Re: Evil under the sun - 10/19/07 08:18 PM

greatsmitty,

There's no need for the Cd to be on the drive. You can play without.
If you need help, please post at Hints forum.
Sorry that your game got stuck.

I have some parts written. Tell me if you want a copy of what I have written so far. It's so slow going right now. Life intervenes... smile

My gosh, MaG, you have some parts written ALREADY??????? Your idea of slow going certainly is different than mine, LOL.

The graphics in this game are lovely. The Hercule character is spot on.

Re: Evil under the sun - 10/23/07 09:02 AM

i finished the game. i agree the environment is lovely, the format for the gameplay has been perfected, and there is some great humor and great characterization. the music/sound is also very well done. there are lots of possibilities in the plot/subplot.
that said, i have to say i was disappointed by the ending. but i won't ruin it for any of you, and it was fun enough that i would play it again.

2 things i need to report about this game--glitches if you will:

1-after the murder, when i was back in poirot's room, i went to check the rooms of the other guests. i had a long interview with an invisibile Kenneth Marshall, and after it was over i was stuck in the room! the menu and every thing was gone--i had to control-alt-delete and shut down. i tried it again after to see if the same thing would happen, and it did.

2-on the evening of the 24th, i was looking through the rooms when i noticed the 'take' cursor appear out of nowhere. it was just under the menu and didn't correspond to anything in the scenery. so i clicked and i got a master key in my bag. then i clicked again, another identical master key. i ended up getting twelve, i could probably have got more. it was very weird.

Hi poirot77 and welcome to GameBoomers! welcome I take it that you are a fan of the Agatha Christie novels?

Re: Evil under the sun - 10/24/07 08:51 AM

hi Becky, thanks for the welcome! this site is awesome.
yes, i'm a big christie fan. but i'm not a purist-i think the identity of the murderer should be changed for the adventure games, otherwise what's the point of 'solving' anything?

do you know what the next game in the series will be?

No idea. Looking forward to finding out. thumbsup

Re: Evil under the sun - 10/26/07 03:47 PM

Is it true that this game comes on 3 CDs instead of 2 for some odd reason?
Posted By: texaslady

Re: Evil under the sun - 10/26/07 03:51 PM

Three CD's is correct SirGraham but the game will play without the use of a CD.

Re: Evil under the sun - 10/26/07 05:35 PM

I don't understand TAC, why not use a DVD? 3 CDs is so uncomfortable.
I also heard that in this specific case, CD #3 could easily fit inside CD #2 if they used a 700MB media, and that CD #3 contains only a few MB of data. Is this true? What are the sizes of CD #2 and #3??
I thought it would be much cheaper to release 2 CDs instead of 3...

Re: Evil under the sun - 10/26/07 07:26 PM

I just started playing this game yesterday, and already I am having problems with it. I have checked over at Glitches, and others are having the same problem as I am. Whenever I go outside the hotel there is whiteout, and can't see anything and have to shut the computer down kapoot!!I am not very computer literate, but I am going to try to do what they are telling others to do in regard to the driver and see if that will do the trick. So far it seems like a great game, I hope I can fix it so as to be able to play. Wish me luck
Beverly
I fixed the game by updating my video card, and doing a clean boot like the techs at game website told me to. No whiteouts so far.

Re: Evil under the sun - 10/26/07 09:43 PM

luck Bevlee -- I hope you get the problem figured out!

Re: Evil under the sun - 10/27/07 05:54 PM

If anyone else is having the problem with "whiteout", there is a solution over at the glitch forum. I tried it and it works, for now anyway, and am trying to continue playing this game----
tedious or not!! Beverly

Re: Evil under the sun - 10/31/07 11:36 PM

I have had to shelf this game as it is tooooooo tedious to play with all the "whiteouts". I received a reply from Dreamcatcher, but it was only a generic solution, but I did as they told me to do, but still having "whiteouts" so until I get a custom solution it will have to stay on the shelf. It is a pity as it was getting to be a great game to play.

I just received the game today- loaded it and started to play-have played for a couple of hours now-time passed quickly-- I am enjoying this game- graphics area great and I can follow the line of thought ---so far at least--lots of walking around -but I don't mind at all. bravo

Re: Evil under the sun - 11/03/07 04:43 AM

I'm probably about half way through the game and I am enjoying it immensely! First off, the graphics are wonderful and I am also enjoying the comic banter between Hastings and Poirot. I also like the fact that you are given significant time to establish key players before a murder happens. Then the game really picks up! I also like the "to do" list you are given to help you advance in the game. It's not obvious hints, but gives you an idea of what you need to do. Fantastic!

Re: Evil under the sun - 11/03/07 02:16 PM

I, too, think the "to do" list is great!!!

I got this game yesterday and stayed up late playing it! It's so cool, definetly a spooky feel to it and I love how it follows the book pretty well. I also like how they add the tasks you have to do in order to help people because there's a reason behind each one.

Re: Evil under the sun - 11/05/07 11:20 PM

I finally finished. Good, good game. Much better than the last Agatha. I had to redo a few chapters due to my enthusiasm and thus overlooking a few important things, but I'm glad I stuck with it. Loved the humour. Teddo

Re: Evil under the sun - 11/10/07 07:07 AM

I'm up to the middle of act 5 right now, close to the end and it is awesome! There's times I just load the game to look at the beautiful scenery, I love how they even make the clouds drift along! I love how the characters move around so you come across them suddenly and I love all the little mysteries to solve as well as the big one!

He didn't love her, he just used her to take advantage of her fortune. But he had to kill her before that was discovered, that was his motive. Furthermore he loved his wife very much and they used that trick again with his wife for another murder before that of Arlena

Re: Evil under the sun - 11/18/07 03:03 AM

Hi Guys. I work for Target, so I always grab a good adventure game when we sell them. I, of course, grabbed "Evil Under the Sun," and had a ball. Afterwards, I re-read the book and watched the David Suchet DVD and I was amazed and quite pleased at how well the game matched both. It was a great experience. I enjoyed it much better than Murder on the Orient Express, but will always be a fan of "And Then There Were None." I was a little disappointed to see that David Suchet didn't voice Poirot in the this game, however, the actor they got did a "spot on" job! And I so enjoyed actually being able to deliver one of Poirot's final denoucements at the end. I'm glad they chose the end they did. I think different books will require different endings, depending on the story and setting. I'm sorry to hear so many of you had a few glitches. Mine actually played flawlessly, which was a big help and made it that much more enjoyable. Haven't heard the buzz on any new AC game, but I'll definately look forward to it. As a side note, I did play the "Hidden Object" game version of "Death on the Nile," and for a simply seek and find game, it was pretty entertaining.

I finished this game recently and didn't enjoy it. :/ I thought the last 2 were much better than this one. I was bored with all of the walking back and forth, wished there was a jump feature. Poirot walked slower than a turtle. rolleyes wave

Re: Evil under the sun - 11/30/07 07:26 PM

QUESTION - Maybe a SPOILER (?) - I tend to ask questions and discuss a game without concern about spoiling the storyline for anyone who reads the thread...and I don't know how to 'hide' my spoilers...so here goes and if you have not finished the game yet (neither have I, just annoyed about this) don't read this = If this game is "non-linear" why can't I make Poirot go where I want him to instead of only where the walkthrough takes him/me? I
Click to reveal..
was in the tunnel, after finding those darts and placing them correctly and opening the secret door, and even I can see where I/Poirot should be going, yet he won't do it, says he has no clues to where to go next, but of course there they are right before my eyes! Had to return to the hotel instead of pursuing the investigation as I wanted to.....if you have played to here you know where it is and what I am looking at.
Question = I have returned to the hotel (after the tunnel now) and cannot find Emily on the Rocky Beach, no one is there, why can't I go to the bar and have a sherry? or something to waste time? What am I supposed to do while waiting for her?
I like this game, it seems very much easier than the first 2, loved the Orient Express, not so happy with the first in this series....like being able to do things in any order I wish. I seem to recall I had a problem earler in Evil with not following thru on something I wanted to do or proceed with but the game acted like a linear one there too...can't remember now just where I was at.

Re: Evil under the sun - 11/30/07 07:38 PM

There is no reason to "waste time" in the game BL. If you cannot do what you want to do it's because you missed doing something else you needed to do. I was never at a loss of something that needed to be done.

Re: Evil under the sun - 11/30/07 07:41 PM

Betty Lou,

The easiest way to add a spoiler tag is to go to the Full Reply Screen and use the spoiler tag. This is the one that looks like a megaphone.
Enter you spoilers in the text line.

As for Poirot in your spoiler above:
Click to reveal..
The mine is not just that entrance you see. It can be short or long. Poirot as he says needs something to guide him through that area. You do not want to venture in a dark mine without knowing if you will get lost.

As for waiting, then do what a regular adventurer would do. Check everything and see what might have been missed. Talk to everyone, investigate places, look at your documents and if you can't progress - ask Poirot and the finger in his office.
Posted By: Betty Lou

Re: Evil under the sun - 11/30/07 07:48 PM

Click to reveal..
But as Poirot I should be able to just follow the person's footprints down the tunnel on the left, nothing could be plainer than that, could it?
First time I didn't do it right, hope this time I did. grin I have never paid any attention to that 'task bar' with the globe etc and now I understand (I think) how to use it, thanks Mag and Becky.....

Re: Evil under the sun - 11/30/07 07:55 PM

Betty Lou -- I think you need to put the text within the spoiler frame. grin

I haven't gotten this far in the game myself, but as you know, in adventure games, often what looks easy involves some preliminary steps.

I hope you find your way (well, Poirot's way) (well, Hastings as Poirot's way) through!

I've been playing this game for an hour or two and am enjoying it so far. No glitches or hiccups - hope it stays that way! I was surprised to hear another actor voicing Poirot, but whoever it is, is doing a great job. Glad to read that others are having fun with the game also!

Thanks, it only took me 4 tries to get it right!
I have done a search in HINTS for any 'stuckness' I had in AC's Evil and could not find anything. I guess I have to go there and post a new thread in order to get an answer to my "feeling all alone on this beautiful island" - can anyone else find me in AC Evil in the HINTS forum? please! thanks
