Grim Fandango, Trapped by Alligator

In year 4, Manny is in the sewer, on the ledge above the alligator. He climbs halfway down the ladder, the alligator has his tail under the Bone Wagon. The WT says to use the remote on the Bone Wagon to trap the alligator, but whenever I click on "I" for inventory, or "U" for use, Manny says "Not right now", and the alligator chases him back up the ladder. How can I get him to use the remote on the Bone Wagon? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="confused.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="confused.gif" />

SuMac, one of the walkthroughs that I found said to make sure you had the remote in your hand when you climbed down the ladder. Maybe that's your problem.....

Thanks Jenny, I just got out of that nasty situation by getting out the remote AND using it before I started down the ladder.
