New to RPG - Divine Divinity

New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/13/03 04:56 PM

I have just bitten the bullet and bought Divine Divinity. I'm still playing more like an adventure gamer rather than an RPGer. I'm picking up everything that I can and that leads to my first of several questions:

1) I have reached the limit of my inventory. How do I choose what to unload? I'm still in the mindset that I will need everything.

2) I'm carrying stuff that I don't know how to use. How do I eat the food? How do I use the orbs? Some weapons can't be used because i am not strong enough. Will I get stronger, or am I stuck with this strength for the rest of the game. Should I ditch the weapons that are too heavy?

3) I have stolen so much stuff from people that they don't have anything to trade. I haven't used the trade function yet and wonder when I would be able to use it.

About quests:
4) My diary lists quests to fulfill, what I have been successful at, and what I failed in. Can I not undo a failed mission? Or is the failure permanent?

5) I met one monster in the catacombs and I have no idea how to kill him. This is level 3 and he is near a vase/urn that has something in it. He blasts me with something blue and I am dead. I don't even have time to think what to do and what to use against him.

Hope you can get me out of DD kindergarten class. I am playing Survivor easy mode.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/13/03 05:12 PM

Rowan --------

1. No, you will not need everything you see. Some things are just useless junk that aren't worth a thing. For instance, if you have plates in your inventory drop those items out. Some of the weapons you'll be able to use later in the game. So, I would at least save some of them. Potions are important. So keep those if you any. Food to keep would be chicken meat and boar meat. If you've killed any boar that is! wink wink

2. To eat the food, just left-click it on your inventory screen and your survivor will automatically eat it. He/she will tell when he is full from food. Then I would recommend that you use one of your health potions if needed.

3. Try sleeping the day away and then returning to those same people that you have stolen stuff from. They may have mysteriously obtained more items to sell to you. smile smile smile

Questions four and five, somebody else will have to answer. Good luck and have fun! wave

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/13/03 06:21 PM

Hi Rowan,
You can unload some of your stuff in one of the empty houses, and get it later when you are in a bigger town with more people to trade with. You really don't need to carry much with you, except whatever weapons you want and are able to use at this point, lockpicks if you have the skill, potions, and food. Oh, and the orbs, since you'll need them to get into a different part of the dungeon, and your transporter thingees, of course. You can trade at any time, although not all people will have something to trade.

As far as quests, what have you failed? No, you can't redo them (unless you go back to a saved game of course). There's one quest in the next town that you automatically fail, just the way the story line goes.

If you've reached a point that the dungeon is too tough for your character, try killing Orcs outside the town gate first. You can always run back to the knight outside the gate if too many are after you, and he'll help you with them (although you don't get the points for the ones he kills). You'll level up and may not have as hard a time, once you return to the dungeon.Have you run into the friendly Orcs down there yet? South of where they are is a statue, which will provide you with some help in fighting the skeletons. If you want to keep the help, you can't go out of the dungeon or you'll lose the help. I used meteorstrike, and it was effective, and I also used skeleton wall, which helped out a lot having another helper.
Hope you're having fun, and don't hesitate to ask questions - lots of DD lovers on this board!

Rowan, happydance
I really found it useful to go back and read the older strands on DD, it helped me so much.
Good luck and relax and have fun, and save a bunch

Chicken meat is also good. Bring up the stats screen before eating food and the see which ones get changed. I stored stuff in the abandonned building in the ne part of Aleroth. Has a hatch going down in the basement and some empty barrels. Key is either under a rock or in a barrel near the door.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/13/03 10:08 PM

Thanks all for your hints. I don't understand all that you've said, but I need to play a bit more.

Nickie, the quest that I failed was giving George the herb (starts with a D) that he wanted. What I did instead was steal his only herb by mistake. I had picke dit up before I realized what it was. He is now mad at me and I can't even give it back. I have found more but he doesn't give me any prompts for it in conversations. It also doesn't appear in my trade list. In my diary it says I failed this quest. I would like to undo my mistake if I could but don't know how.

Hi Row nice to see another newbie in the DD world happydance

I lucked out and didn't touch George's dead herb. I did steal the herb before getting permission so Lanilor might be a bit miffed at me.

Anyway, nice to see I'm not the only one who doesn't have a clue what they're doing lol

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/14/03 12:06 AM

Hi Syd, I'm not sure how I got a level 3 rating because I feel just as dumb as when I started.

I have questions about the number ratings of objects:

When looking at an object such as a weapon it gives 2 numbers separated by a slash. What do the 2 numbers mean? eg. 3/10

Also what do the 2 numbers separated by a hyphen for damage mean? eg 4-12?

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/14/03 02:35 AM

Row, have no fear about having lots of rookie questions around here. We treat newbies with kid gloves. laugh

Damage numbers refer to a range of damage a particular weapon may do at any particular time. The computer goes through its complicated algorithms and other such rocket science, and somehow decides that with one swing of a sword you'll do a "4" worth of damage (pretty pathetic, sissy flesh wound), and another time a "12" (major butt-kicking), or anywhere in between.

I can't say for sure what the slashed numbers mean for DD, but often such numbers refer to a weapon's structural integrity. As in 10/10 would be a new sword in perfect condition, 3/10 would be weakening fast. Once you hit 0, the sword will break, so you'll want to repair it before then. Armour will have similar numbers. If the numbers you're referring to mean something different in this particular case, I'm sure someone will correct me.

EDIT: Whoops - you beat me, Ingie. wave

Unlike adventure games, it's REALLY important to read through RPG manuals. I believe DD has a second manual on one of the CD's, as well as the little paper one, in case you weren't aware of it. smile

Good luck, and don't be shy with the questions!

Ingie, I can't remember for SURE that it's a manual - maybe it's just a background story, etc. But it struck me as being something well worth reading either way. thumbsup

Hi rowan:

You're going to love DD! Like someone said earlier in this thread, just relax and enjoy the game.

I can't add much to what was said here. It always amazes me how much detail Boomers here remember. lol Ask as many questions as you need to -- there will always be someone with the answer.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/14/03 05:31 AM

bravo Well done, Ingie! You are so right that you make DD your world, and there are so many choices how to do it. With all due respect to Singer, you would have to put me in the camp of "Don't read the manual until you play a while" school, so that the manual makes more sense, and can answer questions, rather than try and understand something without experiencing what they are talking about. I restarted the game myself after playing a bit, just to get a feel for what was going on.

Rowan, as far as the herb quest, it really will not make a lot of difference in the long run, unless it bothers you. There are an absolute ton of quests in the game, if you elect to do them.
The dungeon is not all that fun, but once you're out of there, there are so many things you can do, it is wonderful. I think it is great that you and Syd are trying it out - after all, if you like it, there are that many more games you can buy laugh

Just remember, no question is too silly to ask, and besides, I love to talk about the game - just ask Syd <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="tongue.gif" />

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/14/03 12:25 PM

Hi,

As far as how people feel about you goes...they will improve how they feel about you if you keep trading with them.
In one of my games George didn't like me at all because I stole his herb and he caught me at it.
All you have to do is keep trading with him and even give him some stuff for free.
When you click on the item to sell just don't click on his side to make him pay for it and it will be free to him.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/14/03 02:54 PM

Ok, I've restarted the game and am playing a lot "smarter" than before. This time I controlled my adventure game habit of just picking up things (which DD characters consider stealing). I didn't steal from George and he likes me now. I gave him more of that herb he wanted, so that quest is solved.

I'm down in the catacombs now, level 3, where I was before. I've met the "friendly" orcs, and got a dead man to help me. The only thing he did so far is kill one of the "friendly" orcs! I am at a door which I can't open, and there is no lever in sight. Does anyone know how I get into the next room, otherwise I am at a dead end in the catacombs? The place is near where the friendly orcs are and the dead man is given to me as my servant.

I notice that I have different equipment from the previous game.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/14/03 02:57 PM

Do you see a pentagram (or was it circles, anyway a design) on the floor in one of the neighboring rooms? You need to place your orbs there, and another door will open to you.
Posted By: Rowan

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/14/03 03:50 PM

Thanks, I managed to do that, and a blue portal opened up. However, my dead helper had disappeared after killing a second orc (who left me another orb). What happened to my servant? I never saw him killed. I left the screen he was in and he never caught back up, but now I can't find him or his body.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/14/03 04:57 PM

Hmm, you didn't go above ground did you? I don't think he can be killed, he's dead! but then so are the bone guys. happydance
Posted By: Rowan

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/14/03 05:53 PM

Thanks, Ingie. I did not go above ground, but lost him when he killed that second orc. Maybe they both killed each other? Anyway, I reached another level in the catacombs. I still have not found the 2nd teleporter. I have found lots of new weapons but I am overloaded. I've marked places on the map to remind me where I left stuff. I killed a real baddie in this level (4) and am proud of myself for that. I have found some unidentifired axes, so I don't know if one of them is Slasher.

I went above ground for a while for a breather. I bought new chain mail armour from George. But I don't know how to identify or repair stuff. Whenever I try that, George asks me if I really want to pay that much. But I don't know how to do it. I've looked in the manual, and I think I am doing it that way, but when I check it in my inventory, it is still either broken or unidentified.

Under the middle empty house at the top of the screen lives a very bad being. I have not been able to kill him. I die within seconds.

Anyway, at this point, I would appreciate some insights into how to repair and identify, and also where the second teleporter and Slasher might be.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/14/03 07:26 PM

Row put the teleporter you have down now and click on it - it will automatically take you to it's partner - but save right before you do it because unless you've already cleaned out that portion of the dungeon you'll be immediately attacked.

I did this part almost at the start and had no idea that I was being transported into the catacombs until I got there yesterday and recognized the place lol

As to Slasher - I didn't come across it so I have no idea where it is and I'm not too sure on how to get things repaired either - It seems to be hit or miss with me. I think I've gotten something repaired but not too sure.
Posted By: nickie

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/14/03 09:13 PM

You have to step on a floor tile to get to the place where Slasher is. A couple floor tiles will lead you to small places in the dungeon that you won't get to otherwise. The floor tiles light up when your cursor goes over them. And Slasher has a blue glow to it, and it will be harder to identify (level 4, I think).
As far as the repair skill, it depends on how many points you have in it, as to how much you can repair, and what you can repair. You'll only be able to repair a small percentage at the lower levels. You have to open up your view of the character, then click a lower box on the interface to activate your repair skill-the same box where you choose your spells, I think, the cursor will change to a hammer and anvil and then click on the item you want to repair. Sometimes it can't be on the person. It's a little tricky as I recall, as sometimes your clicking will just put things in your inventory, but you get the idea, I hope. Your identify skill is not too high in the beginning levels either, but you just click on the item in inventory. Or, if you're having someone else do it -it sounds like you were doing that with George, and you just have to agree to the fee, I think it was just marking accept. If you don't have enough gold, he won't do it. Oh, and I don't think you can be wearing the item to be repaired, it has to be in your inventory, so you can click on it and ask for George to repair it (but I'm hazy on this). If you don't have the skill to do it yourself, and the items are a level one or two, it may not be worth your while to spend the money to have them identified, but the higher levels will get you much more money in trade if they have been identified. If it still isn't clear, please ask again and I'll restart the game to see.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/15/03 05:02 PM

Syd, I have just reached level 7 and was just saved by a wizard from a dragon. I don't think I'm that far behind you. I'm playing as a survivor. I wish I had more strength so I could use some bigger weapons, but I don't want to sacrifice on the other qualities either. I'm not good at magic defenses yet, and don't know how to make potions either. Killing orcs sure is a novel career to make more money.

Syd, how are you for solving quests and how is your reputation? My reputation is still at 2 because I saved those 2 injured soldiers, but I don't know what else to do to increase that figure. Otho the dwarf hates me and zaps me as soon as I come in sight. He's taking it so hard that I made bacon out of his pigs. oops I wasn't even going to do that, but a stupid hint popped up and I followed it.

Nickie and Ingie, I'm hooked on this game already. I try to do all my house chores before sitting down at the computer because once I load DD, you can forget about anything that needs to be done in the real world.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/15/03 05:13 PM

Rowan, so glad you're having fun! Don't worry about your reputation, you're really just beginning the game now that you're setting off out of town. And that was mean of the game to give you that hint, wasn't it? I warned Syd on another thread. frown

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/15/03 06:39 PM

Still confused about the 2nd teleportation pyramid. I have one pyramid beside a bed. I have found a pyramid in the catacombs but I can't pick it up to carry around with me. According to my quest log, finding the 2nd teleportation pyramid is not solved yet. So where is it, or how do I pick this one up? When I touch it I get put to bed!

I also haven't found Slasher. I've stepped on the flashing tile and been in a new dungeon room, but no Slasher. frown

I would love to solve more quests, but have managed only 2 reputation points.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/15/03 08:06 PM

This dungeon has several levels, so you may not have completed them all. Make sure that you run round the perimeter of each level to clear the fog, as you may find you have missed a room that leads to another level of the dungeon.

The second pyramid is on one of the lower levels of this dungeon (or maybe right at the bottom), so you really need to make sure that you go right to the bottom level. I can't remember where Slasher is, but again, keep at it and you will find it - however, I'm not sure that you will be able to identify Slasher, because it's a high-level magic item, so make sure you don't sell any unidentified axes before you finish the quest. I did that in my first game and then had to wait ages until I had enough money to buy it back.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/15/03 08:57 PM

Open up inventory and drag it in there. There are alot of tiles. If remember right, it's guarded by a lord conjurer. You can see the lever and the door that it opens but it's a long trip between the two. Not all quests give reputation points.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/15/03 11:37 PM

Hi Row

How are you doing now? I'm almost to level 10 - have to bash me a few more orcs to make it (actually quite a few more orcs).

Most of my points are in strength and intelligence. I also seem to have 2 points alloted to fire resistance - not sure how that happened lol I still haven't found Slasher and I went back in a second time - guess I'll leave it for now and try later.

Well I'm going back in - see you around the forests wave

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/15/03 11:48 PM

Row, there's more than one tile that will take you to other parts of the dungeon, and like hagatha says, you may be missing a room somewhere - easy to do! Hope you can find it, but the main thing is getting to the bottom level so you can find help for Mordaneus. And I see Acornia answered your question about the teleporter - I think most people have done exactly what you did, with clicking it and going back to the other one! You'll find there are several objects in this game that you have to click and drag into your inventory.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/16/03 02:35 AM

I don't have a life in real time any more! I am just sooo hooked on this game. laugh

I finally found Slasher. I don't know how long I had him because he was one of the unidentified axes I had stored in a chest to save weight.

I also have the teleport pyramid in my inventory now. So that solved 2 more quests.

I'm still in the dungeon. I had missed some places and I'm battling lots of baddies when I open those tombs. I've just opened 3 of them and am taking a rest to see how Syd is making out. I'm still on level 8. I just can't keep up with Syd. I guess she doesn't have a life either. wink

I still haven't managed to kill the drummer, the orc chief, the troll king, and some other baddie in thew basement of the middle empty house.

Thanks everyone who has helped me so far into the game. Nice to have company - good company that is. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="cool.gif" />

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/16/03 05:23 AM

I lost my life about a week ago when I started this puppy, but this weekend has been a total bust in the real life department lol

I just made it to level 11 and somehow managed to get 18 quests to do - haven't finished a one of them yet whistle

I couldn't beat the Orc captain either and I haven't come across the Troll leader yet. No luck with the orc drummer guy on my end. I also haven't been in the two caves I found - guess now that I have a bit more strength, I'll go back and try my luck. Still don't know if I have slasher or not - I have a couple of axes but none glow blue so I guess I didn't pick it up. I'll go back one more time and have a looksee.

I remember those hordes of baddies coming from those tombs eek They are as bad as these stupid poison spewing bees they have on the outside yeeeesh - they are a pain to kill and let's not even talk about the snakes and spiders - blech!

I just gotta figure out how this weapon repair skill works - so far all I've managed to do is try to repair a troll to death and it didn't work oops

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/16/03 04:27 PM

Hi Syd, I have been able to use the repair skill by placing the worn item on the ground. I make Repair my active skill. Then I right click on the item nd I get the hammer and anvil icon. Then I click again on the item and "sometimes" it gets repaired. I can never remember if you should right or left click the on the item the second time. It repairs stuff a bit, but I find that George does repairs a lot better.

I'm down in the dungeon that has all those tombs. I've done everything here except open one of those tombs in the middle. It is locked and I can't smash it and my lockpicks don't work on it. How do I open it? I would like to finish here before going elsewhere if possible.

I've opened up most of the area around Aleroth. Syd, I have found only one cave and it is near the bridge. The troll king lives there and he is a baddie. I haven't been able to kill all the orcs that are near that ambush near the middle of the road. I may go back there and pick off a few more. I haven't crossed the bridge yet.

My main question is how do I open up that last tomb in the dungeon if my lockpicks don't work?
Thanks to everyone for being so helpful. You are all helping me enjoy it even more.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/16/03 05:50 PM

On repair: after selecting repair skill, just open the icon that shows what you're wearing or has a yellow or red hammer when something needs to be repaired. Click the right mouse button anywhere on the screen except for this pop-up window, then run the cursor over the item to see if it needs repair and left click on it.

Once you've opened up the right four tombs, get to open up one of the two in the middle. Click on it and finally get to the lowest level.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/16/03 07:20 PM

Thanks, Acornia. I'm down there now. I can't believe how vast it is. Just when you think you are finished with the dungeon, up pops another area.

How many levels are there in DD? I am now on L9.

I did a very stupid thing blush : I forgot to pick up my teleporter stone in one of the dungeons, and I had a real panic attack because I couldn't remember exactly what place I left it. Eventually I found it after much wasted roaming, but it was one of the most valuable lessons I learned.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/17/03 03:57 AM

Row, if you look back at the old threads, you will see that almost all of us did the same thing with leaving the teleporter at some point! I know I left it in the desert once and had a heck of a time relocating it. And, sounds like you're at the bottom level of the dungeon now...As far as levels in the game, you'll probably end up somewhere around 44-54, if you do most of the quests.
Posted By: syd

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/17/03 06:07 AM

Row don't feel bad I just left my transporter stone somewhere in the forest and had to go back and find it. Took me half an hour to relocate it bravo It's those stupid snakes that do me in, especially when there's a bunch of them <img border="0" alt="cry" title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" />

I've managed to get three of the six teleporter scrolls and have found all but one of the teleporters. I'm up to 20 unsolved quests so far (I think I've solved 15 is all) <img border="0" alt="woozy" title="" src="graemlins/woozy.gif" /> I can't believe how much of a game there is - it's like a whole bunch of little adventure games all rolled into one.

I think I'm going to call it a night - my eyes are starting to cross and I've lost the feeling in my legs from sitting so long laugh

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/17/03 09:21 PM

I've made it to level 12. I'm trying to catch up to Syd, but she is just too good! The worst baddie in my trophy list is a zombie who has a level 25 rating. I can't remember how I killed him or where he was, but I must have been in a coma when that happened. laugh Today I killed a troll king and a drummer. Never thought I would ever do it!

I ran into a glitch today where my computer freezes if I reduce the big map to the 3rd zoom out. This happened several times, so I stay zoomed out at the middle setting. Just want to be able to zoom more to get a better bearings of where I am in relationship to everything else. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="confused.gif" /> I did install the latest patch before starting the game. Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/18/03 01:47 PM

I haven't come across the lizard in the market place yet, Acornia. The only lizard I know was in Aleroth and he is gone.

Anyway I am out of that house. It was the house just north of the doctor's house. There were no other doors and the lockpicks didn't work. So I escaped another way and got even at the same time. I looted the house and overloaded my inventory with all the stuff I might find useful in future. Then I put my teleporter in my inventory in order to keep it and teleported myself outta there! I was back in Aleroth where I sorted my inventory, changed my armour to better stuff, then used the local teleporter to bring me back to the closest place where I left off. I just walked back and am now ready to continue my quests.

Last night I dreamed up that escape while in bed. Just couldn't sleep until I got that figured out. My BAAGS syndrome now has a RPG pocket. laugh

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/18/03 07:10 PM

It was Tingalf that locked me up. He was going to show me some stolen goods in a house. While I was browsing he left me and locked the door on me. Later I told a soldier about him and that opened up another quest: to find Tingalf's suppliers.

Now I am wondering how to complete another quest. I have freed the boy's parents who were hostages when thieves took over their home. However, the quest doesn't show as finished in my quest list. What haven't I done? It's probably some little thing, but I can't find the boy or the parents. Everyone took off.

I'm at level 14. My reputation is still at 4 and I would love to raise it a few notches. I got the best skill yet: polymorphing. Now I can go look up some of the really big baddies to kill them.

Syd, how are you doing? I see you popped out of the game to post a contest.

Hi Row -

Don't have the two quests you're talking about - yet <g> I just finished freeing the little boy from the Dark Cave (but can't get in to get the vampire bat) and the one the merchant asked me to do (find his supply wagon).

I'm at level 15 and can finally make my own potions - which I need being the spell caster that I am laugh

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/18/03 10:37 PM

Row, I had the Tingalf quest, but I never was invited into the house, interesting - maybe just survivors. You might find the parents and the boy at the archer's guild.Maybe talking to them will complete the quest (hopefully).

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/18/03 10:55 PM

I got Tingalf's quest by talking to a guard but haven't seen a couple nor a child (other than the little boy I rescued from the cave). Tingalf did invite me to look at his wares but I was talking to the weapons guy at the time and followed him first. Never did follow Tingalf.

Didn't follow him either and don't remember being asked--just bought stuff off of him. Did ask him about supplies after got the quest. Will need to talk to the boy at the archer's guild for that quest's points.

I have a bunch of trail bombs and scorpion traps in my inventory. How do you use them and when woud you use them?

Also, I don't understand the value of all the little coloured vials I've got. I know the blue one recharges your mana, red for strength, yellow for stamina, and I've used the invibility one. But I have no idea what elixir and some of the others are for.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/19/03 06:38 PM

The elixirs add to some statistics, and detract from others, so best to save before you drink, and then look at your stats (should be an obvious sort of thing, like adding a hundred to a stat). It's helpful in some situations, but can hurt you too.
Sorry, I didn't use the scorpion traps, so hopefully someone will come along that did. I know the traps can be very useful against real baddies, like the lovely Josephina.
Posted By: acornia

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/19/03 06:52 PM

The white one is restoration and will give you both mana and vitality. The orange one is strength. The purple one is a combination that increases attack/defense, I think. The black one makes you invisible until you use something though not always.

As for the traps, first need to select deadly gift spell. Then whatever you got will show up in a window. Left click on which one you want to use and it should appear in the skill window. Then right click to activate the skill and finally left click where you want it. Scorpions are real nice, they'll automatically will head off for the next hostile. When done follow them around, sometimes will kill something for you. Haven't had much luck in using trail bombs, and the spider mines have to be activated by someone walking on them. Then they go after whoever step on them and will also blow-up if nothing is there after a short time.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/20/03 02:26 AM

These quests are like the Gorgon's head - get one done and two new ones spring up in its place. I'm at level 17, have a reputation of 15 and just earned the key to the garden. I poisoned the orc well and got an invitation to SF castle. I have 24 quests done, failed 1 (didn't meet Z in time at the inn), and got 26 more to do...for now.

A lot of times I don't have a clue how to solve a quest, so I just wander around opening up new territory, and then stumble across a clue or a new quest. I've met a knight in shining armour and a spy dressed as an orc. I solved one quest by accident..the one with the disappearing/appearing gem near a graveyard. I was wandering around that region and a man stopped me and said I solved the quest. Have no idea what I did. But I'll take each small victory as they come. wink

I think that poison in the well is not working. I still run into too many orcs in the bush! I was hoping they would all disappear after that quest was done. <img border="0" alt="woozy" title="" src="graemlins/woozy.gif" />

Everyone fails that Zandalor quest Rowan, part of the story line. Naw, some of the Orcs must drink soda or something instead of water. Sounds like you're doing great! Remember that you don't have to do all the quests if you don't want to,having fun playing it is the main thing. And although everyone tells you to hurry and get something done, there are few quests that it makes a difference on! In fact, the only one I can think of is whether or not to burn the cart in Verdistis. And maybe rescuing the lizard, but that's a lot later in the game.

Hi Syd, From the Dwarven Forest teleporter go SE and you will find that portal stone you zapped to by accident. Go the same distance SE again, but slightly more east, and you should find the wishing well. It's in orc territory. When you find the well save before you make any wishes. Then you can try the various responses. You can wish for more strength, or more other attributes, but you can also wish for an orc fighting helper. I'm thinking of doing that, but wanted to hear from others for advice. I'm just afraid that I will shoot my helper with all the wild clicking I do when attacked by a horde of baddies. slapforehead

While travelling through orc country, I think I got the necklace that Balin was looking for (one of the quests). Now I can't for the life of me remember where Balin is! slapforehead Or the accused, Jonas, who supposedly stole it. Can someone jog my memory as to where to find them?
Posted By: hagatha

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/21/03 12:38 AM

The necklace that Balin wants is actually in Jonas' house, or on him (can't remember which). Both of them live in the poor areas. If I remember correctly you have to tell Jonas about the accusation and he eventually tells you about what a nasty man Balin is, and fesses up.

I had a lot of trouble in my first game finding people after I had finished their quests. The second time I got smart and labelled every house with the occupant's name as well as a mini-description of their quest, on my map. Ditto areas in the sewers that I wanted to go back to, and areas in the wilderness that I needed to find again.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/21/03 02:40 AM

Thanks for the tip, Hagatha. The necklace that I got from the orc was a false alarm. It was engraved To My Beloved Amulet and signed C.B. I thought that could have been B for Balin. Anyway, I did find the necklace where you said, but then had to choose whether to give the necklace back to Balin or teach him a lesson. That meant choosing to solve one quest and fail another. It left me with a dissatisfied feeling. frown

Well until I read hagatha's answer I was looking for Balin's necklace laugh Now I know where it is -

I just finished the cursed abbey quest and am on my way to deliver the feign death potion to Gareth. Also finished the other quest that had to do with Nericon's garden.

Got all the teleporter scrolls for what it's worth - not sure how to use them though.

Still can't find Dr. Elrath nor can I find Tingalf - they have to be somewhere in the merchant's village I would think.

Row - have you been to the Dark Forest yet? There are some mountain trolls that I'm not strong enough to whomp yet - I need to increase some skill.

I'm at Level 23 and 1/4 right now.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/21/03 05:51 AM

Just read this one after posting on the other, so questions answered. You're doing great. Don't worry about the Dr. he'll turn up
Make sure you finsih the quest with the vampire that took the kid. Yep, you need to kill him, after all he was a naughty vampire and killed George, so that quest will be completed Just make sure you go back and tell the village or mother.
You must activate the teleporter stones. There is one in each area. Then all you have to do is get on one of them and zap you're where you want to go. One's under some hay, there's the one outside the first village and the others are around. But you'll need to activate all of them.
You do that after you have the scroll, then just go stand on them, bingo they're on your map and you can use them to zoom zoom everywhere. Each one must be activated.
Hope that made sense laugh

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/22/03 01:56 AM

Just made level 20. Here are some things I haven't solved yet:

1) Locked places - There is a locked hatch in a house just south of the church - how do you get in? How do you get into that locked cemetery east of the church? There are locked doors downstairs in the abbey - how do I get in? My lockpicks don't work. I have some keys but they don't work.

2) I've washed the dishes in the castle but how do I show them to the cook so he can inspect them?

3) I lost my personal teleporter! <img border="0" alt="cry" title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" /> I lost it some time before I went into the castle, so it wasn't because I'm in the castle. I just can't remember when I used it last and where I put it down. <img border="0" alt="cry" title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="cry" title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" /> Can I continue the game without it, or should I go back to level 18 where I last had it? <img border="0" alt="cry" title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" />

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/22/03 05:55 AM

1)You can't get into the locked cemetary until the main story line kicks in (after the castle). For the abbey, have you clicked on the two levers? Not sure about the hatch.
2)Have you also washed the pots and pans? You should pick them up in your inventory and then click on the cook.
3) Did you still have one teleporter? Did the imp appear at the castle? If he did appear and you did have one, I don't think it would be a problem, since I know some people tried to leave one out on purpose, and they were still both taken.

I need some advice on how to get through the dungeon of Stormfist castle. I have no teleporter. I am having trouble killing all the critters that attack me around that mana shrine in the lower level. I run out of red and blue each time. I have no more red or blue potions left either. I can get into the cemetery even though I am not finished in the dungeon. Is there a special way out here? I've been down there for about 2 days now and can't keep alive.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/23/03 10:33 PM

If you haven't gone through the crack in the wall or portal, you can. There are places where you can top up your health and mana in the dungeon. Looks like a red or blue pool.
Posted By: nickie

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/24/03 12:27 AM

You aren't where you will find Zandalor yet (he isn't in the dungeon). If you can get out through the graveyard, and there should be an exit to the graveyard in the dungeon (but I can't remember where) then I would do it, but if you continue you still are not going to have your teleporters for some time. If you can figure out how to leave the graveyard, then yes, you can return.
Posted By: Rowan

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/24/03 01:58 AM

First of all, my teleporter was not taken from me. I lost it long before I entered the castle - my stupidity for that. oops

I know about the mana shrines in the dungeon. The problem is that many, many baddies are guarding the only one I've come across in the lower level. I can't defeat them. I've been trecking back to the upper level to refill, but that is sooooo tedious.

Anyway, I did make it out to the graveyard and was able to open the locked gate from inside. What I then did was go to that house with the locked trap door (between the abbey and the church) and I picked up that portable bed. That ought to make a good substitute for having lost the teleporter.

I went back to orc country to clear more land. I ran through the orc village and stood on the teleporter there, but I couldn't activate it. Who has the scroll and where is he? I'll look for him next.

Then maybe I'll have heart again to go back down in the dungeon.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/24/03 01:07 PM

Hi Row

If you haven't found the orc scroll - you need to go into the big tent that's by the orc prison pits. There is a huge, nasty orc inside that you need to kill. Then check the ground - he has a key that will open the chests. The scroll is in one of them.

Congratulations on getting out of the graveyard. I haven't tackled Stormfist Castle yet. Been saving it for almost last.

I can't begin to tell you how many times I lost my teleporter stone. All I did was trudge back to where I dropped the first one (currently it's under a tree by the good Dr's house with all my stuff.) That way I can teleport back to sleep and sell or buy stuff at the Merchant's Village.

I'm going to have to check out that house you're talking about. I discovered if you click on the straw in the barn you can make a bed so I took two bales with me and that's what I'm using to sleep on - kind of itchy but it serves it's purpose laugh laugh

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/24/03 03:39 PM

Syd, I really do think it's a good idea to leave the castle for after you've completed the other quests, because it can get awfully difficult and/or tedious if you don't have the teleporters. Row, when you go to the castle, it's part of the main story line to take the teleporters. I'm not sure what happens if you don't have them on you, but I think I read on the Larian forum that you still find them in the same place where everyone else does that had them taken, if that makes sense. But there's at least one fight coming up that is a doozy with the delightful Josephina, and if you don't have your teleporters...But maybe you're tougher than I was!

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/25/03 03:01 AM

Syd has a major problem right now. I installed the patch when I first started the game but the patch will not work - I lost a bunch of stuff and the maps are all black. I uninstalled it hoping I can get the patch to work after another install but now the game won't install at all - the disk must have a bad file on it. So as it sits right now - I'm unable to finish the game and I'm not a happy camper frown

Edit - got it installed finally - so we'll see what happens - but before I hit this snag I was at level 28 and had done about 5 quests in Verdistis.

Update: Got the patch to work this time - I have no idea what was different - I checked both times and it said I had patch v1.0 dated 3-13-03. Anyway - I'm finally to where I was four hours ago before all this happened and I'm back to being a happy camper and am now going underground to find me a cat named Cosmos laugh

Hi Syd, I've had the occasional problem with the maps. I find the maps work best at the middle zoom setting. Also if I lose my mini map, it can correct itself after teleporting. I supposedly have the newest patch, but I am scared that its unreliability will make me suffer later in the game.

I haven't had any problems with the maps up until last night - and I'm talking I had total blackout - just like at the beginning, only my teleporter stone and the portable bed I'd gotten were gone and I don't know what else.

For some strange reason the patch didn't "take" the first time I installed it. Luckily, it did the second. You can't believe how happy I was to see sunlight when I teleported into the Farmland (as a test) laugh You probably won't have any problems at all -

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/26/03 04:25 PM

Hi all:

What is your favourite armour/weapons outfit and why?

I have the dragon shield and amulet, and a mages winged helmet. These give me plenty of extra virtues along with them. So far I have been using a "ruthless hunting bow" that is quite powerful but needs lots of repair. The other items I feel neutral about. I particularly wish to get longer lasting armour. Although I have level 2 repair skill, it's a pain to wear out your armour in the middle of a heated "discussion" with some baddies.

I have liked using a bow as a primary weapon because I can fire at enemies from a distance before they get a bit too close for comfort. I used to use some other weapons earlier in the game and these let me smash some locked chests, so I didn't need a lockpick or key. Which leads me to another question: Do you use a favourite weapon most of the time or do you carry others with you as an alternate?

I find that my inventory gets quite full very quickly, so I can't steal so much. I pick up money, gems, potions, and unidentified weapons in the hope that they are better than I have. However, this loads me down and sometimes I can't get a quick identification. What are some of the things that you dump? I haven't used the trail bombs or the scopion traps and have been dumping them regularly. Sometimes it is just not worth dragging stuff around until you finally meet someone who wants to buy the stuff.

So how do you keep your inventory light but with efective stuff?
Posted By: nickie

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/26/03 04:40 PM

That sounds like great tactics using the bow. I generally got too caught up in the excitement, so if I didn't use magic, I used the Singer sword through most of the game (until I got the divine one, which has frost, and very effective in the wastelands). I found the same thing with the dragon armor - it broke the minute I got in a fight, and was too expensive to keep fixing it. I can't remember what else I used, but in the wastelands there are quite a few imps that drop mithril (? I think) armor that is really good. I didn't carry extras in my inventory, because fortunately the weapons didn't seem to break. There is so much loot in the game that I got to the point where I didn't even bother to pick stuff up that wasn't really high quality and I could get a lot of money for it. I carried a ton of potions or empty bottles though, and the thankfully weightless bed.
Posted By: syd

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/26/03 05:24 PM

Since I mostly rely on magic, I don't use conventional weapons very much so I've dumped most of them - I think I'm carrying around some kind of sword just to slash the spiders, bees and mosquitos laugh I have lightweight armor, a helmet and a shield - nothing fancy but it protects me. I am wearing the sapphire ring I got from one of the plague victims and another ring that I can't remember what it does. I also think I have a dragon necklace and vampire boots. I do have the Singer sword that I haven't used yet, must just be keeping it for sentimental value <img border="0" alt="[kiss]" title="" src="graemlins/kiss.gif" />

I'm getting so I don't bother to pick up anymore shields etc. I do get the gold and the potions however. I also unloaded the scorpion traps and trail bombs.

Like nickie I have a ton of potions and some empty flasks - doubt I'll ever use most of them but I have 'em just in case.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/26/03 11:22 PM

Row how you doing? I'm at Level 30 and am currently fighting nasty critters under the Warrior's Guild in the Dark Forest. Man the baddies in this neck of the woods are tough eek I feel like I'm back to level 10 fighting those hordes of orcs.

Have you found any parts to the treasure map? I have three so far - just need to find one more. I've also found two of the three Holy weapons. I have a dagger and an amulet.

Just thought I'd take a break from zapping Insane Skeletons and Dark Zombies rolleyes

Oh and guess who started DD today? Jenny laugh laugh Yep, I lured her over to the dark side wink She's playing as a survivor and is at level two right now whistle

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/27/03 12:45 AM

You might not want to sell all those traps. If you give yourself the trap skill, you can use scorpions to take out TONS of enemies and if you are in a tight situation, they can be pretty handy. A word of caution though - at level 4 and 5 those scorpions are powerful enough that you can file your nails while the enemy dies in droves. In my first game, the last battle was non-existent because I let three level 5 scorpions loose. End of game. The other trap types aren't very useful.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/27/03 01:34 AM

Hi Syd, I just made level 30 also. I have 2 pieces of the map. I have no idea where the Singer sword is. Is that one that needs to be identified? I think I'm fairly lousy at solving quests. At one time in the game I had a reputation of 15 and I have sunk to -1. blush

Darn it, Hagatha, I just unloaded all my scorpion traps somewhere. whistle laugh whistle But by that level, I'm sure you are already as hooked as Syd and I.

Here are a few other puzzles that I have been wondering about: In the sewers of Verdisti is a room that I cannot get into. There are no obvious doors to get in but it seems there is something in there. It is in the SW part of the sewer map. There are also a couple of other exits from the sewers but they just have locked doors which I don't know how to open. Also, there sre so many locked doors and locked chests in this game. Is it essential to be able to get into everything? Do I need higher lockpicking skills?

I am thoroughly enjoying myself, but I really would like to improve my reputation and solve more quests. I've haven't solved any of the main story line quests in Verdisti, just some little subquests.
Posted By: hagatha

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/27/03 05:28 AM

Those locked doors in the sewers do lead to places, but most of them you will get to later in the story.

The place you are referring to in the SW part of the sewer map is probably the room that has a gate arrangement on one side of it, and some chests in it. I've heard that you can throw one of your pyramids into the room (making sure that you have both in your inventory) and transport in, but I have always been able to get at the stuff in that room just by using telekenisis on the chests so I've never actually entered it.

I would recommend getting those lockpick skills up as high as you can. You don't have to get into every chest, but it's a lot of fun, and you can get rich that way. At various points in the game lockpick is useful.

Lots of scorpion traps available in the game from merchants, and cheap. You only need a few at a time.

If your reputation dropped that much you must have killed someone innocent by mistake! Mind you, as far as I know there's only one quest that's reputation-related.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/27/03 06:38 AM

When you get kicked out of the castle, your reputation drops by a bunch, so that part is just story related.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/27/03 03:32 PM

Row you may pull ahead of me yet lol I think I've solved all but one of the Verdistis quests - getting the brooch from the Dwarven Halls - that is unless I missed talking to someone else.

I haven't found the wizard that changes people into animals yet - have been spending most of my time in the bowels of the Dark Forest getting whacked by the critters down there (I'm doing the first quest in the Warrior's Guild). I've teleported in and out so many times it's pathetic. I have Elemental Hail that works very well when a bunch of the skeleton and zombies decide to attack at once but it sure depletes my magic fast. Guess I should start picking up some more scorpion traps and getting the skill up to snuff - right now I have a level 1 Death Trap.

I also have done nothing at Stormfist Castle. After the Dark Forest I think I'll head there.

I have no idea where I found the Singer sword. Didn't really notice it until I started unloading my inventory for storage. I can't use it because my agility isn't high enough - I've been using the points to build up strength and intelligence and sort of neglected constitution and agility. I also don't remember having to have it identified -

Well, better get back to the game - so much to do - so little time laugh

rowan and ingie,

the singing sword is found in the sewers below the merchant town(forgot the name as it has been so long), it is part of the black market quest involving marcus and trevor.

as with all special items you may want to save first if you want something particular on the sword such as 5 enchant slots or freeze on it.

I also got the second quest for the Warrior's Guild, plus a couple of other quests.

Syd, I splattered that evil magician also, but I have not figured out how to release the poor victims from their animal bodies.

I've been through the elven village and fell in love. <img border="0" alt="[kiss]" title="" src="graemlins/kiss.gif" /> blush <img border="0" alt="[kiss]" title="" src="graemlins/kiss.gif" /> Kinda impossible when you think I haven't had a bath after hundreds of killings and miles of trecking through sewers and dungeons.

I've been through the Imp's castle and have not found the scroll for the teleporter. There is a locked door at the end of the dungeon and I don't know how to get in there.

I have found the first item for the Warrior's guild, but have not found the 2nd.

I'm taking a break from the Dark Forest and am back to Ars Magicana. I'm down in the sewer looking for Singer. When I first entered the sewer, I found a character called Pedro, but he was frozen on the spot. Can anyone explain this?

Also, I am carrying a lot of poison in my potion part of the inventory. How is this used. If I drink it, will I kill myself, or will my stench help kill the baddies? I just haven't tried anything with the green stuff and want to know how it is used.

Syd, I won't be gaining on you because I will have a busy few days ahead of me in the real life adventure, but I will be checking in to see how you are doing, and maybe kill a lizard or two.

To Ingie, Nickie, Hagatha, and others, thanks for all the helping hands you are giving me in this game.

I was having a good time cleaning up in the catacombs, but I guess I'm going to have to stop for a while. I just got the loan of Thorgal's Quest, so I want to get it done before I go on with DD. Anyway, I'm so far behind everyone else, that I figure if I just stall around you will all kill the baddies and I can just waltz to the end. HA!!!

Is there a way to keep the survivor from moving forward when she shoots a bow? In Diablo you hold down the shift key, but that doesn't have any effect in DD. It negates the advantage of a long-distance character if the idiot insists on running up to where the fight is instead of pouring in arrows from a ways back...

No Ingie, I was strictly a magic user, that is, except for when I got particularly bloodthirsty and used the sword. So I don't know what you need to do to avoid melee combat, except clicking to get a different vantage point- hopefully someone will come along that used bow and arrow. I think the default setting is to hit the closest enemy, so that could be why her character goes into closer contact. In the manual it may say how to change that.

Nope acornia I haven't used any on wisdom. I have two unused ones right now - maybe I'll put one toward wisdom and see what happens.

I've been down in the mine tunnels under the Dwarven Halls - good grief those evil dwarfs are miserable to kill. Was there anything down there I needed to get other than wipe out the populace? I couldn't find diddley squat there. I'm now teleporting all over the Hall - interesting way of traveling laugh

Ms Elfie huh? Well that could be the problem, seeings how I'm also a female lol But I'll stroll back there anyway. I mean there has to be an unattached, good looking elfman running around there somewhere oops

Just curious. Did anyone go into Iona's madhouse? In case you missed it, in the dungeon there's a room with double stacked barrels. Front ones are usually empty and the back ones got a couple of items. When you move all the barrels out of the way, will find an entrance. There's a cabin on the other side and everytime you go through a door, you land in a different room from the one you were trying to enter. In one of the rooms is a skeleton that you can make sit or stand using a lever. Never did figure out how to get out of there.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/29/03 10:49 PM

Hi everyone. I've been busy the last couple of days with family and some overseas company, but had to check in to see if my elven love is still true to me. I think so far he is, unless Syd joined the two-timing guild and has sworn him to secrecy. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="tongue.gif" />

I haven't played much except I continued clearing out the sewers of Rivellon which I had forgotten that I hadn't done yet. These sewers are really easy compared to some of other underground regions.

Acornia was that mad house in the dungeons of Verdisti? Because if that is the one I was in it. I did get out, but don't know how I was thrown out. (Guess they thought I was love-sick, not nuts). laugh I just remember clicking and all of a sudden I was out. I was a bit upset because I had missed some rooms, and I couldn't get back in to check them out. The mad place just didn't show up again. I haven't finished the Verdisti dungeons because there are a couple of rooms where I wasn't strong enough to beat the bad guys.

Syd, I am using a bow as a weapon and sometimes I move toward the target, but I have been able to stop myself and even move back. This is tricky if you are surrounded by a crowd of baddies. So my favourite tactic in a crowded situation is to use skeleton wall. This keeps the crowd busy and you can back out of the crowd and then pick them off one at a time.

Anyone, what is the poison potion used for? I can't believe it is a suicide concoction.

I entered a cave in the Dark Forest near the Imp's castle. That is one place that seems impossible to do right now. I am looking for the Holy Grail, and I know it's there, but boy is it protected!! Is this the place where the scorpion traps (which I don't have any more)would come in handy?

OK everyone keep an eye on Syd while I'm busy with real life stuff before I can back into longer play periods again. smile

Yep Row hang onto your love - I just spent two hours at a secret underground beauty parlor in the mines of the evil dwarves getting all cuted up so I can go man elf hunting, [and I look pretty darn good I might add] laugh

Just beat that nasty spirit that inhabits the stone where you pull the sword out. Yeesh, that was one tough hombre rolleyes

I got the brooch from the dwarven jeweler and am on my way back to Verdistis to give it to Sir Dante's aid. Then I guess I'd best be finding that cave and look for the Holy Grail.

I found all the teleporter scrolls - but still need to activate two teleporter stones -

I haven't managed to poison anything but myself lol Also, I keep reading that some of my weapons have charm powers and I also have four or five round disk thingies that say they can charm or are charms (I forget). What's the deal with that and is it worth charming anything when I'm a mage?

Oh - I made Level 33 and I still haven't figured out that *%&^ statue in Torgal wink

No, nothing to fight inside the house. Don't know about outside of it. Get to it through the graveyard. Just can't remember if it was on the first or second level but think it was the second. Got a save game in the dungeon room just so that I can go back and play around with it some more.

Syd, Here's a quest for you: You can have my elven love IF you can defeat ALL the monsters for me where the Holy Grail is. laugh This elf is a bit fickle. I tried to butter him up by giving him a ring, but I think I wasted the value of it.

I think I've found the potion that Gareth was looking for. Now can anyone refresh my memory where Gareth is? That is such an old quest but I've lost the person. frown I think I need a secretary.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/30/03 05:43 AM

Wow Syd, you're good! Glad you could answer all that. Yes, by all means get the charms, they are extremely helpful to your statistics. You might want to leave a few spots open on whatever armor you like a lot and will be keeping, as once you're in the Wastelands, you can get much more powerful ones. Especially helpful will be those with spiritual resistance. So you could trade a bunch of the puny ones and get a good one, if you've found only puny ones. And, once you rescue Zandalor, it will open up the council area for you.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/30/03 03:35 PM

I got the Holy Grail. I didn't kill the Egyptian monster. I just grabbed and ran like H*ll. I've got the holy water for the grail and released the cow. I still have to find that boar that escaped somewhere in the woods. Does anyone remember where his location is, so he can get a drink of holy water, too?

I still can't find the scroll for the Imps teleporter. I've been through those underground rooms several tims now,and no scroll. Also the door at the end is locked and I don't have a key, a good enough lockpick, or lever. How do I get in?

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/30/03 03:48 PM

Try the elf encampment for the boar though he found me before got there.
Posted By: nickie

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/30/03 04:16 PM

I guess the boar wanders - I found him around the alchemist's house, but I have heard of others finding him around the warrior's guild.
Rowan, the scroll was in one of the first rooms to the west of the big room in a trash heap.
The charms are different colors to designate their power - I've forgotten, but I think it was gold that was best. I'll look in my notes to see if I have something on it, if someone else can't answer.
Rowan, I'm a little confused about your room question. Do you mean you activated the three (edit, sorry should be two not three) levers on the one level, and have gone down to the next floor and can't get in the one room?

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/30/03 04:48 PM

Ok, the boar found me outside the alchemist's house. I think the first time he was near the elven ruins. I went through all that trouble to get the grail and the holy water, and he changes his mind! rolleyes

Nickie, I am at the Imps castle. I cannot find that scroll anywhere. About the locked room - I went downstairs through the newer dungeons, and into the older part. I have cleared out everything. I saw the dragon. He went away to hide what I was looking for. I killed all his henchmen. I am looking for the Heart of the Dragon (2nd quest of warriors guild). The room is at the very end (NE) part of the dungeon and it is a newer room with treasure visible. There are no levers, nevermind 3 of them.

rowan, the imp scroll is on the same level as the dragonheart gem. it is in the northern section among a bunch of garbage.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 06/30/03 05:26 PM

Hi,

I thought I'd pop in--DD was one of the best games I've played and reading your posts makes me envious that you are playing it for the first time and discovering its greatness!!

Anyway, about the poison, I had a few points in poison weapon, when you activated the skill it would apply poison to your sword, axe or arrows for example and it was fantastic against almost any enemy--made those orc drummers go down fast. Very few maonsters had resistance to poison so it really helped. You just needed to have some potions in your inventory.

Charms can be a great help to your stats and resistances. There are 4 levels of charms, from a small bonus to a very large bonus.

-Aluminum?: Gives Minor Bonuses
Adds 40 to Vitality/Mana
Adds 4 to Statistics
Adds 10 to Resistances

-Bronze: Gives Medium Bonuses
Adds 60 to Vitality/Mana
Adds 6 to Statistics
Adds 15 to Resistances

-Silver: Gives Large Bonuses
Adds 80 to Vitality/Mana
Adds 8 to Statistics
Adds 20 to Resistances

-Gold: Gives Very Large Bonuses
Adds 100 to Vitality/Mana
Adds 10 to Statistics
Adds 40 to Resistances

Each level of Enchant weapon can give you the ability to add charms up to 5 charms on 1 item so you can see this can be a significant advantage. The charms cannot be taken off and reused on another item.

Thanks so much for coming by Marianne - I've been searching my notes for that info and not finding it.
Sorry for the confusion Rowan, I thought you were still doing the cursed abbey part. I see in my notes that the scroll is in the very next room down the hall to where you saw the dragonrider (to the left of that main room), but I am not seeing anything and can't remember about the room you can't get into.I don't recall having to go through any locked doors to find the dragon, though.

Thanks for being so patient, Nickie. I still haven't found the imp scroll, still can't get into the locked room under the Imp castle, or the locked door under the Cursed Abby. I've given up on them for now. I also haven't found the lizard scroll to activate the Verdisti sewer teleporter. frown

The good news is that I found Zandalor and he took me to that Council place. I am now looking for the Group of Seven. wink I'm in the cave with only Josephina left to kill. I've killed all the other evil dwarves. What I really need to know now is what weapon or magic trick works best on killing her. I've already died a thousand deaths by her.

I'm at level 34.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/01/03 01:13 AM

Sorry you had a problem with those, Row, and wish I could help more. Are you sure it's necessary to get into the locked room at the imp's place? Did you backtrack and see if the Dragon was in a room you had already been in? And you did get the eye on the other floor first, right? Re the scroll, did you see the trash heap in the next room to where you fought the dragonrider? There's the main room, then you're kind of in a hallway, and then a smaller room?
Great that you found Zandalor! Did you happen to look in the other rooms at the council place and find a hiding imp? Like one of the top rooms to the left?
Josephina is a tough customer! I reloaded many, many times. What worked for me, is I took a black potion to be invisible, got up right next to her, and started zapping her with spells- can't recall which, but I think the one that does three at one time (lightning, poison and ?). If she sees you first it makes it much harder. If I was losing, I hotfooted it back to the ladder to get healthy on the above floor, and then did the same thing again, since she doesn't get healthy at the same time. A weapon with freeze on it works great. I didn't use any of them, but I heard blind works well on her, the warrior special move works well, and scorpion traps too. Finally after days and dozens of attempts, I got lucky.

Syd and Row,
She's the worse and I mean the worse.
Follow Nickie's suggestions And Zanthia's and you will survive. She's the toughest cookie out there in my modest opinion.
It took me about 3-4 days to get rid of her, lot's of small hits and saves. Have lots of potion with you, make sure weapons are repaired and lots of strong spell cast.
Good luck you two

Just made it out of the dungeon and through the graveyard so I'm off to buy more potions and get my armor repaired before I try anything else. Then it's back underneath to try and find Zandalor.

I think Iona put a stupid spell on me before she locked me in the cell however rolleyes When I found my stuff in the chest I had heart failure when I saw that I had 1,569 items (my back hurts just thinking about all the stuff I was carrying) and I started moving each item individually back into my inventory, thinking that it was going to take all night to do this. After about 15 minutes of draging inventory (yes people, I'm slow sometimes) I finally said to myself, "self, click on it instead!" Well, darn if it didn't just zip in after that laugh

I did the same thing, Syd lol As you are walking out of the graveyard, on one of the paths close by you should meet a salesman. Don't miss that quick quest (finding Shrimpo) for a real good laugh. Did you meet the former King's ghost?

Whew, glad I'm not the only one that had to be hit over the head with a 2 x 4 laugh I missed the salesman at the graveyard - can I go back and meet him?

Yep I saw the dead king's ghost - gave him the good news and he disappeared on me.

I'm right now roaming around the Council of Seven Chambers looking for the succubus. It's sooooo nice to have my magic back - I was a lost puppy down in them there dungeons without it.

Found the teleporter stone but it's not working - something is blocking it (don't ask me what - that's just what my self said). Guess I need to go smack who's ever causing all this trouble laugh

By "killing" Josephina I was supposed to get 3 sacred items for the elf. I found only 2. Is the 3rd one somewhere else, or did I just miss one?

Way to go Syd. I finally got my teleporter stones back. It didn't matter that I had lost one. I'm so used to playing without them now....

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/01/03 09:47 PM

There is a staff that is sometimes very easy to miss. And one time I even found it but it was "stuck" in a wall. If you can't find it, it may have fallen somewhere outside the room, as it did for me that one time. If that is the case, you may have to redo the battle. If you don't relish the thought of that, get some scorpions, go down the ladder, drop 2 or 3 of them and go back up the ladder. Then go back down and most of the enemies should be dead. You can also throw a couple of scorpions at Herself.
Posted By: Rowan

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/01/03 09:53 PM

I did have the staff. For me it was unidentified, so I didn't know I had it. The elf took it and that's how I knew the quest was done.

I'm back in the Stormfist sewers because I had problems there earlier. I am now much stronger, and it is much easier. I've just cleared out the second level, and ... oh no ... there is a 3rd level. I'm sick of sewers. I really would like some fresh air.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/01/03 11:32 PM

Got my pyramids back and I'm now doing the Council of Seven Quest - sorta. I decided while I was up top, to go back to the graveyard and see about that salesman you all were talking about - thanks guys rolleyes - you don't even want to know how long it took me to figure out how to take down the 'ole shrimp man. First of all it took me a while to figure out how to get him to appear laugh

I am back in Iona's dungeon and found another level I missed before. I also have two out of three of the Holy Weapons. Any ideas where the third one is and for that matter - what it is? I have the dagger and the amulet. I also have all four pieces of the treasure map. Just not sure what to do with it. Haven't tried to combine them - guess I should at least give it a shot.

I also have three pieces of dragon armour. Not sure what I'm supposed to do with it - but guess I'll keep it just in case it's important later on.

Geeez I just re-read what I wrote and it sure is a mish-mash of stuff done, doing and un-done lol

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/01/03 11:50 PM

whoa, impressed here!! bravo bravo
I think I only 2 of the treasure map-maybe 3
2 of the dragon armor
and only 2 of the holy grail quest-could have had 3, but that's the little part that when I patched got wiped out-the dagger was inside, it said I had already opened the door-the door was locked,
sigh frown
Oh well, the fun of RPG is you get to do it again and can fix what you coulnd't first time through. laugh

I really need help with my 2 of the scrolls which I can't find. I need to find the lizard scroll for the Verdisti teleporter. Does anyone remember where it is to be found? The other one I can't find is that infernal imp one. Which level are they on? Are they close to the teleporters? I sure would like to finish that scroll quest.

Syd, my game is a mishmash of partially completed quests also. I've just decided to go to the bottom of the quest list and do a few of the older ones I haven't gotten around to. It is so easy to get sidetracked on those quests.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/02/03 01:38 AM

Try a healer for the lizard scroll. The sword is in Iona's dungeon. The imp scroll is in the imp castle's dungeon on a rotten food pile.

lets see if we can get you those darn scrolls lol

imp scroll: check this screenshot for hte exact location

lizard scroll: from goemoe in the blue boar inn but you must have saved both soldiers in aleroth and you need to talk to him before doing council of seven quests

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/02/03 05:14 AM

You didn't think SHrimpo was funny, Syd? I about fell off my chair when he appeared. laugh By now you've probably put the treasure map together - and you need to look somewhere in the Dark Forest for it. If you need more hints, yell. It sounds like you are in the right place to get the other holy item - And by the way, you must go to the ceremonial place where you need to combine them before you go through the divine ceremony.Once you go through the divine ceremony (which you start by ringing that big gong)with the council of seven you can't go back to do quests or get stuff or anything!
And YAY to Row for defeating the evil Josephina - at least this time, hee hee. And great, Zanthia linked you to the map, so hope you can get your scroll!
Posted By: syd

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/02/03 06:42 AM

Shrimpo was funny looking but with those claws he took my head off faster than you can say "steamed" laugh

I just spent the last four hours going through Iona's dungeon - holy mackrel (in memory of Shrimpo) wink is that sucker huge and nasties coming out of the woodwork. It took me 45 minutes to kill that pink scorpion looking thing in the bottom. I still haven't found the other holy weapon so I guess I'll start from the top and work my way down again. I also missed the three chained barrels that would lead me to the nuthouse (and after spending four hours killing baddies - I'm ready for the nuthouse).

Haven't done a thing with the map yet but thanks for the tip on where to look once I have it together.

So you're saying to leave the ringing of the gong until last if I want to finish up my unfinished quests?

Anyway I'm going to take my tired mouse hand to bed - see you guys in the morning wave

Zanthia, thank you so much for that screen shot. I finally got that imp scroll. happydance I saw a cut scene of Goemoe leaving that inn. I couldn't ask him for the lizard scroll. <img border="0" alt="cry" title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" /> Does that mean I will never get it? There's no failure note beside that quest yet. I did ring the bell when I was first in the council rooms, mainly because it was there to ring! I do want to finish up so many of my other unsolved quests before finding everyone.

Here are some quests that I have missed. If anyone can help, please do.

How do you
-solve George's murder?
-restore Maria's reputation?
-solve the plague problem? Can't find the doctor or get into his house.
-is the bar fight winable?
-can't find the feign death potion (I thought I had it, but it wasn't the right potion)
-save the girl from the zombie?
-can't find dracula any more

These are just a thimbleful of unsolved quests. I had such a bad day today (see Mixed Bag) that I want a picnic in Divine Divinity today.

I did finish the Iona dungeons and killed that ugly thing. Syd, I thought you had killed him for me. wink
Posted By: nickie

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/02/03 10:59 PM

Wow, I hope I can answer some of those. In the poor graveyard where you saw the cutscene of Jake and the girl, I believe you click on a grave to get to Jake's lair. Be sure and save before you do that, as I don't know if the patch cured the previous glitch that wouldn't let you save once in the cave. Once down there, you have to kill Jake and his minions, and that will rescue the girl.
On George's murder, you have to learn who the police (?) suspect in the murders of the girls. You confront the guy (and I can't remember who it is, maybe the wine merchant), and he swears he is innocent, so you look around his house, going into the basement. You should run into George's killer there. Once you kill him (and he will have admitted his guilt) you can return and tell Mordaneus, which solves the quest. If you've already started the council seven quests, I don't know that you can have this dialog with Mordaneus. Before the patch, you also couldn't solve the quest if you stole the plant in the very beginning of the game.
Restoring Maria's reputation, you have to check out the logbooks in the merchant's house, which show that she was telling the truth. You confront Malcolm I think, and then you tell Maria about it.
To get into the doctor's house - there is a key to the house in the bushes on the south side of the house, I think. Or did you mean once you're in there, what do you do to get to the lab? You don't need to see the doctor to do the quest.
You get the feigned death potion from the priest at the cursed abbey.
Which bar fight do you mean? The one where a guy is friendly and challenging everyone, or the one where you have a quest that a guy in the bar sends you on, and you decide whether to side with him or the other guy?
Who do you mean, when you say Dracula?
Did you see the cutscene of Goemoe leaving the inn after you rang the gong? You have to have all the council members there for the ringing of the gong to take you out of that world, but possibly it made the cutscene happen, I don't know.
Sorry you had a bad day!

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/03/03 01:46 AM

I can remember some of these and back up Nickie on:
Yes, the wine merchant-go there
The Vampire in the cave-that the boy was at, is that the one you mean? You can do that quest now, and kill him if that's the one you mean.
Maria-that's what I remember about her, get the letter-I thought I had to take it to the head honcho in town, then back to Maria and he sends for her
Use the alt key pressed while walking around the Dr's house the key will be high lighted for you.
Isn't that the house, Nickie that once you're inside you have to go to the basement? Was there a puzzle area to it?
Good Luck getting that scroll

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/03/03 02:09 AM

Updates:
Saved the girl from Jake. That was such an old quest I had forgotten which cemetery to look in. There are so many of them in DD.

Mordaneus is locked in his house, and I can't find the way back in through the well. How do I get to speak to him now? At the beginning of the game when he was mad, I had gone down the well and through his basement, but now I can't find the ladder up to his hatch. Orcs had invaded Aleroth and had to kill them off.

I still haven't restored Maria's reputation. I can't get into the book room of the Merchant Guild. It is locked. What's the secret for getting in?

Locked doors seem to be my biggest obstacle. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="confused.gif" /> I can't get into some of the rooms in the doctor's house. Another locked door is in the cave with the vampire bat. I released the boy, but the vampire locked himself up and I can't get in to kill him.

I lifted the curse from the abbey, but can't find the priest to get that feign death potion from him. I have a "purple potion" and a "super potion" in my inventory but don't know what they are for. Gareth wasn't interested in them.

I meant the friendly bar fight for money. Maybe it's just a trick to get my money.

Syd, have you got most of your quests done? I'm trying to clean up some of the older quests now because I can't remember all the circumstances when they were given to me. It is so easy to get side-tracked in subquests before you can do the main ones. Have you met Josephina yet? eek

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/03/03 02:45 AM

row,

great that you go the imp scroll thumbsup

the friendly bar fight in the bar can be done--i did it. don't recall the details except you need a lot of strength.

the Mordaneus quest is one of the most broken quests in the game. i don't know if the most recent patch fixes it.

in the cave with the boy, you need to either use lockpick level 3 to open the door, or get telekinises level 2 to pull the lever.

the doctors house you mentioned is tht the one with the plague cure. if so opening the doors is a big puzzle by clicking on the lights in the proper order
Posted By: Zanthia

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/03/03 03:07 AM

row,

here's an update on winning the bar fight

drink lots of strength potions just before the fight so it is over 200 as you have to drop all your stuff.

if you can still can't win there is also a way to win that is an exploit but i won't say what it is unless you want to know.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/03/03 04:03 AM

Yeah Zanthia! bravo
I wasn't sure I was thinking of the right house.
I think also the room where the papers are kept might have been a puzzle also-something about the doors being opened in sequence, maybe? I may be thinking of another house. Lockpick was one skill I maintianed and kept my all my keys I found-but I was a thief lol
I was thinking Mordenus'key; wasn't it on the grounds somewhere? Maybe I locked picked it also, not sure now-drat. whistle

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/03/03 04:07 AM

Hi Row - I looked at my list and have 11 quests not finished.

-The Council of Seven (working on these now)
-Finding the treasure with the treasure map
- Solve the problems between the elves and dwarves
-Bar fight
-Wishing Well
-Bottle of wine
-Trapped friend
-Finding the location of a black market
-Finding out about Tingal
-Fight mountain trolls
-Potion for Cedric

I've actually done the majority of these, but I must have not done it in the order I was supposed to because even though they are showing not finished, I got the experience points. Like the bottle of wine - I know I did that because I got the dagger, same with finding the bandits and Tingal. I fought the mountain trolls but maybe I need to wipe them all out. And I found three people with the plague and could only cure two so I show one of those as incomplete. The one about the friend is the little girl's cat Cosmos - I released him but maybe there's something more I need to do. I know she mentioned something about a chicken coop - maybe I have to visit them all and see if I can find anything.

I just got the holy weapons blessed and have the one I chose. Now I'm off to try my hand at treasure hunting lol

No sign of Josephina yet and after reading what you guys have said about her - I'm not too anxious to find her either laugh

I don't think you can get into the book room in the merchant's guild until you restore Maria's reputation. Did you get the book from Malcom's house? You need to show the guild master the book and he then gives you free range of the guild plus that restores her reputation.
Posted By: nickie

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/03/03 04:15 AM

Row, the key to Mordaneus' house is in Lanilor's house, in the back on top of a piece of furniture.
On Maria's quest, the records are in Malcolm's house in the back room, also on top of a piece of furniture.I told you the guild before, and that isn't correct.
Have you done the ceremony with the three holy items - you need to do that before you become the divine one, because you can't go back and do it.

That simple neglect held up a bunch of quests in Verdistis. I even got to free the cat now as a result. I feel so dumb sometimes. Now I have to go and tell Maria the good news.

Row,
About that cow---if you buy the house in Verdistis, guess which house you will be getting? (After He is revealed for the crook je is.) In that case you would be needing the pooper scooper!!lol

Oh, Marianne. slapforehead If I had known I might get that house I would have been more careful with the cow! I will need a pooper scooper in my inventory.

Do you guys remember Finn? When I told him I removed the curse from the abbey, he offered to wash my undies as a reward! eek The nerve of the guy to think I was afraid clearing out that building!

I still need help with the following:
-finding the solution to the plague problem (can't get into the doctor's rooms)
-need to solve the Tingal mystery (Lt. Roberts just tells me to stop loitering; nothing was in the chicken coop unless I picked the stuff up a long time ago and unloaded it because of a heavy inventory - just can't remember what I picked up; and I still need to find Tingal's secret depot)
-need to get the Heart of the Dragon - the door to this room is locked and I don't know how to unlock it

Syd, have you found what Hugh's key belongs to?

Off to wash my own undies. rolleyes

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/04/03 02:19 AM

Update:

I got into the doctor's rooms and found 2 cures. I even tried to duplicate one back in Aleroth's pond but it didn't work. Had to settle for just 2. So my quest log doesn't show that the plague quest is finished. I wonder if I have to find Seth, the knight who told me about this problem in the first place, before it shows as a completed quest. Anyone remember where Seth is?

My quest log also shows the contaminated fields quest as incomplete. I've told Hugh about the orc that was poisoning the fields, told his wife too, broken all the poison barrels in the cave, but the quest still shows as not done. Any ideas of how I can show it as solved?

I am now on level 36 and have a reputation of 25. How high can the reputation number go?

Oh, almost forgot, I pulled the sword out of the stone in Dark Forest. I killed the demon many times, but he comes back to life! How do you put the sword back in the stone?

What does everyone mean by Wastelands? Are those the regions on top of the white cliffs? I don't know how to get up there yet.

How are ya doing, Syd?

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/04/03 02:44 AM

Row, you go to the Wastelands after the divine ceremony.
You needed to find out where that key fit from the cave in re the poison quest. Go to the inn (Blue Boar I think it is) and go to the basement - the key should fit a door there. Then talk to the bartender.
You aren't supposed to be able to solve the plague quest. There are always just two potions. However, if you have the pickpocketing skill, you can pickpocket one of the plague antidotes and give it to the third person - and then the quest will be solved.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/04/03 03:24 AM

Syd is still wandering around trying to find Goemoe the wayward Lizardman laugh I convinced Mardaneus and that teleporter stone stealing imp to join the council of seven but when I went to find Geomoe, Otto said he split - I think he must have gotten wind of my looking for him.

You have to put the sword back in the stone while the lights are still glowing around it. That way you trap the ghosty inside for ever and ever (or until you replay DD) lol

I made level 36 and have a reputation of 40 I think - lost a bunch when Janus booted me out of the castle - the schmuck rolleyes

Anyway I'm off to find that rat Geomoe.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/04/03 05:03 AM

Rowan need to find out who hired that orc. So need to find out what that key unlocks, also. Be sure to talk to Hugh first. Get to the Wastelands when you get blessed. Once there, can't complete any unfinished quests except if the teleporters are still missing. Not sure where you would find them there, but the quest did show up first time decided to try the blessing. Am up to trying the blond hair guy named M? and not doing too good. Can't use magic not even healing magic, poison weapon, protective, or traps without them disappearing on you. Syd go after some of the other members. Once you get a couple of them done, will let you get him. Can always do the easiest one for points--the wizard. Did anyone find the shrine that gives you what you deserve? Save game first in case don't like what you get.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/04/03 07:02 AM

Syd, on a couple of those you need to look more than once in the scrying stones.
Acornia, where are you? Do you mean you're fighting the black ring now?
Posted By: acornia

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/04/03 12:57 PM

Yes, got three of them done and working on the fourth. Like the way each fortress is color coded by a crystal. Gone up two levels just getting their favorite guards knocked off. Got most of them done in two others though left before finding out needed the ring member.

Oh, oh - this has me nervous eek You mean you can't use magic at the end? I haven't been developing my fighting skills a bit - and I really don't have any wonderful weapons.

What is needed to make it through the baddies at the end so I can start working on it now rather than later?

Of course you can, Syd. I used the disc spell (plus my trusty divine sword) until the very end.

Taking a bit of a break from the dreaded Josephina - arrrgggghhhh - there, I feel better now.
Posted By: Rowan

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/04/03 10:45 PM

So you found her! eek Isn't she something else? You can only kill her by minute degrees on her lifeline. I got to a point where I totally ignored that dreadknight she conjures up, and just repeatedly zapped her. I used that elemental strike on her. When my blue or red line got too low, up the ladder I went. The most tedious part was waiting for the bed to work.

Syd, how do you put the sword back in the stone? Do you have it in your hand as part of your armour? Or do you drag it to the stone from your inventory? I've tried both ways and haven't had any luck.
Posted By: nickie

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/05/03 01:01 AM

Syd, Josephina has got to be the toughest character in the game mad Keep at it though, and you'll get her.
Rowan, I'm not real sure why you cant put the sword back - maybe the stone needs to be lit up. Nothing happened when you clicked it? frown
Acornia, I remember that the guy was tougher than the other members except for Josephina, and didn't stay put, but I know I used discs against him. What did you try besides the scorpion traps?
Posted By: Rowan

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/05/03 01:25 AM

I put the sword back finally. I think I was just too slow the other times because the ghost kept reappearing and I had to rekill him again and again.

I finally was able to open that door to retrieve the dragon heart. The lever for that door was somewhere else in the dungeon area, not near the door at all. Is the Dragon Heart one of the holy items that I need to collect? I also have a special dagger. Is that one of the Holy items also?

I have sent 5 characters to the council already. I've just the dwarf and the lizard left. I've found the dwarf but he wants me to do something for him first. I don't want to continue with these guys until I clean up some of my earlier quests.

1) Anyone know where Seth is? I think I need to tell him that the plague is cured.
2) Where is Shrimpo?
3) Need to find the doctor. Hugh sent me to look for him. He is not in the sick area, nor in his house.
4) Need to find the Penumbra knife.
5) Need to find the courtesans.

Syd, have you found all of the dragon armour? I have the shield, but am not sure of the rest.

Acornia, how far are you? You are probably much further ahead and I wouldn't recognize some of your quests. Did you finish all your old quests before doing the council blessing?

So far my most powerful magic is elemental strike. I have it at level 3. I also like elemental hail.

Nickie, how many times have you played this game?
Posted By: syd

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/05/03 03:28 AM

Well I got Josephina finally. Sure did waste a lot of energy on those death knights. I finally just ran past them and concentrated on her.

I've found all of the council members but haven't hit the gong yet. I still have two quests to finish before I do that.

- The Treasure Map quest
- Find the necklace for Elean

1. I think you tell Commander Ralph about the plague. I don't remember telling Seth anything.
2. Shrimpo is found in the graveyard but you have to "call" him.
3. I never did find the doctor again after I got the cures.
4. You actually have the dagger - what you need from Penumbra is a book. Did you rescue her?
5. Can't honestly remember where I found the "women" I think it was in the cellar of one of the guilds.

I have three pieces of the dragon armor - the shield, belt and gloves. I think the dragon heart must go with the dragon armor because it wasn't required for the holy weapons. I have no idea where the rest of the armor is or even what it is laugh
Posted By: nickie

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/05/03 05:19 AM

If you have the dragon heart and all the dragon armor, it can be fixed into a special set by the armory guy in the dwarven city that is a part of the dark forest. Sounds like you both are about ready to become the divine one - congratulations! And..just once, Row wink

4 Find the dagger in the captain of the guards' office or the room where they keep the weapons. Know the magical lockpicks were on the desk.

5 Need to talk to Rob or the bartender to get the password and the location of the courtesans.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/05/03 02:53 PM

Got the dragon breastplate last night and the dwarven blacksmith told me to come back in the morning and he'll have it repaired. I think I took him literally because I went to bed after that. Somehow I don't think he meant "my tomorrow" rolleyes

Row when you picked up the dagger did you get a comment on the fact that it was part of "three and you had to sacrific two in order to get one"? (or something like that). If so then the dagger you have is one of the holy weapons.

I think I sorta have the general area of where to start looking for the treasure. We'll see.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/05/03 05:56 PM

Well, I got out of jail by invoking a heavenly gift. I had one skill left to choose and that worked. However, it really tarnished my reputation which is lower than I'd like it to be anyway, so I replayed from a saved game and avoided the jail trip. Anyway, now you all know an alternate way of getting out of jail.

I found the courtesans. Couldn't help feeling like a pimp. devil

Popcorneater, I found Penumbra's dagger. Mpenzak, the merchant who had his wagon burned, had it, so I bought it from him.

Corrina showed me how to summon a demon and then banish. I think that gave me the banish skill.

Syd, I have that holy dagger, but I don't have the other 2 items. Any hints about what they are and where? Syd, where did you find the dragon armour? I have 2 map pieces. Does anyone know the location of all of them?

I've found and released Goemoe, and have only the dwarf left. I still want to solve some other issues before getting around to him.

I need to find out about Tingalf.
I need to find Shrimpo. Haven't a clue what to do about him.
How do I find out who murdered the duke. That's still a mysery to me.

ingie,

do you realize what you just did with your last post. it was number 229 .

this thread has now beaten the old zanzarah thread of 228 replies and is now the longest thread on this board eek

how far will this one go!
Posted By: acornia

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/05/03 06:39 PM

On Tingalf, take the path that leads to the orc territory and should come across a broken down wagon. Do as they ask and when you return, this will set you on the path leading to Tingalf. Also pick up a couple more quests that will lead to him. About like the poison harvest quest except it's broken down more.

Shrimpo, in the cursed abbey graveyard, should find a circle (sort of) of gravestones. Need to read them all. I had to read them twice before he showed.

Duke's murder--need to join the assassin's guild and to do that need to do something for the rich guy who's name eludes me. But need to steal something from the other guy though don't expect to find out who paid the assassin.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/05/03 06:47 PM

Hi Row

Okay the holy weapons are : the dagger, an amulet (found in the Elven ruins - did you get the quest to find the elven artifact from those two guys on the side of the road in the Dark Forect? If so - the amulet is in that same unerground location), and the sword (this one took me three days to find - it's in Iona's dungeon) If you need the exact location - holler -

Dragon armor -
Gloves are found at the Elven Burial ground
Belt is found at Malcom's in Veredists - remember the house where you fell through the rotted floor boards? It's down there in a locked chest or cupboard.
Breast plate (just got this myself) you have to finish the dwarf quest before you get this one. Just make sure when you pick up the "evidence" you show it to the dwarf king first or he won't tell you where to find the breastplate)
Helmet - you get that from the dwarf king after you get the breast plate repaired) - this is the point I'm at right now.

Map pieces : one is found on the body of a dead man in the dungeons under Veredists, buy one off Mpenzak (the street vendor in Veredists), one is found on a table in the Spider cave, one is in a lokced room at the dwarven Halls. The room is tricky to find - it's in the extreme SW portion - as you head into the evil dwarves lair - look right - there is a locked gate - the map piece is in there. I had to increase my lock pick skill to 3 I think in order to get the gate open.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/05/03 07:17 PM

Thanks, Syd. What is the holy amulet's name? I have found so many amulets that I've cast many off because of weight of my inventory. I think that is one of the main problems I've had. I've found many things and then dumped them because of weight. <img border="0" alt="cry" title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" />
ALso feel free to give me the sword location. I just don't feel like searching 4 levels of dungeon again. frown Is this the Singer sword? I never found it. Are these identified items, or should I be picking up every single unidentified item?
Posted By: syd

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/05/03 07:29 PM

Finding the amulet would have alerted you just like the dagger, you would have been told it's one of three etc. - so you probably haven't found it yet. In the elven ruins underground you'll see a spider web - it's in there.

Okay the sword - go back into the dugeon through the pit in the graveyard (where you came up from the dungeon). Once underground head east then north. You'll find a skeleton hanging on a wall with a pentagram and a lit candle. Click on the candle (this is what threw me for three days) - it will open up a secret room. The sword is in there. And no this isn't the Singer sword.

I'm sure Syd and I will be banned from Zanzarra after DD is finished. Is that game as good as DD?

Ingie, I don't know which house you mean and which town you are referring to about the duke.

Acornia, I had talked to the wagon guys a long time ago and they got burned before I could bring them a wheel. But after that I have no more info other than Tingal has a depot somewhere, but can't find it.

Syd, I got the 3 holy items and am looking for the dragon items. So far I have the shield and the belt. Don't ask me where I found the shield. I just don't remember. I've been all through the elven ruins but can't find those gloves. I bet I had picked them up before and dumped them. Have no idea where that would be now...either in orc country or in the dungeons...hate the thought of traipsing through all that again. Are there dragon rings and a dragon amulet too? What about dragon boots and leggings?

Nickie, welcome as moderator with Zanthia. I hope I am not doing anything wrong by talking so much in this thread. Just zap me with one of your moderator bolts if I'm too much trouble.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/06/03 01:10 AM

Row do you get the impression that they think we blather a lot? lol Anyway, don't forget acornia is also playing this with us - well sorta - she's ahead, but still wink

Row, I think Ingie is talking about Sir Dante's house in Verdistis on the Duke's murder. Have you talked to him yet?

You're in the wrong place for the gloves. It's hidden in the burial grounds. The one that's past the elven village - there's a wooden mound that when you run your cursor over it, it lights up - the gloves are in there.

Nope, no dragon boots, leggins or other such stuff - just the items I mentioned (and that was according to the dwarven king and I figger he should know) laugh

Okay I finshed the treasure map quest - guess I was done, I found the treasure and the room with the tombstone and the teleporter stone which transported me back to the opening of the cave.

Now my only quest that I haven't done and it will probably stay undone is finding that dratted necklace for my elven lover (and at this point in time, he ain't worth it). I have no idea where to even begin to look so I think I'm just going to gather a few more potions and head back to the council of seven and hit that gong. May the force be with me evil
Posted By: Rowan

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/06/03 02:00 AM

I've been to both Sir Dante and Sir Patrick. Both have 1/2 their houses inaccessible. Using my elven sight I could look through the roof and see all kinds of wall levers in one of them. Telekinesis didn't work on them. I just can't get into the rest of the house. They are not giving me any info. I have to get hold of some important papers of one of them, but haven't got a clue if I can't get in.

Also haven't got a clue what to do about Tingal or where his secret depot is.

I cleaned out a second level of the evil dwarf cave. looks like there is another baddie who keeps diappearing on me. Is there another level that I missed?
Posted By: syd

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/06/03 03:09 AM

Row to get into the room to steal what you need from Sir Patrick's go to the west side of his house - look carefully on the ground - there is a portal stone halfway hidden (I can't remember exactly where it is). That will get you into the room.

There are only two levels in the evil dwarf caves. I'm trying to remember if this evil baddie froze me and then ran into another room or it was another evil baddie lol Anyway - there is a room that you need to find that has the Axe Stone in it. There is also another room on this same level with a pentagram that you need to find a manuscript that explains what happened (that's what you need to take to the dwarven king to offically get the dragon armor quest).

Arrgghh - I didn't write down where I found Tingal's stash. I think it was down in the sewers in Verdists. There were a bunch of bandits that I had to kill and I took a letter from one of them named Pedro (I think) I can go back down there and check - his body should still be there (unless the rats got to him) evil
Posted By: nickie

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/06/03 03:13 AM

On the side of one of those houses is a portal you can use to get in- it's hidden in the bushes. The papers you need are in that house.
In the sewers in the northeast end you should run into a bunch of thieves - one of them is Pedro- when you fight him, he will drop a note, and that is the evidence you need.
What do you mean about the dwarf cave - what is happening there that makes you think you're missing something? Remember that like Josephina, the Black Ring members are only temporarily defeated and they all do vanish.

Syd, if you really want to do the necklace thing and you haven't gone on already, you go to the jeweler in the dwarven halls, and he will make a duplicate from the picture of the lost amulet. When you take it back to your love, he/she doesn't have a clue it isn't the real thing.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/06/03 04:16 AM

There's also a depot outside the town that leaves a hint to finding the one in town. Don't know if you need to find this one or not. It's in a cave and only have to fight your way out once you find the evidence.

As for fighting the black ring, am down to using a sword and potions. Does the grey or purple potions that have black mesh on them do anything?

Sure hope I'm strong enough to get through this - I went from a level 38 mage to a level 43 once I got there.

Also - how on earth do you charm a weapon? Do you use the Charm weapon skill? And how do you get it to work if that's what you use? Also I've hear you guys talk about freeze on a weapon - how do you do that and what skill is it?

Syd, I've been trying so hard to catch up to you but I just can't. Have had some chores to do at home which keep interfering with my progress.

Anyway, I still have problems with some of the older quests:

1) Who murdered the old duke? Com. Ralph won't talk to me. As a matter of fact, he throws me in jail if I disturb him! I've gotten the title deed, and killed off some assassin henchmen, but my quest still says to talk to some assassin. I had found him in the merchants' archives but he left when he called those assassin friends of his. So I am still at a loss.

2) The Tingalf problem is still not resolved. I've found the cache with Pedro and the incriminating letter, told Lt. Robins and the Marcus the merchant. My quest says I should talk to Trevor but he is no longer in his house. So where is he now?

2) I've cured 3 plague victims but I should tell Seth about it. He was the knight in Aleroth who sent me on this mission, but where is he now so I can tell him? I think that would trigger the closure to that quest.

3) The poisoned field quest is still shows unfinished. Found the cave with the poison, found the orc responsible. And Dr. Elrath is behind it all and Hugh sent me to check out the doctor, but he has disappeared also. Where is he?

Something else that I still want to figure out is about 2 exits to other areas in the sewers of Verdisti. One exit is in the NE region and it leads to a locked door. The other is E by SE and it also leads to a locked door. I have lockpick 4 and I still can't open these doors. I don't want to forget about them.

Thanks again in advance for your help.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/06/03 06:49 PM

Syd, are you divine now? Do I have to bow and genuflect to you all the time now? laugh Funny that you met your husband in the wastelands. Didn't you meet me as a pig farmer earlier? evil

Freeze is a magic skill you can choose and it works by right clicking. You can only "charm" a weapon if it has charm qualities assigned to it. If it does, open your suit of armour window, left click on any charmable item, and another screen with holes pops up. Open your inventory and drag one of those round charms that you have been picking up into the slots.

To anyone: You know those terrace areas in the Dark Forest - are they accessible? I have been able to get into some of the little ones, but some of the larger terraced areas haven't been highlighted yet because I don't find any steps up. just wondering if this is normal or if I have been blind again.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/06/03 08:07 PM

No Row, there are areas that just aren't accessible.
Some of the problems with completing the quests may be that you did them in a different order than the game wanted you to, so you can't locate the people. For instance, you already did the plague quest, and that would have come after the poison in the cave one because the doc would be in jail.
Did you go in the Commander's room? If you did, he won't talk to you again, and so the quest probably can't be completed.
I think the locked doors in the sewers go to the castle.
Syd : do you have the divine sword? I think it has freeze on it, and works ever so much better than the freeze spell. It isn't a skill, it's just either on the weapon or not. And sure, you're strong enough now - that's why the game bumps you up in level. The Wastelands took me forever until I went back to a saved game and used the points to get the deadly disc skill - after that I went whipping through with no problem. Good luck!

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/06/03 08:25 PM

No I don't have the divine sword - where do you get it? Knowing me I probably dumped it somewhere or didn't pick it up. I have the Singer sword and the Nobleman's sword (the one I got as the Holy weapon).

I did up my deadly disk skill and have a few more skill points to use on charm if I can figure out how to do it.

Nope Row I'm not Divine yet so you can remain on your feet in my presence laugh I'm just a plain old mage that's having a devil of a time killing these nasty imps.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/06/03 08:59 PM

Syd,
You are Divine Now that was the ceremony thing and why you are in the Wastelands
Use the disc spell for a lot of little cowboy type things, you'll see in just a bit what we mean.
The charm a weapon-it is a skill maybe called enchant. It can only be done on those weapons or armor that have charm beside it .
You click on your armor inventory-what you are actually wearing. There will be round slots in the armor or weapon itself. 1-5 slots, depending on how many charms that item can hold.
If you have bought the enchant or charm spell(can't remember how it is called-think it's in the warrior selection)the slot(s) will be open, if not a big X will be over the slot.
If open place a charm into the slot-plop, it is now a charmed item.
Hope that helped.
CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING DIVINE

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/06/03 09:15 PM

I was just coming back to report that yes, my stats say I am the Divine One now (I don't feel any different) - sorry Row - looks like you will have to bow down before me laugh

I did play with the charm skill and discovered how to do it. I just don't have any nifty charms right now - I would prefer strength on my sword and shield but only have minor ones. Guess I need to trade them in for something a bit more powerful.

I'm so far using freeze and elemental hail on those little cowboy suckers - I'll try the disc when I get another bunch of them together. That imp shaman keeps jumping around and I'm having a time nailing his butt lol

Back to the fray.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/06/03 09:44 PM

I still don't know who killed the duke. frown What happened to the assasin that I was supposed to talk to? He just called his henchmen on me and left the merchant's guild. I've been wandering all over the place and nobody has anything important to say about this.

The dwarf concil member disappeared. I gave the axe back to the dwarf king. He didn't say anything about armour. The axe is back in its shrine, but no dwarf council member.

What do I do with the 3 holy items? I haven't found any clue about what to do with them.

I have the dragon shield, belt and gloves. Where are the other parts?

How do I put the treasure map together? I have 4 pieces.

Syd, I am so tired of running in fruitless searches, I will be too tired to bow to you.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/06/03 10:49 PM

Found the dwarf. He's at the council place now. I've got all 7. But no dragon armour other than what I already have.

And I'm still stuck on all the other things mentioned above.

Hey Row, happydance I did and did just fine-the flying disc is good and things are expensive in the Wastelands-those cowboy imps are a royal pain to the Divine one.
Unlike adventure, not every little detail need to be accomplished. The game goes on, it's yours. bravo

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/07/03 01:17 AM

Rowan, you take the three holy items to a tomb where you place them on the altars (three things are needed...) and you are asked what you want to have in return. The location of the place where you do this is in some bushes that are near the abbey -northeast side, I believe - you can't see it easily, but there will be steps in the bushes. While you are there, be sure and NOT touch the tombs, or it will wreck getting your item. I asked for the sword in return, for this seems to be the most useful.
As far as the assassin quest - I think I asked Sir Dante about it, someone correct me if that is not right. He agreed to arrange a meeting. The meeting took place in an abandoned house (in Verdistis) in the north part of town. When I got there, the assassin was waiting for me, and battle ensued. The assassin talks about the duke. You have a choice of telling the commander about it beforehand, in which case he will be waiting to help out if need be, or you can tell him afterward if you think you are strong enough on your own (and at this point you most likely are).
On the treasure map, you just drag the pieces over to each other. The treasure really isn't all that great though, but it's in a cave in the dark forest next to the mountains.
Syd, if you picked the sword when you gave the holy items up, you do have the right sword.
Remember Row, you don't have to finish all these quests if you don't want to! Just as many as you want to do. I would do the ceremony with the holy items though, so you can have a good weapon.

The leader of the assassins will have slipt out through a secret passage. Check out the cupboard in his room. Be prepared for henchmen.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/07/03 01:32 PM

I will go back to that cupboard. Thanks, acornia.

Syd, don't you worry sometimes that Josephina, that other guy who had the dragon heart, and anyone else who vanishes (instead of being killed) will show up altogether at the very end? eek
Posted By: syd

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/07/03 02:51 PM

Row I can tell you for sure they at least show up once before the very end and with this group I'll bet we see them at the big battle also.

I'm still wandering around the Wastelands killing imps, sand and devil demons and their minions. I'm supposed to be finding a black dragon but came on a dragon rider that zapped me into oblivion three times so I turned around and headed the other direction for awhile until I can figure out how to kill him.

Nickie, you are so right about the deadly disk skill - it's been a life saver for me. I did manage to level up once more and haven't decided what to use my other 6 skill points on. I did find the mithryl armor and am wearing that. Almost bought it but decided to wait a bit - glad I did because one of the sand demons dropped it - whew - saved me about 24,000 gold pieces. I also dumped the dragon shield. You guys were right - it damages way to easily and costs a fortune to fix. Still haven't charmed anything yet. Don't really have any good charms to put on anything.

And I see you have a cake Row - Happy Birthday laugh

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/07/03 03:26 PM

Thanks, Syd. Guess what I got for my birthday? Sssh!! Don't tell Nickie or the others. I got Morrowind and Zanzarah. happydance

I'm not at the Wastelands yet. I'm holding back from being blessed. I'm being stubborn about cleaning up some older quests first. I did finsh the duke's murder quest. Thanks to acornia for the secret cupboard tip. Commander Ralph finally talked to me.

I'm off next to find the treasure and then maybe I'll work on the holy weapon.

I've got about 8 unfinished quests left. Some I think are finished, but I'm just not doing some little thing to make them show as solved.

Rowan, happydance and I heard what you got for your birthday-yea!!
Glad you didn't listen to my advise, you sounded so defeated, I'm sorry, but nothing a good solving of a quest didn't cure. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="tongue.gif" />
Listen to Syd about the wastelands-that flying discs is the only way to battle through it-it makes a Divine think no one realizes they are divine and should show a little respect.
Actually they are funny in a pain in the tush kind of way!! devil
You three are good and great for each other and with Nickie and Zanthia'a wonderful memory and notes, shoot Josephina will be singing the blues

hi rowan,

happy birthday! you got some great games as birthday presents--lots of good gaming ahead for you happydance

as a fighter type character just using a little bit of magic i never used the deadly disk skill at all and had no problem through the wastelands. but i have heard it is a great skill and all of your comments here just emphasize that it is indeed true.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/07/03 10:30 PM

Happy Birthday Rowan! Those are some nice presents!
Syd, with some experimentation, you can hold down your mouse button when you click to use the disc spell, and it will go wider and longer, and really wipe 'em out!
Posted By: Rowan

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 02:30 AM

Well, hello everybody. Thanks for all your birthday wishes and most of all thanks for helping me struggle through this new type of game. I've saved everyone a piece of cake. Enjoy!

I didn't get to play much today, but I did manage to finally meet the doctor and settle that plague and poisoned field problem. Stubbornness to pursue that quest paid off. What I hadn't done to trigger that closure was pick up the note in the doctor's basement. So many times I've read these notes or clues but never put them in my inventory. So I just retraced my steps and did it. Boring to retrace, but satisfying to accomplish!

I still have to complete the Tingalf chapter, so I guess I will knock my head against a wall tomorrow.

Syd, you must be close to finishing soon. I'm looking forward to when I clean up these little quests so I can experience what you are doing now.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 03:41 AM

Thanks for the cake, Row, how nice! happydance Good for you for persevering and getting the quests done. You're right, it's those little details that can keep you from completing something when it seems like you've done everything under the sun. You should be very proud of yourself for doing so well - DD isn't a short game by any stretch, and the quests, as you well know, are numerous bravo

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 04:32 AM

Well Row I'll still be around the almost end game waiting for you.

I've made it inside the Dark Ring's lair and am now trying to find the first dark ringer lol All I've done for the last half hour is hop from one teleporter stone to another and not get anywhere but dead ends. I have no idea how to get to where I think I need to go.

Row I did the same thing you did - read those notes but never put them in inventory - had to do what you did - back track and pick them back up.

Not to worry, at the rate I'm going right now, I'll still be wall hopping when you get here.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 05:01 AM

That one particular castle (?) is confusing with all the teleporters, but I have confidence you'll figure it out in no time. So what level are you now, Syd?
Posted By: syd

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 05:18 AM

I'm at Level 45 1/2 and I'm not so sure I'm going to figure this out - I keep hitting dead ends but hopefully tomorrow I can see something I'm missing tonight.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 03:47 PM

I'm at level 38. I have been looking for that treasure map cave and can't find it. I've been looking around those cliffs on the Dark Forest between the place where the troll attacked me and the very top. Can anyone help me zero in on the exact location?
Posted By: syd

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 04:28 PM

Row it's almost to the top of the map hidden behind some pine trees. I think I found it in the second jut into the cliff.

I just killed Cornelius and made Lever 46 happydance and am now after Dark Ringer #2 (whoever is in the yellow crystal encapment)

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 04:39 PM

Row, do you remember where you met the urn collectors on the road? The cave is just northwest of that location, with a little ledge and trees/bushes.
Posted By: Zanthia

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 04:42 PM

row, syd is right in that the entrance is located near the top of the map. press ALT when you are near a tree to see the cave entrance as it is very well hidden. good luck!

syd, level 46--wow! you are doing great! you are almost at the end.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 05:25 PM

Syd, what did you use on Cornelius? Decided have to level up to get him. He knocks off way too many life points with that spike spell.
Posted By: Rowan

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 05:30 PM

Thanks. I found the cave entrance. You should see my biceps now. I had been moving every movable boulder along that cliff wall. eek

Now that I'm in the cave, I notice there is a region toward the SW that has many red crosses for baddies on my mini map. I just can't find the entrance to it. I've been looking for doors or movable wall but nada.
Posted By: syd

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 07:02 PM

Acornia I used good old maxed out Elemental Hail on Cornelius. Only took me two bouts (I teleported out once) with him to blow him into dust. As soon as I saw him I started clicking and kept at it until health was about 1/4 left then I high tailed it out of there for a rest - then went back in. I was actually surprised he went down so easily lol

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 08:38 PM

I'm still stuck in the treasure map cave. How do I get into the SW rooms? I've not found any movable part of the wall, and I've tried to put my personal teleporter over the wall but it won't accept it.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 09:51 PM

I'm trying to figure out just what you haven't done, Row. I'm guessing you used the lever when you first walked in. Have you done the thing where you pick up the crystals and put them on the altars?
Posted By: Rowan

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 10:09 PM

Nickie, I don't see a lever when you first come in. I have found all the other levers that open the locked doors. I didn't do anything with the crystal balls because my character keeps saying she can't use them. I did see 3 dishes with crystal balls and 3 dishes without, and one other one near where I can't get into those SW rooms. I have no door there.
Posted By: nickie

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/08/03 10:19 PM

Can you drag the crystals to your inventory? What you need to do here is gather the crystals and put them into the southernmost bowl. You can get to that bowl right? Let me know if you can't do that, and we'll try and figure out what you haven't done.
Posted By: Rowan

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/09/03 01:25 AM

Thanks again Nickie. The trick was using the crystal balls. I guess I was too trusting when the game told me I couldn't use them. Did you see the memorial to Sept 11th that the makers of this game hid in the cave? I thought that was a special surprise.

I have 4 unsolved quests left in my list. Theseare probably done, but are missing a trigger to recognize them as done:

1)To Rivertown - I found a letter in a cave that says the black market is rampant in Rivertown, and Marcus wasn't getting his wares. Talking to Marcus doesn't trigger anything.

2) Find the truth about Tingalf - Trevor believes that Tingalf is selling wares without a licence. Talking to Tingalf or to Trevor doesn't trigger the completion.

3) A bottle of wine - an exquisite bottle of wine is needed by Corinna. Pierce has sold it to Anthrabert who is a merchant living in the Ducal Inn. I've already solved the Corinna quest. I had found an exquisite bottle of wine in one of the inn rooms and given that to her. Can't find an Anthrabert.

4) The cellar was rented to Dr. Elrath - Need to find the doctor again to complete my conversation with him. Don't know where the jail is tat he might be in. Completed all else about the poisoned fields and the plague.

Any ideas of what the missing tiggers are? Otherwise I'm off to be blessed.

Also how much money will I need in the wastelands. I may just go on a selling spree to make money. Also what should I be stocking up on? Especially which potions and which skills and protections? I never did get the Dragon Armour quest. The dwarf king won't mention it and i have all the pieces as far as I know. Also what are the most useful charms to put in the armour?
Posted By: nickie

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/09/03 04:20 AM

Great!!!! Yes, I did see that memorial, thought it was a sweet touch.
You get the very best charms in the Wastelands, but they're expensive. If you have any charms now loose that up your spiritual stats I would keep them.Charms you have already put on stuff are stuck there though, and can't be taken off. You did get your teleporters back, right? (If you didn't, there are actually an extra set in the Wastelands).
As a survivor, you may be using different skills that are helpful to you, like the scorpion trap. For me, as a wimpy wizard, the disc spell was a must for getting through the ton of baddies (I could do it other ways, but it took ages). Potions are pretty much as plentiful there to make, if you have the alchemy spell - if not, I'd load up on potions. Several baddies drop mithral (sp?) armor that is really good there too.
Those two quests re Tingalf seem to be finicky in what order things are done in them. I had completed everything when I played as well, and the quest did not show completed.Anthrabert should still be at the inn, did you do an alt check for him? Sometimes the characters seem to sort of disappear.
I don't think you can find the doc again after the other quest, but I could be wrong!
Did you show the hammer that you recovered to the king, and he still didn't tell you about the armor? I guess you could try going to the armory guy in the Dwarven Halls anyway and seeing if he will "fix' it. But I had to dump it when I got to the Wastelands because it was too expensive to fix and it broke in every fight.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/09/03 05:53 AM

Well after an hour I finally got Iona - yeesh she was a toughie. I was pretty cocky after wasting Cornelius and Demona without much trouble, but Iona put me back in my place.

3 down 2 to go and then the real bad guy (I guess) laugh

Row to get the king to mention the Dragon Armor you have to give him the note that's found in the tunnels that implicates Gregor (I think that's the mayor of the Dwarven Village's name)

I had the same quests as you that were shown as unfinshed but I know I got the experience points so I decided not to worry about it.

About the only thing I did was try to get as many potions as I could - I stocked up on Magic and health. Still haven't used any of them yet - I'm using the teleport and sleep method still.

Nickie is right - the dragon armor is junk and it costs a fortune to fix. I left most of it at the council of seven and wore a silver breastplate until I found the mythril breastplate - it's much stronger.

Have fun in the Wastelands oh soon to be Divine One laugh

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/09/03 04:14 PM

Well, Syd, here I am ready to join you in Wasteland. I decided to forget about those remaining quests in Rivertown. Since I couldn't put Tingalf in jail, I decided to trade some stuff with him. Nothing like being a good survivor that I am and taking advantage of a situation. evil Basically I'm just exploring my surroundings and making my way across to that black lake.

Syd, are you finished yet? Acornia, are you finished? BTW, what happened to levels 39-42? I jumped from 38 to 43. Does anyone playing this game actually get into those missed levels? Maybe someone who has killed every single beastie. I know I missed a lot of corpses in the northern sections.

Are there any teleporter stations as in the first area? Haven't found any. So far I'm using my personal teleporters just to keep my stash in one place. Whenever I find something that might be of value, I zoom back to Kroxy's house and litter his yard for later use.

Haven't had time to play. Think am going to level up some first before trying to tackle Cornelius again. Think he's the last one before the big baddie. Been using the repair skill on my dragon armor and not bothering with having to get it fix though probably will when get to the last battle.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/09/03 08:10 PM

I just got the last mini baddie - Josephina is history - again lol I'm now on my way to the main baddie of them all and the fortress he's in sure looks like a big one.

Row I don't remember any teleporter stones in the Wastelands - I used my trusty 'ole portable teleporter stones - still am laugh

syd, if you got the last mini baddie, the final boss will be a piece of cake. the worst is over.

row, if you need to get somemore charms buy them from kroxy rather than the shaman as the shaman has much higher prices. josephina is the only difficult battle in all of the wastelands. there will only be a teleporter stone if you arrive at the wastelands with one. there is also an excellent sword to be found in the wastelands.

Is there a DD2 and a Riftrunner? Or, is DD2=Riftrunner?

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/10/03 02:27 AM

I finished at Level 48 and 3/4. Not sure how high you can go. I didn't kill everything I saw so I could have gone higher -

Sure was hard leaving all the loot sitting around inside the Dark Ring's lair but I just didn't see a need to be lugging it all around.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/10/03 06:06 AM

bravo All right, Syd!!! Not such a wimpy wizard after all!
Most people end the game around level 45-50 at the highest if they play without cheats, although there are exceptions, of course. There are only a certain number of quests to be completed and monsters to be vanquished.
Riftrunner will hopefully be out at the end of the year, and DD2 will be out some time next year. They're working like madmen eating cold pizza and drinking warm beer trying to get Riftrunner out as we speak laugh

Aw Row,
Know just how you feel. frown
But, on the bright side did I not hear that you got Zanzarah and Morrowind for gifts?
Zanzarah is a wonderful game-totally different from anything I ever played and my 2nd RPG ever played!
I tried other games when I finished DD, being the Adventure game player I thought I was-but it just couldn't fill in that gap. devil
Let us know how you're doing, you'll be done so soon laugh

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/10/03 01:02 PM

Thank you, thank you [syd bows to her adoring audience] laugh Yep, I have to admit I'm pretty darn proud of me for finishing.

My son said I had to play Anachronox next so I loaded that in last night. We'll see how it goes.
Posted By: nickie

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/10/03 05:43 PM

Syd, I think you'll enjoy Anachronox, which is so heavily story based (except maybe the arcade sequence at the end. Can't tell you how many times I goofed that one!) Don't let the somewhat slow beginning put you off, as it does pick up. What am I saying, it plays like an adventure game.
lol
Row, I sure understand that. You spend so much time developing your character, that it's difficult to say goodbye. frown

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/10/03 08:46 PM

What are these special potions for: purple potion, grey potion, and super drug?
Posted By: Zanthia

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/10/03 08:56 PM

syd, anachronox is a great game to play next. the end sequence at the end isn't too bad and I wouldn't really call it arcade but the hive mini game is a horror( had to have jerry do the hive game for me). keep your son handy for that and possible the river run. aslo even with the last official patch there were still lots of bugs remaining. you may wnt to consider downloading the unofficial patch that was recently released.

row,

purple potion: temporary resistance

super drug: +100% poison resistance at the cost of -100 spiritual resistance

gray--maybe someone else wiill know
Posted By: syd

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/11/03 12:32 AM

Hi Row -

I have no idea what the gray potion is - I had some kind of secret potion but never did find out what it was for. I also wound up not using a single one. I just kept teleporting in and out and sleeping it off lol

I've played about 15 minutes of Anachronox and so far have managed to give poor Sly a severe headache from running him into walls (shades of Grim Fandango here). If the guy wasn't already sporting a black eye, he would be now for sure laugh
Posted By: nickie

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/11/03 06:13 AM

I don't know what the grey one is either, I just know don't take the super drug or you'll be sorrrry laugh
I'm sure glad to hear it wasn't just me on that last part of Anachronox. Jeepers, but I went round and round on that thing - I got to know some of those little buzzies on a first name basis. wink Syd, ol Boots wasn't too pretty to begin with, so he won't mind!

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/11/03 11:51 AM

Oh good! someone else has trouble with "walls in the way" in Anachronax. After colliding with a wall I would change direction and inadvertently start going back the way I had come. It took me ages to get through the junk yard because of this.

I didn't think I would solve the river run by myself but once you have mastered the beginning of it, the last part was surprisingly easy.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/11/03 02:15 PM

Demona, Cornelius, and Iona are history. 2 more to go and then the finale! In advance, what skill will work the best on Josephina. I am assuming that there will be no handy ladder to whisk me outta there for refuelling.
Posted By: syd

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/11/03 02:41 PM

Congratulations Rows laugh I had more trouble with Iona than the other 4 I think. I just used Elemental Hail on Josephina and kept my trusty teleporter stone right next to me so I could get the heck out of there at a moments notice. It took a while since I was kind of far away from her but if you go in blasting away she doesn't have time to call up one of her death knights. Good luck
Posted By: Rowan

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/11/03 04:08 PM

Moriendor down, Josephina left to go. Syd, I'll get my teleporter ready. Don't you just hate waiting for the bed to recharge itself?

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/11/03 04:22 PM

Actually I found that part to be quite useful - that's when I did my housework lol lol

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/11/03 05:09 PM

I'm having difficulty with Josephina. <img border="0" alt="cry" title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" /> The deathknight gets in the way and she changes position. Then I have trouble targeting her. Then I die..over and over and over and over and over again. <img border="0" alt="cry" title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" /> I can never drop that teleporter in the right spot. I die before I reach it. Are there any more strategies to overcome her?
Posted By: nickie

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/11/03 05:14 PM

Row, I took a black potion to get right next to her, hit her with the divine (nobleman's) sword to freeze her, and then kept hitting her with the disc spell, which also kept anything that happened to come up at bay.
Posted By: Zanthia

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/11/03 05:22 PM

row,

i just used a sword with freeze on it( not the spell)and hacked away.

i have also heard that blind works wonders too.
Posted By: popcorneater

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/11/03 07:15 PM

Yep,
I remember doing the invisible potion, hit her with blind and slashing away, I had better luck stopping saving, juicing up and doing it again. She's a nasty thing isn't she? devil

way to go Row bravo

On the telporter, would just keep it in inventory and use the drop and use option then won't have to worry about reaching it.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/12/03 03:53 PM

Well I'm playing Anachronox (sorta - it keeps freezing on me - seems to hate my sound card) and just loaded in Morrowind and had to tweak a bit to get it going. Problem with Morrowind is I don't have a manual so when I got to the "choose who you want to be" screen I had no clue so I thought I'd ask for help - I did play around with the faces though laugh

I'm even teaching myself to use my left hand to run the keyboard while my right hand steers the mouse - Yep, I'm learning to multi-task lol lol

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/12/03 05:16 PM

Hey! What happened to the smilie clapping his forehead! I was just going to use him and say gosh Syd, Morrowind? I believe Mags is going to have to get a dedicated server for people playing that game lol lol lol Oh no! I'm getting the urge to load it devil

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/13/03 01:24 AM

Syd,
Just added a post to a strand that Zanthia gave 2 great websites for Morrowind that might help you out since you don't have a manual...check it out.

Oh good Nickie, I hope that urge comes in strong, calling all the computer gremlins to urge you on. lol
What did happen to that little guy-he was useful

lol Ingie, I have a few what I suspect will be shorter ones to play first. But I sort of think you guys will still be playing when I get to it, and then you can give me advice laugh

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/13/03 02:04 AM

First I would like to thank everyone in this thread who helped me grow from a weak survivor to divinity. If it weren't for Nickie, Ingie, Zanthia, Acornia, and my fellow adventurer, Syd, I may still be in some dungeon somewhere. I hope I haven't missed anyone. You guys really made me feel confortable in a new forum.

Not sure if you all want to hear this, but I just loaded Morrowind. laugh The music is wonderful. I'm still just experimenting. Syd, if you want to join me, give me a shout. Zanzarah is giving me a headache now, so I may put that one on the shelf for a while.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/13/03 03:08 AM

row, it was a pleasure to help you in DD in any way possible. i loved reading about your experiences in the game especially since you are new to the genre.

morrowind and zanzarah are very different games. change your video drivers as suggested in the other thread and it will make a huge difference to you. if it is still giving you a headache and we can't help you out then move on to another game. there are so many great rpg's out there wiating for you to play them. whichever game you end up playing you know will have a lot of help and support in playing.
Posted By: nickie

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/13/03 07:26 AM

Likewise Row, it has been a pleasure. I'm just excited for you that you are discovering new games and having fun with them, and it's great to have you sharing your experiences! And Zanthia is so right - playing a game is not supposed to be a chore and you don't get tested afterward, so if you don't like something put it away for another day (or not).

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/13/03 03:37 PM

I want to add my thanks to Row's. I had a blast playing DD and it just added that much more to the fun playing it virtually with Row and Acornia, and having nickie, Ingie and Zanthia standing there with the help and commentary laugh

I would love to play Morrowind with you Row [I can hear the board groaning already] lol I have the game loaded and have played around with it a little bit but I can get serious about it anytime you're ready.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/14/03 11:44 AM

Rowan and Syd wave
How kind you are to include your thanks to this one who needs to thank you all for the sharing of a great adventure-It really pulled on the memory cells and heart strings. Since that too was my first RPG it will always be the one I look to for a jolt of energy. What fun to play it again through the 3 of you.
Acornia, have you finished?
Now, as for Morrowind, come one in, the water is fine! So much to do, if like me you will find yourself there for 2 hours and think it was 15 mins.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/14/03 01:25 PM

Not yet, real life intruded. Was off a week and thought would get it done then but wore myself out worrying about test results and my parents. Mom got stuck overnight in two different hospitals and got to spend most of each day in one of them. And still docs have no idea of what is causing the chest pains. Dad and I both think it has to do with her diet as she has acid reflux. Been sleeping more since went back to work as work nights. Guess been trying to make up that sleep deficit. Think just got one more dark ring member to go before the big baddie.

Re: New to RPG - Divine Divinity - 07/14/03 03:23 PM

Sure hope everything goes ok for your Mom, Acornia, and you can get that much needed sleep.
