Dream Holidays in fiction.....

Hi all,

It's freezing here in the UK at the moment (well, freezing for me), so I got to thinking "where, in a game, would I like to be right now...."

Imagine a virtual Travel Agency, where the hugely talented staff (with a little magical assistance) could whisk us off to adventure game locations....

Where would you go?

I personally would love to be in Timelapse's Egypt setting. No tourists. No traffic. Just me and that built-in camera.... bliss..... I'd try and catch that black cat too..... <img border="0" alt="" title="" src="graemlins/woozy.gif" />

Emily, I class the Sims as an adventure in its own way.. we just don't know what is around thr corner, Grim reaper, sadistic Guinea pig.. so I guess it should qualify!!

In true adventure terms, I would like to be in Legend of the asassin & the prophet.. in the camp outside the houris well. Sand, water, great scenery!!

For comfort, mmm must be the castle in GK 2

You guys would think I'm strange.......but, I would like to be spending vacation in the museum of Shivers 1. It may not be very relaxing. But, it's a very lonesome and quiet place to be.

Shame, I haven't played the Sims. I presume each players beach would be different....

Tigger, how come Yorkshire hasn't made it's adventure debut? Or has it?

Now night has fallen, I've ditched Egypt, and would happily visit McGinty's Bar (Black Dahlia) for a quick beer.... before setting out for a look around New Orleans (Forgotten or GK1)....

Mac, Shivers 1, great idea! If only that museum really existed. We'd all book a flight right now. What's your favourite room? Me = mythology room, or the stairway up from the space room... (lovely music).

Since the long ago movies of Frankenstein to Abbott and Costello I've always been intrigued by hidden passageways and rooms and mazes.

You can forget anything on the beach. Florida's beaches have pretty much gone the way of Condo's and Hotels. Sure miss the days when you could park on the beach and roam the boardwalk and penney arcades and roller coasters. Of course, if we're doing it in fiction-land I guess all is possible.

I'm already in New Orleans, Jonathan! If you come by I'll buy you a Blackened Voodoo Beer! (yes, there is such a thing!)

I think I'd like to be wisked off to the parallel world in Longest Journey! (as long as I can get back!)

Oh Tigger, I would love to be transported back to the castle in GK2! And I'd love to be in New Orleans, in a game or otherwise. Hey, Dark Fall, come to think of it, I wouldn't mind Yorkshire either. But maybe Cornwall would be a bit warmer?

Well, my destination would have to involve a reversal in time.....I would love to visit the Los Angeles of the 1940's as depicted in NOIR. I moved to L.A. in 1960 and lived there until 1984 when I moved up here to Washington State. By then though, the magic had largely turned into urban sprawl, traffic and smog. I would have loved to see L.A. in its magic days. The scenes in NOIR have always fascinated me.

Ooooooh, I couldn't resist this topic. I would LOVE to be in the house in the Dungeon Master's lair, in Zork Grand Inquisitor, surrounded by those sunflowers and snapdragons. That scene is one of my most cherished scenes in all of adventure gaming. It's a place I always wished I could actually live in. Ah, to dream...

In the tree house of Channelwood - the one that is decorated with taste (forget which brother it was, but wouldn't want either of them there).

Though I'm not a big fan of the game, I'm headed for the Dreamland amusement park from Faust for my getaway.

Everybody else is invited, but I'm taking Nathaniel's house.

I'd love to be in those strange balloons in Schizm! They all look like a Salvador Dali art work with hidden worlds in each one of them!

... AND, one place I'd NEVER go is... the Dark Fall Hotel!!!

I would first choose to be in the old haunted railroad station and hotel in DarkFall. And since this is a 'make believe travel agency and I am usually organized very well, let's just go ahead and plan my vacation for 2004. let's see, mmmm, I think I would like to spend some time in the art gallery in Temujin, would love to try to build that 'make a cup of tea machine' and poke around. There are more, but I'm having a Senior Moment as to just where/what they are. This is a fun topic.

there are Many spooky sites within Yorkshire.. plus loads of historical ones!! Guess no-one has thought to exploit them.. maybe an adventure based on the Barbara Taylor Bradford books doesn't hold any draw... I would look to Barbara Erskine for inspiration myself!!

Outside of the gaming world, I would Love to be within a Dahli painting... Thanks Bastet for making me think of him! I spent my colledge years staring at the sleeper for inspiration!!

I'd like to visit Shangri-La in "Legacy of Time" and hang loose with the monks, swap jokes with Genghis Khan, and see what yak butter tastes like.

For me, it would have to be the worlds of Exile, BUT....I would want to take my best friend with me too, and I'm talking maybe a 2 week vacation...plenty of time for exploring and finding our way to each new place. I would especially look forward to Edanna, and playing with the Squee too. ALSO...the ride at Amateria would be SO fun!

Yes, eating live prawns sounds pretty disgusting too, but for a different reason: all of a sudden your stomach has moved to a spot between your ears.

Interesting to read all the responses to this topic (BTW, I am planning to get Dark Fall real soon, Jonathon!).

Have any of you played that terrific on-line game called Faradise? I don't know if it is still available, but I find myself thinking of it from time to time and wishing I could be there. It had great atmosphere - in fact, I almost got a sun burn while playing it (lol).

Hi all,
Having had some bad days recently I want to do the following

- get back to Myst - Myst Island and all the supporting ages. I'll read the books in the library that aren't burned. Maybe I'll set up my bedroom in Channelwood. I'll hang out on the stoneship. I'll have to figure out where to get food, and if it's ever warm enough to go swimming, in all that water.

- hang out on the ship in Morpheus. I want a working ship, especially the plant room, and the gym. Wasn't there a pool (I'm very water focused)? I don't want any of those pesky irritating passengers, corporeal or not. Bringing my own passengers would be fine, but if not, I'll spend a month or so in blessed solitude. I'll look at the frozen landscape (and I hate the cold), then I'll enjoy myself on the rest of the ship.

- In Syberia, spend, oh maybe a year at the spa at Aralberg. I am a little worried about the quality of the cuisine. Maybe they can import cuisine from California, Italy, France and Mexico for me. At least the liquor will be fine. In the summer, I'll "take the waters" outside. In the other seasons, I'll swim in that really nifty indoor pool (well, I said I was water focused). Maybe they can give me my very own automaton to talk to.

- I think the house in Amber looked oddly comforting, before, of course, all those apparitions started appearing. It looked about the right size for me. I'd like to let in a little more light in the house, improve that computer, and add a home computer network with a couple more computers. It looks like home theater could also be improved - I didn't see any good speakers hooked up to the TV. This would only be a summer hangout - I'm not staying there in the snow. That boat dock (water again) was nice.

- I've got great hopes for "Paris of the 20s" in Post Mortem. I just started the game, so I didn't get to any of the not nice sections of Paris, I'm sure there are some. The detective protagonist should really improve his apartment (flat) though. Using oil paints (in the 20s they didn't have acrylic paints) in a living situation is really bad for you. Ventilation in his living and working space looked terrible.

Hmmmmmmm all of these places sound really great. I would have to go with the peaceful beauty of the Andes in Journey man 3.

For excitement I would definitely love to hang out at Calahans and mike and the rest. Really love riddle night and saving up every bad pun I can find.

Wouldn't mind riding the dragon on Rent A Hero. Then in the evening - I would take a good book and go upstairs to my room at the top of a lighthouse on a dark and stormy English coast

I would love to own that mansion in the Watchmaker, swimming it that big pool.

And also, you might find this a little weird but I would like to be the only real life person living in the cartoon life of Broken Sword the smoking mirror. I love the beautiful colors of that game.

And spend my weekend at Riven. exploring the odd places.

My first choice would be the Irish Island in Beyond Atlantis. I could lie in the grass and look up at the clouds all day. If only I could listen to that haunting music that accompanied that part of the game.

My second choice would be any of the islands in Faradise.

I am late but I have read what you all have written. A friend of mine has had Riven as a loan now for a year. I would like to go there very soon.I have always wanted to sit with my feet in the water somewhere in the sun on the Jungle Island and maybe I could make friend with that little girl.

Then I must visit Ireland in Atlantis 2 and ride the big white horse.

The beautiful castles of Bavaria seem irresistable. Perhaps I will meet my Werewolf-rabbit Ludwig, what do you think?

Nobody told me there was a mansion with a big pool in Watchmaker! Watchmaker is now back on my "try to play this in 2003" list.
