Black Mirror Chap 2 Pump puzzle

I just don't get it can't get the 3rd coloum to lower and spoilers. <img border="0" alt="" title="" src="graemlins/pacify.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="" title="" src="graemlins/woozy.gif" />

To start with, have you talked to Bates about the pump? I didn't do that, and couldn't make it work until after I'd completed that step...

I have talked to Bates and I can't get it to work either!

Pump Control puzzle - Save game here. The object of the puzzle is to lower (L-R) #3 column to no water seen.

This can be done is several ways. Note the height of the columns when one of the wheels is turned. Note that (L-R) columns 1 and 3 can be raised to the highest point before all the wheels can not be turned anymore. Note that the last column #4 can be raised only midway before locking all the wheels.

The best strategy is to lower #4 column enough to allow #1 and 3 columns to be moved.

One way is to turn from L-R wheels: Wheel #2 - left click once. Wheel #1 - right click 7 times. Wheel #4 - left click once. If correctly done, you will hear a glurb glurb and Samuel will say READY!

Jenny, I tried that and still no go...

Pam, Mags just called me--she's having modem problems, from the magnetic storm most likely. Anyway, she says that those directions will only work if you haven't done anything to the wheels. If you've already fiddled with them, unless you can put the columns back to their original configuration, you'll have to go back to a saved game and try it again. Then you should be able to use those directions...

Jenny, I tried going back to a previous saved game and there is no way I can turn that first wheel seven times no matter what.

Do this to untouched wheels:
