PainKiller Discussion and Help - 04/17/04 01:29 PM

Wow! What a dynamite FPS. Its fun, its frantic and has super dynamite graphics and sound.
If anyone else besides Linda and I are playing this game lets use this thread for help and discussions.
OK then, I am stuck. I am on Chapter 1, Level 5. I am in this hugh spacious graveyard with this hugh monster. He breathes tornadoes at you(talking about a trip when you get caught up in the tornado). The graphics are so cool you actually feel like you are in the tornado. Anyway, At this point I have 4 weapons and he does not seem to take damage from any of them.
If anyone has gotten there yet, please give me a hint on what to do. Linda?

johnboy,

what is the save situation in the game. i looked at the official forum and got confliciting info there. at one time i see mention of save anywhere then i see mention of save spots. so does the game offer you a choice then. if you can save anywhere does it load at the point where you saved from or from the closest save spot.

There are "save points" every so often in the game. You can, however, save where ever you want, using the load/save feature, or just simply by pressing the QuickSave key (F4 is what I use).
There are still problems with the game as many cannot get it to launch on their systems. There's a copy-protection built in, and DreamCatcher is catching all kinds of hell for it because you're suppose to uninstall all copying software before you install the game to bypass the copy-protection. People are upset, and rightfully so in my opinion. There's also a "no-cd-crack" engine.dll file you can download and copy over the original engine.dll with, but that didn't work for me. The DreamCatcher's patch didn't work for me, either. I just uninstalled and reinstalled, updated one NVIDIA driver and I was playing the game.

Johnboy: I'm on Chapter 4, Level 2 now and loving it. Playing in DayDream level the first time, and not worrying about finding all the "holy items", secrets, etc. Will go back and do that at a later time. Right now, though, I'm just checking it all out. The bosses are a pain in the rear to beat, but DreamCatcher's Painkiller "General" forum has some spoilers and hints on how to get past all the bosses on all the levels. Check it out.

Back to the game....

I also am playing thru, not worrying about collecting souls, artifacts, secret areas, etc. After I complete it I will wait a short while and play it again, on "insomnia" again, as this is hard enough for me. Concentrating on all the aspects of the game. Its terrific! And as Linda has stated the save system couldnt be better. Save when ever you want. Thats the way it should be. thumbsup

Re: PainKiller Discussion and Help - 04/20/04 01:23 AM

Just started Chapter 4 and I am having a blast! How you coming along Linda? I really liked the Boss in the Ruins. He was frickin' cool! Could not figure out how to kill him so I did look for hints on the PainKiller forum and found just what I needed to know.

Re: PainKiller Discussion and Help - 04/20/04 01:57 PM

Stuck on chapter 4 level 1, the castle. I ve killed all the skeletons upstairs and downstairs. Ive exhausted all means of getting out. Both doors downstairs are closed off. I thought maybe there was an enemy I missed but not a one can be found. However I seem to be able to hear one. Unless its coming from behind one of the closed doors. I am getting a little frustrated trying to figure out what Ive missed. Linda if you are out there, Help!

Re: PainKiller Discussion and Help - 04/20/04 09:17 PM

When you're walking around on the UPPER floor of the Castle, walk in a clockwise direction, hugging the outer wall. There's a secret area there. You'll see a doorway (huge, tall archway) that leads off to the left, down some steps. There's a monster there, and some secrets. That must be what you're missing.

I'm on Chapter 5, Level 1: City of Water...Saved this morning, just as I entered that level.

Re: PainKiller Discussion and Help - 04/21/04 04:00 PM

Well I started the last chapter this morning. Chap. 5 level 1. Cant wait to get home to play. I will probably finish the game tonight. I am having so much fun with this game I hate to see it end. frown Linda I guess you've finished the game. I know you enjoyed it. Who wouldnt! thumbsup Unless you hate FPS's. Need to decide what to play next. Getting kind of tired of adventure games. They really are boring after youve played something as frantic and fast paced as PainKiller. I am thinking maybe Chrome, Halo, or Far Cry. Anyone has an opinion?

Re: PainKiller Discussion and Help - 04/22/04 01:39 AM

Well it dont look like I will finish tonight after all. Stuck again! I am at the docks in Chapter 5 and am lost. Been everywhere and cant find anymore open gates to move on. They are all locked. I am obviously missing something. I need your help Linda. If indeed you passed this area.

Re: PainKiller Discussion and Help - 04/22/04 08:25 AM

I'm not real sure where you are in the Docks. I know that if you can go UP on the ramps somewhere you might look down and see where the next "step" or area is you need to go to. There are several elevator lifts that have the "red" pentagram to step into.

Johnboy, from what I have heard and read, Far Cry is supposed to be the best FPS game ever made. The graphics alone are getting quite alot of attention.

Re: PainKiller Discussion and Help - 04/22/04 07:28 PM

I have been wandering for hours and cant seem to get anywhere. The last red pentagram was way high up. Got stuck up there and did not know where to go. Walked the metal beam and jumped onto a building and got the shield and the ammo. Jumped onto another building and finally back on the ground. Every gate is locked and I cant find where to go. I guess Ill just have to hang it up. There is nothing left for me to explore. duh

Re: PainKiller Discussion and Help - 04/22/04 11:15 PM

Finally! I am in the "old monastery". The art work is incredible. I am near the end of the game but each level gets harder and harder so its taking me longer than I expected. I thought I was going to finish the game last night.
And I'll take Rusty's advice and play Far Cry next.

Well I am stuck in the old monastery. thumbsup

Re: PainKiller Discussion and Help - 04/23/04 03:26 PM

Well I thought I killed everything. frown I fell off a ledge and wound up in this cave. eek There were monks in the cave and yes I killed them. laugh But the caves led to nowhere. duh Finally figured out how to get out of the caves, rolleyes but I cant for the life of me figure how to move out of this level. Linda?

Re: PainKiller Discussion and Help - 04/24/04 03:53 PM

Well I am approaching the end finally. Found my way out of the old monastery and am now desending into hell, where I will have to defeat the ole devil himself, Satan. I read that the last battle was easier than some of the other bosses. Sure do hope so! Wish me luck!

Re: PainKiller Discussion and Help - 04/24/04 04:00 PM

The end ISN'T the easiest in MY OPINION! You need to shoot the bolders BACK AT LUCIFER. Instead of shooting away at him (when you're in demon mode), shoot the arrow/spear from his hands. Then shoot the arrow/spear at him, as well as trying (the best you can) to shoot the bolders he shoots at you, BACK AT HIM!

Re: PainKiller Discussion and Help - 04/24/04 04:01 PM

Finished playing in DayDream level and now have started with the Insomnia level of games. Still using cheat codes (God mode, ammo, weapons) to make it through.

I think I'll reload the DayDream/Hell chapter and try the arrow/spear thingie with Lucifer...
