thing has to be in order. I start at to get to the office- right ? first thing I do is go forward, turn left , at A-1, is this right so far ?

Re: post mortem - 10/12/19 07:18 PM

Yes.Should be.

Re: post mortem - 10/12/19 09:13 PM

thanks, and I thank I should start a new game. what do U think ?
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/12/19 09:18 PM

Start a new game?? NO!! Why?? The puzzle isn't going to change any if you start the game over.

Do you have a save from before you entered inside the building? Maybe you can go back to that and try again just in case you moved inside the building before making your save before.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/12/19 09:25 PM

thanks , yes I think I do have a save before entering inside building. yes I did, now at the ( middle of the back wing ) saved there .
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/12/19 10:00 PM

So, you can see the door to the office behind a grilled door? If so, great!

"turn left and see the door to the office behind a grilled door (Middle of Back Wing)" Per the walkthrough.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/12/19 11:46 PM

thanks . that is where i saved it , just thinking if I go the wrong way at the corner ? but go back to the corner and go the right way will that be ok.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/13/19 04:21 AM

That should be fine as long as you are sure you are back to the place before you went the wrong way.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/13/19 04:47 PM

thanks, just want to make sure every thing is good , I have a save at the intersection at C-2,G-2 and D-2 , it said to turn right go down the hall what hall # would that be like D-2 ? please let me know as soon as U can . ok .
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/13/19 05:19 PM

Just follow the walkthrough step by step and make sure you keep your saved game at the intersection. That way, if you don't end up where you need to be, you can reload that saved game.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/13/19 05:47 PM

Like Marian said, just follow the walkthrough. If you don't end up where you need to be, reload that saved game and try a different hall. Since we are not playing the game we can't see which hall is which.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/13/19 11:21 PM

thanks, it said turn right go through open grill door turn right go in and pull the lever up. go forward through grilled door ' now back where I entered the building. turn right on the side hall-D-1 almost there . i should save there ?
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/13/19 11:26 PM

Save wherever you feel comfortable but don't save over the one before you entered into the building, just in case.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/14/19 12:48 AM

If you don't get it this time, try the information in the walkthrough by Crash here on Gameboomers. Maybe it is less confusing. But keep going where you are now and hopefully you will get it this time.

"WOW,now about post mortem common path , I have a save at D-1 [ now back tracking } on C-2 . every time i messed up i went to the greenish blue door and bang at the map...should i start from there an do it right this time ?"

You took D-1 to the end of the hall and turned left onto C-2?
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/14/19 11:09 PM

no not yet , is that is where i should start from ? on C-2 go forward turn left on on side hall and pull down on lever , go to the next side hallway on E-2 pull down lever . so far is that good ? then forward turn left at D-1 hallway to the end and enter the office right so far ? again thanks for all your help. i hope that i get it right this time . my head is spinning.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/15/19 12:07 AM

If you are back where you entered the building, I think you have to turn right and go down D-1 to the end of the hall and then turn left onto C-2.

Re: post mortem - 10/15/19 03:32 AM

thanks . is there any levers to pull up or down ? from D-1 to C-1 ?
Posted By: oldbroad

As far as I can tell, you go down C-2 until a side hall on your left where you will pull down a lever.

Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/15/19 05:09 PM

The walkthrough says:

Quote
Forward to next side hallway E-2 and pull down the lever.

Go forward, turn left at D-1 hallway to the end and enter the office.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/15/19 07:14 PM

that is just what I did , I pulled down on the lever , but I can't find D-1 to turn left and go to hie office ...that is the thing I can't find D-1 ????
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/15/19 07:16 PM

Maybe you could watch a YouTube video that shows where you go after pulling the last lever.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/15/19 07:33 PM

Marian, the YouTube video is more confusing I think.

deleterman, before you did this "well I went forward to side hallway E-2 pulled the lever down " there should have been another lever that you pulled down. Did you do that?

From the walkthrough:

on C-2.

Forward, turn left on side hall and pull down the lever.

Forward to next side hallway E-2 and pull down the lever.

Go forward, turn left at D-1 hallway to the end and enter the office.
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/15/19 07:35 PM

Then I recommend that deleterman does not use YouTube for this!
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/15/19 07:38 PM

I had looked at it in the video and I believe he did also. It's too hard to tell what you're looking at I think.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/15/19 09:49 PM

oldbroad , yes I did pull down the 2 levers . and that is where i saved it..but now can't find D-1 hallway , now what ???? i just hit a brick wall.
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/15/19 10:03 PM

From the walkthrough:

Quote
From the walkthrough:

on C-2.

Forward, turn left on side hall and pull down the lever.

Forward to next side hallway E-2 and pull down the lever.

Go forward, turn left at D-1 hallway to the end and enter the office.

As long as you have a saved game, you can keep trying to follow the walkthrough until you find the office. If whatever you do leads nowhere, then restore your saved game and try again.

thanks Marian, do U know any one else that had a problem at this point ?
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/15/19 10:27 PM

Are you in E-2? If so, you should just be able to go forward until a left turn at D-1.

If you still can't get it, maybe try the instructions in that other walkthrough I mentioned earlier but that will require you starting at the beginning again from just before entering the building.
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/16/19 12:06 AM

These are the instructions from Crash's walkthrough. Maybe they will be easier.

Q: How could Gus find a way to enter Dr. Kaufner's office?
A: Notice the far end door in front of Gus. That is Dr. Kaufner's office. Go through the left hallway. Pull up the level on one of the corner. This act will close door behind him and open the one in front. Continue down the hall and pull up another lever. Go through the open hallway. Notice the door behind the locked grate on the left. That is Dr. Kaufner's office. Continue down the hallway. Pull up another lever to close the door behind him. Continue through the open hallway and pull up another lever. This will open the hallway in front of Gus. Go down the hallway and notice that Gus back at the starting point. Turn right and enter the hallway. Gus will see Dr. Kaufner's office behind a locked grate in front of him. Turn left and pull down the lever. Go forward and pull down the next lever. This will open the grate in front of Dr. Kaufner's office. Go to the starting point and turn left. Enter his office.

Re: post mortem - 10/18/19 11:07 PM

Here it is from two more walkthroughs:

Walkthrough 1:

Quote
DR. KAUFNER'S OFFICE
Now you have to get in without anybody seeing you. Go forward and when
you get to the crossway turn left, and click forward 3 times. Turn left and
click forward once, turn left again and pull lever.
Turn around and exit to your left. Click forward once, turn right and
click forward 3 times turn right and click forward 1, turn left and pull
lever.
Turn around and exit the little room to your right. Click forward 6
times, turn right and click forward once, turn right and pull lever.
Exit to your right and click forward once. Turn right and click three
times, turn right and click forward once, turn left and click forward once,
turn right and pull lever.
Exit to your left. Click forward three times; turn right and forward
three times. Turn left and forward three times, turn left and forward once,
turn left and pull lever.
Exit to your left. Click forward once. Turn left and forward three
times, turn left and forward once, turn right and forward once, turn left and
pull lever.
Exit to your right. Click forward three times, turn left and click
forward five times.
If you did it right you are in front of the doctor's office door, click
on it and go in. He is not there.

Walkthrough #2:

Quote
This is actually pretty straightforward... nothing was put into the maze to throw you off.
Just do what makes the most sense as you make your way through the maze.
Pull a lever whenever you pass one. When you do this, you'll shut one gate but open another.
Then, just keep going (usually through the gate you just opened) until you get to another lever.
Note that you'll pass through the place where you started a couple of times, but the gates will be arranged differently, allowing you to leave the lobby in a different direction each time.
Following this method should lead you right into Kaufner's office.
Otherwise, here's the full path you need to take, starting from when you first enter the asylum.
N = North (the direction you're facing when you first enter the asylum)
S = South
E = East
W = West
P = Pull lever

N, W, W, W, S, P, N, W, N, N, N, E, S, P, N, E, E, E, E, E, E, S, P, N, E, S, S, S, W, S, P, N, W, W, W. Now, you should be back in the room you started from, but the doors will be configured differently.

N, N, N, W, W, W, S, P, N, W, S, S, S, E, S, P, N, E, E, E. You're back in the entry, but the doors are in yet another configuration. Now, just go N, N, N, N, N, N. This should put you in his office.

If you try either of these, I would cross off each step after you have completed it - that will make it easier to follow and keep track of where you are.

great now using walkthrough #2 now back where i started , saved it there , it said the doors will be configured differently. yikes now what do i do ? it said now go n,n,n,n,n 5 times and this should put me in this office. is this right ?

Re: post mortem - 10/20/19 12:29 AM

You'll have to try it to find out! As I've said before since we aren't playing the game, we can't tell you for sure! If you aren't in the right place, just go back the same way 5 times and try again.

This is just me, but I really dislike games like this and have gotten used to the games where you can move around freely.

That's what it sounds like with the levers. Just pull them when you see them I guess.
It shows 6 times to go north.

thanks - both walkthrough's said 5 times ,

no not yet , i have a save at the back entry , this is where the doors are in yet another configuration , this is where i go north 5 times. this is in front of his door to go in. right ?

Re: post mortem - 10/20/19 06:39 AM

It sounds like that is correct according to the walkthrough.

thanks. like start at Common Path - to get to the office ? Dr. Kaufner's office . I guess that make's sense. will start first thing tomorrow. again thank U for all your help . got a save at the entry , but the doors are in yet another configuration. it said to go n,n,n,n,n, this should put me at his office . now what way is north ? please send help soon.

Re: post mortem - 10/22/19 01:36 AM

I am on my way out the door for a few hours- hopefully someone else will be able to help you.

Meanwhile, here is a recap that might help you:

S = South
E = East
W = West
P = Pull lever

Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/22/19 01:40 AM

North should be straight ahead of you when you enter the building. The direction you were facing when you entered. If you turned then start again.

Re: post mortem - 10/23/19 03:47 PM

that's cool. this is a great game, the easy part is entering De Allepins house, that is where i'm at now - trying to get in to the bedroom ,well got in but when i went out to look at the 3 stained glass windows and look at the plaques I can't see the dates , any thoughts on what i need to do to see them ?
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/23/19 04:39 PM

Not sure, but you probably missed doing something previously, such as this:

Quote
Meeting Hall of the BSORC: Show the fake letter of introduction to the doorman (there will be 2 in inventory, use the right one). Enter the curtained door to the left. It is a chapel. Go to the 3 chairs and turn left. Enter to go to the library. Take the numismatic treatise from the table close to the door. Go to the other side and look close at the display cabinet. Take the 18th century copper coin at the center. Read abut the coin in the 'calling card' in inventory. Just like those found in the victim's mouth. Go to the 2 corner bookcase at far end of room. Look at the books and take the book on the Knight's Templar. Read abut the Templar's history in the 'calling card' in inventory. Note that the dates match the ones in the stained glass at Allepin's house.

Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/23/19 09:39 PM

Make sure you are following the same walkthrough at all times, because you can do things in a different order in this game and the walkthroughs may differ. I would use the save game that you mention and check out the walkthrough very carefully.

Again, we are not playing the game and so we can only look at the walkthrough when trying to help you. I have been following MaG's walkthrough because that is what you said you were using.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/23/19 09:45 PM

First of all, which walkthrough are you using now? I'm looking at MaG's under "study" in DeAllepin's house and it says that you have several things to do, one of which is to take the financial documents from the desk and to look at the calling card and you will see that the handwriting doesn't match. There is some other stuff also to do but if you have already done this, then go back to Bebe and ask her to make another fake letter. Leave her while she does it. When you go back, she'll give it to you and you will have 2 fake letters in inventory.
Posted By: Draclvr

Re: post mortem - 10/23/19 09:58 PM

deleterman, do you thing it would help if you physically checked off each step in a walkthrough with a pen or pencil as you followed it? It seems like you are missing things in the walkthroughs and then getting stuck.
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/23/19 11:13 PM

Yes, Drac, that's what I was suggesting he do earlier. Follow the walkthrough and cross things off, sentence by sentence.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/23/19 11:22 PM

thanks , your right , so i will go back to Allepin's house and check off every thing.

Re: post mortem - 10/24/19 12:57 AM

well I went back to the study- I read the (calling card ) walkthrough said that the handwriting don't match hellouin's letter ! that is Y the faked documents made by Babe didn't work with the doorman! I got the matches, got metal ring with letters on them looked at the planetary display, - went to Alambic Bistro , talked to her buy got nada. so no resone to go and come back and get a new fake document. now what ?
Posted By: Draclvr

Re: post mortem - 10/24/19 01:02 AM

What does the walkthrough say? That's the only thing we can go on since none of us are playing the game!
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/24/19 01:50 AM

Did you also take the financial documents off the desk in the study?

Did you try to show Bebe any of the documents? The financial papers and/or the calling card?

Has Hulot been found dead? That may make a difference.

Which walkthrough are you using now?
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/24/19 03:24 AM

thanks for getting back to me ,using the one by MaGtRo . yes got financial documents , well when i went to her he said that she should be carful , she didn't say a word, yes i have a calling card. but its the one that i got from soghia , who is Hulot ?
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/24/19 04:53 AM

So, did you only talk to Bebe or did you try to show her any of the items, the financial documents or the calling card? Can you combine items in inventory? I can't remember, but I don't see in the walkthrough anything about doing that. I'm not sure what to tell you if she won't make another letter. It sounds like you've done what you should do. Since you don't know who Hulot is, I'm going to assume that is not the problem.
Posted By: deleterman

Re: post mortem - 10/24/19 03:48 PM

thanks , all i know is hulot is dead. i looked at Crash walkthrough , very good walkthrough. now should i now at allepin's house do the planetary display puzzle ?
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/24/19 04:14 PM

If the game allows you to do it, then you can go ahead and do it. As I have said before, the game is not strictly linear and you don't have to do everything in the exact same order as the walkthrough - we just thought it might make it easier for you if you followed a walkthrough exactly.

Re: post mortem - 10/24/19 06:25 PM

I'm a little confused now myself as to where you are and what you have done. How did you get into the meeting hall? Did Bebe make you another fake letter or did you drug the door man?

What is the last thing Mrs. Loiseau talked to you about?

in de allepin's house , in alchmy room , saved there ,how do i get in to the crypt ?
Posted By: Marian

Re: post mortem - 10/25/19 01:39 AM

MaG's walkthrough says:

Quote
Alchemy Room - Go forward until the Alchemy room. Look around and note an alchemy table, 4 numbered panels on posts with drawings and a desk with a framed ring. Go to the next room.

Crypt - Go to next room. See the body of Gregory de Allepin and a stand in between the 2 slabs. Look close at Allepin and see a cutscene of the transmutation. So Allepin has transferred into a new body. Is this what happened the night Kaufner talked about meeting Allepin and Gracie-Adeline in the mansion? Take a picture using your camera to get a photograph of de Allepin's mortal remains. Look around and see all the tombs of past bodies Allepin has used over the centuries.

Posted By: oldbroad

Re: post mortem - 10/27/19 04:39 PM

Just follow the walkthrough closely. MaG explains each step of the way.

I'm not sure what you mean by "book puzzle".
Posted By: FlyingDutchman42

Re: post mortem - 10/27/19 04:58 PM

It consists of 3 concentric rings (I hope) that that you can turn
individually (with letters on them)
and there are 2 sets (of each 3 numbers) on them that can also
be turned.

I think (cause there are 7 letters, (from A to G)) on the picture beside the
rings) that the letters represent the planets that are in orbit around
the sun.
I am still trying though to get further.

What makes it difficult is, that there are 3 rings and
the letters on the picture to the left
are on more than 3 concentric lines. duh

completely true.

The letters are hard to read, and i have my screen brightness
on high.
I am afraid I am going to look at the walkthrough,
I suggest you do the same when you get there.

Re: post mortem - 10/27/19 08:30 PM

Yes, the walkthrough explains about the spoon sizes, the different colored powders, which bottles to use, and how much to use from each bottle. It looks confusing but just read each part as you're looking at it in the game and it will all make perfect sense.

Re: post mortem - 10/28/19 01:27 PM

The alchemy puzzle: when you solve it,
you will find a filled flask in your inventory,
and then look closely around.

I still suggest when you solve the alchemy puzzle
and go to the book puzzle, to look at the walkthrough
(I did) cause I could not see the letters clearly.

But: If you want to do the book puzzle without
the walkthrough:
The upper letter where the line goes through
is an "n".

I did the book puzzle (with walkthrough help)
but there was no result,
guessing I had forgotten something.
I was able to walk out of the crypt
and re-visit places where I might have missed/forgotten
something.

I did found out what had gone wrong
and returned to the crypt
and solving the book puzzle with succes this time.
That's where I am now.

Re: post mortem - 10/30/19 12:28 AM

It's hard to see in the screen shot in the walkthrough. It looks like 15 but I can't say for sure. Did you open the sketchbook in your inventory to see if the picture is complete? If it's not, then maybe you weren't in quite the right place/places on the fresco. Try, try again.

Alambic Bistro: Talk to a grieving Bebe. Cutscene of Hulot murdered as the Whytes. Bebe talks about making a copy for Hulot of a grotesque bust. Gus shows the picture of the Baphomet. Hulot's fresco which he stares at every night. Go forward to the other end of the restaurant and see a picture of Hulot surrounded by candles. Take a lit candle, move a little to the right and look up and close at the fresco on the wall. (If you have not exhausted all conversation with Bebe, the candle will not make a light on the fresco).

deleterman - you can't just "click" on the x's. You have to move the candle very slowly across and up and down on the fresco to find all of the hot spots (or x's). Use the screen shot in the walkthrough as a guide but move the candle around those areas very slowly.

Re: post mortem - 11/01/19 01:00 AM

Looking at the screen shot in the walkthrough it looks like there are several over there on the left. One is directly left of her head and then 4 more down further.

Re: post mortem - 11/01/19 01:05 AM

I remember getting stuck here years ago (when I last played the game) and the only solution was to go achingly slowly, and making sure to cover absolutely every inch !! yes

I think the sketchbook opens each time you are at a hot spot, as Gus is drawing each portion.

Re: post mortem - 11/02/19 05:28 PM

Go straight to the office of Inspector Lebrun. Save Game here to get the right dialogues, in case of dead end result in conversation.

Talk to Inspector Lebrun and answer him based on his last word or statement: (some of this dialogue might not be present if you've already talked to Lebrun before this part).

As the walkthrough says, be sure to save your game before beginning the conversation; that way you can reload your game and try again if things don't work out the first time around.

The walkthrough also says that some of the dialogue may not be present if you have already talked to Lebrun before this part of the game.

The Broken Sword game you mention is a good game. I seem to remember that you played it earlier this year, but nothing wrong with a replay if you enjoy it. wave
