Charming Fool of Name the Game - 02/14/08 07:42 AM
The time has once again arrived (after a brief hiatus) to start a new Name The Game thread.
...so many replies, so little space!!! Rules, for those who haven't participated before, the person who is IT gives clues to an Adventure game, the person who guesses correctly becomes IT. This is an ongoing game, relax, guess and enjoy!!!
I am IT, and I'm starting off by supplying the following clue:
The one I love has disappeared! The battle raging beyond these walls must have broken through somehow. Odd that more things aren't disarranged....
If you would like to take a look at the previous Plum Puzzling of Name the Game thread,

Re: Goofy Hoodie Hoo of Name the Game - 02/20/08 07:23 PM
Hoodie Hoo is February 20th and it's a day for folks that have cabin fever and are tired of winter.
Becky must be tired of winter.
Ana
Posted By: chrissie
Re: Goofy Hoodie Hoo of Name the Game - 02/20/08 07:50 PM
Thank you Ana for the explanation!
I think we should have a Hoodie Hoo day over here in the UK as well (but the weather is so unpredictable you couldn't decide what day it should have been until the spring!
) It was certainly one today brrrr! (but I'm thankful that we don't get the lowest temperatures that you get in some of the places in the US)- as for cabin fever - if you can also get it from being out & about everyday - I've definitely got it!!
I'd better have a guess now - it's sounds like it should be a Sherlock Holmes? - Mystery of the Mummy?

To throw you off the scent -
The temple has one, and the hut,
And the dancing gent.
Posted By: Becky
Re: Goofy Hoodie Hoo of Name the Game - 02/23/08 11:43 AM
Think, think think. How often have I seen a dancing gent in a game? Not often! Maybe not ever. Does this mean that male game characters don't like to dance?
EDIT: 80 Days -- a dancer who is also male! And a temple. No hut though.

Re: Goofy Hoodie Hoo of Name the Game - 03/03/08 09:14 PM
Flotsam -- Northern Hemisphere Hoodie Hoo Day is an official "holiday" in which people go outside at 12:00 noon and shout "Hoodie Hoo!" to celebrate the fact that the awful month of February is partway over.
Where you are, the weather is probably warm and sultry, so you don't need to Hoodie Hoo.
I changed it to "Lucky Leap" for Leap Day, but that isn't reflected in the title of each individual post for a technical reason I haven't taken time to figure out yet.
L4L -- something thin in the closet. Cheese, hair, the head of the President of the United States, a captured card shark, a malfunctioning teddy bear, a jar of gloop. Nothing seems thin, particularly not that hair. Maybe another closet?
I'm guessing an episode whose closet contribution I can't recall -- Reality 2.0?

Re: Goofy Hoodie Hoo of Name the Game - 03/03/08 09:18 PM

Becky - Bland was a joke, or a misleading clue - Neverhood is such a unique game, so I was trying to make it look like any old adventure. This is why I used the 'whistling' smiley - it was hinting the the game was not bland at all. Maybe a different word would've worked better...

2 US actress born in 1919
3 Song title: I can't help about the shape I'm in I can't sing,

Nostradamus.
Posted By: chrissie
Re: Goofy Hoodie Hoo of Name the Game - 03/24/08 09:35 PM
Not that one Bernard, - another 2 clues leading to 2 clues!
:
4 Well known Hans Christian Andersen story about a 'winter royal'
5 1946 film thriller based on the novel Some Must Watch by Ethel Lina White. (2 words together in this one!
)
sierramindy, the answers to the clues contain one word (2 in clue 5) which is something that is in the game e.g the answer to clue 2 is Veronica Lake so the game features a lake!
Not Nostradamus Becky.

Syberia II.

Re: Goofy Hoodie Hoo of Name the Game - 03/25/08 06:17 PM
These are the clues I think I got right so far:
The Castle
Veronica Lake (a lake) (Original thought was Doris Day)
Snow Queen
Spiral Staircase
Trying to think of a castle in the snow with a lake...

Re: Goofy Hoodie Hoo of Name the Game - 03/25/08 06:49 PM
You're right so far Becky, but they are not necessarily all in the same location.
EDIT I didn't think I could fit Doris Day into this
but here goes:
1958 film comedy starring Doris Day & directed by Gene Kelly!
(as before one word in the title is a feature of the game)

Tunnel or Love? I think I'd go with tunnel.

Tunnel is the right answer, but mmm... love could be a motivating force in the game.

Re: Goofy Hoodie Hoo of Name the Game - 03/25/08 07:54 PM
It's very interesting to see how many elements are repeated in many games.
The 3rd clue must be Oh Well I think.
Clue #6: 3 Novels by King that year(Man, he writes really fast!):
Christine, Pet Sematary, The Cycle of the Werewolf.
I try GK2
Bernard
Posted By: chrissie
Re: Goofy Hoodie Hoo of Name the Game - 03/25/08 09:46 PM
Not GK2 Bernard, I know what you mean about the same elements being repeated in many games but I've now realised the extent of the diversity - the guesses so far are a world apart from this game.
'Oh Well' is right - I knew Stephen King wrote a lot of books but 3 in 1 year!
sorry Bernard, should have checked that first - but it is one of the one's you mentioned!
Another clue: 1857 poem (or as I now realise maybe 1 of many from that year
!) by Charles Baudelaire.

Mmmm, Les Fleurs du Mal.
The more clues you give the more confused I get.
Is it of the KQ games?
Bernard

Haven't heard of that one Bernard & not one of the KQ games. This is a well known game, it's quite old now - but relevant in topic to a new one on the horizon.

Delaware St. John: Seacliff Tragedy?
Hmmm. Just saw your clue that it's an older game.
Retracting Seacliff -- Pilgrim?
2nd retraction -- 1857 poem by Baudelaire -- Les Metamorphoses du Vampire? Are we looking for Metamorphoses or for Vampire, I wonder?

There was a spiral staircase in KQ7 too, though I seem to remember some sort of large rabbit on it, rather than a vampire.

It was interesting to try posting clues like that, but I did realise from the comments, that they needed to be less 'universal' & more specific to the game I meant.

Ah yes, Black Mirror! That game and my old, second-hand computer crashed at the same time. I have never been sure whether one caused the other to fail, or if it was just a coincidence. There was an extra computer left from one of my husband's upgrades so I switched to it and threw away the game, as I didn't trust it any more since it may have caused the 2 crashes. Probably not, but trust is a fragile thing!
