Games with/without 360 degree panning

Games with/without 360 degree panning - 08/19/05 07:38 PM

All the games I've recently played or started to play have had 360 degree panning. It doesn't make me nauseous, I just find it frustrating - more so in some games than others. I would like at the least the next two games I play not to have that feature.

These are some of the unplayed games I have. Can someone tell me which have/do not have 360 panning.

Blackstone Chronicles
Byzantine: The Betrayal
Chemicus
Comer
Cracking the Conspiracy
Dark Fall 1
Dark Fall 2
The Day the Worle Broke
Dust: A Tale of the Wired West
Faust: Seven Games of the Soul
Gabriel Knight 2
Obsidian
Qin
Return to Zork
Zork Grand Inquisitor
Sentinel
Sherlock Holmes Mystery of the Mummy
Sherlock Holmes Secret of the Silver Earring
Sophie's World
Temujin
Titanic: An Adventure Out of Time

Thanks much.

GK2 does not. That's the only one I'm sure of from that list.

In general, you're more likely not to have 360-degree panning if the game is in third person perspective (you see your character walk across the screen), as opposed to first person (you see through the eyes of your character). I think, with the exception of GK2 and possibly Secret of the Secret Earring, that the rest of the games on your list are in first person (but someone please correct me if I'm wrong!) That doesn't necessarily mean they use 360 degree panning, but the more recent they are, the more likely they are to use it.

Sentinel definetly has 360 panning- it sometimes makes me dizzy- but you can change the way the mouse pans-

Temujin is a strange sort of interface- you don't actually click in the screen to move- you click on arrows outside the screen-I don't believe it was 360 panning-

Zork Grand Inquisitor does have it.

Darkfall I & II do not have 360 panning. I don't think Blackstone Chronicles did either.

Mystery of the Mummy has vertical panning, which took me a while to get used to.

Thanks one and all - you've been most helpful.

Since Titanic doesn't have 360 degree panning, I was leaning toward that as my next game. But, after reading Grannybarb's thread in the Hints Forum, I'm going to pick something else - maybe Dark Fall 1 or Dust.

Titanic is a great game, but it is difficult in that it is not static - people move around and do things in the game, whether you are there or not, just as in real life. So there are a lot of ways to go through the game, and several endings as well. It was one of the first games I ever played, and had no clue about walkthroughs then -which is probably a good thing where this game is concerned.
Of course, Dust and Dark Fall are also wonderful games, so it just depends on what you like. laugh

Thanks, Nickie. I will eventually play Titanic and also Obsidian. I had so much trouble navigating some of the Ages (especially Edanna) in Exile, that for now I'm looking for something, hopefully, a little less challenging navigationally.

Even in real life I'm so directionally challenged I can get lost locally if I drive a route I've never taken before. laugh

Aw Jema, I used to be that way too. Now I'm kind of like the old nag that always knows where the barn is. laugh

Hope you let us know which you decide on, and if you're enjoying yourself! luck
