Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 1

I am probably missing something really simple. I am at the mysterious idol and want to "look close", How do I do that? I left click and nothing happens. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

did you try putting the weather vane - looking thingy on it? After the weather vane is put on, it will show a close up of it.

Yeah, I put the weather vane on and it still doesn't give me a close up. I am going to try again later. Thanks.

Is the weather vane thingie the same as the magnifying lens at the top left?
