Is anyone playing Psychonauts? Hope so cause I am stuck

I am locked or trapped in what appears to be a cockpit. Does anyone know how I get out?

Ingie its really a lot of fun and real cutezy! But its definitely very platform. I am using the mouse and keyboard and it's not that bad however Ive heard its a lot easier with a game pad. I ve bought so many gamepads for my computer throughout the years and never could get used to them, always go back to keyboard. I want to know how many tries it takes you. It took me about 10 tries to get it.

Stuck again. I cant figure out how to swing from pipe to pipe. When I let go I drop down instead of going forward to grap the next pipe.

I am now on the scavenger hunt and have 16 items to collect to raise my rank. I have been roaming around for 30 minutes and have not found 1 item yet. This game is just too cute. Im having a blast.

Well Ingie, I only found 2 of the scavenger hunt items and finally found my way to the lab where I start more training. I suppose I can go back later to find the items to raise my rank. There are travel ports that let you go back and forth to worlds you have already visited. There are so many things to grab in this game and a lot of the items I just could not figure how to get to them. And I also need to figure out how to deal with large beasts. Punching them does not seem to do any good and its the only defense I have at the moment, that I know of. Well Ill just have to wait for you to catch up tomorrow. I am through for the night so I wont play any more until tomorrow night. Maybe by then you will be close or ahead of me.

It's going to get my full attention, I'm ready for it, been reading a bit more about it..and plan on reading some more now ... too tired to play WoW ..
So, I'll be trying to prepare for battle tomorrow..
can't wait, this game is really cute.

Also, some items, such as Psi cards and scavenger hunt items can not be reached until you learn new spells that will help you get to them.

I am pretty far along in the game so give me a yell if you need some help.

I am at the punch bowl I guess it's called with the 2 cheerleaders..what's the clue to staying centered on the target? With each jump I'm off the yellow target area and can't get back on fast enough and get set to face the new thing to blow up.
any suggestions??

I loved the mine fields and the bouncing nets..

Also, I can't figure out how to start a new game.
I wanted to start over since my controls are a bit better now or I should say I'm a bit better at the controls.

And...for those that didn't know..you can save at any time. There are spots that are automatic for you, when you complete a task, that way, if you're really into the game, you won't have to worry about forgetting to save and having to start over if you mess up the next section..
Got the kid through the mind fields, and I loved the flag pole idea, very good!

Punch Bowl? Am I missing something? I remember my encounter with the cheerleaders up on that platform thingie. I was cracking up making them do more cheers for Raz. They were too cutez! Did you do the punch game yet?

Oh! Centered on what target? I must have passed that up. Cause I dont remember having to stay centerd on any target except for the one to start the punch game, and once it starts you dont need to be on the target anymore.

You have to jump and then hit it kind of at the same time - this gives you a power punch.

To start a new game use the space bar - not the game pad (well, I couldn't figure it out on a gamepad), have Raz run over the brain and there will be 3 doors - New, etc.

I kept running through the mine fields too fast and kept blowing up. This first level is a great place to practice all the moves you're going to need to use later on.

Sorry Johnboy, that area where the cheerleaders are..you jump and punch..I didn't know I should be running at the target guys, thought I had to stand on the yellow spot and I not getting anywhere fast with that.

Edit Here: Thanks Kim, I got through the area, much easier than what I was trying to do, took a little trip with the transport guy, is he cute or what? Now I'm dodging bullets..from some kind of gun, knocking down walls as I go..this game is cute..

When I first started the game and this part I didn't realize that you could punch objects for arrowheads and health. In the area you are currently in you can punch the snowmen and clumps of snow to get objects. It's also funny to try talking to the animals like the bunnies in this area.

Didn't try to talk to the animals, but I found health that big blue + in the clumps of snow..
I'm now throught cannon(that was a cannon shooting at me!?) and in the next section.

I just went through the brain tumbler experience in Sashas underground lab. I met up with a creature and I was pulled back into the lab by Sasha. I asked how to kill it and was told I need some sort of permit from general somebody to continue on that quest and must say Ive been lost since then. I obviously need to board the tram and backtrack to find the general to get the permit. I dont remember who he is or where he is. If hes the guy with the pear shaped head in the beginning of the game at the camp, which is who I thought it was, I saw him and he said nothing about a permit.
Kim, A clue please. I am really trying not to use the WT.

Well I have to tell you all..this game has got me hooked.
I played it this morning and didn't want to stop.
Oh Johnboy, that punch thing..until Kim said I could walk toward the things popping up I was horrible. I kept thinking I had to jump back on the circle I did that over and over and over..came on here, posted help please. Got the answer went back and about 5 or 6 tries.
I started over on another game..Realized I went through the kids cabin area too fast, missed a lot.
Found a bunch of arrowheads, PSI cards and a lot of stuff to prepare for what's ahead like the bouncing nets-don't you love those things? and
swinging on a limb...overhearing conversations,
and opening the "johnny" door..
Anyway, I went on back in the brain of the warts..what a toad he is..and was able to do much better..got the figments this time, did the punch in 2 tries..went through the gunfire and got the snowmen..and clumps for the mental health..lots of it.
I stopped at the pole swinging wall. Didn't have a bit of problem first time, this time..can't figure it out so I stopped for a bit.
This game is addicting..and darn cute.
I love the little girl with the nightmares..
and I got the little boy through the minefield this time..last time I didn't think I'd ever get him there.
It really helped just taking my time in the camp area before heading into the brain.
Know Kim will send you the help you need..

OK I got the permit. I am in the shooting gallery. Sasha keeps telling me I am a good shooter but I am not using my mental lock. I cant figure out what the heck he is talking about. So I have to keep starting over. Kim? Where are you?

OK I got stuck there also, you need to change direction by pressing the "f" key. I think its the "f" key. And then you should swing in the right direction.



Do you find the camera angles annoying at times. I mean like objects getting in the way of your view? I need to fool with the camera angles and see if it can be adjusted.

Yes I do find it annoying, but I made it worse and put it back to default.

f key, well now it had to be a mistake the first flip through then cause I went swinging up that wall like regular monkey.. ...my reflexes are so slow..but actually the more I am playing the better I am getting some things are coming along really better than I thought. I don't like it though when I have to run and can't angle Raz right..camera thing I know..I may fiddle again with it..but I really was in trouble last time.
But it does get tiring to have an old tire or piece of junk in my line of sight.

johnboy - I'm using a gamepad so it might be different but I think Sasha is talking about locking on to your target before shooting at it - this makes it a lot easier to hit them. Targeting with mental focus - hold down the left shift key while shooting.

I guess you guys play at night so I will try to check the boards at night - I usually play in the afternoon when my daughter is napping (I am so lucky - she is almost three and still takes a really long nap).

I loved riding the rails and the little sparks that come up behind Raz. The game does make me a little dizzy and I feel like I am always going to be falling off the edge.

And I think the camera is the weakest part of the game - often I'm trying to line myself up and an object, usually behind me, blocks my view.

Some advice - master the fast shooting and the pole and rope swinging, etc. because it gets a lot harder later in the game.

I thought I was finished with the shooting gallery when Sasha came and congratulated me but to my surprise there is a part two. I just wasnt brave enough to continue at that point so I saved my game. Now I am worried when I go back to play this evening that I'll have to start at phase one of the shooting gallery. I am hoping it saved after the completion of the first phase. It was fun but I dont think I want to do it again right now. Ingie its so wild! You are on this large white cube floating around in "mind space" You have a mission to complete while all these men in suits come charging at ya. Its like there is no gravity cause you can walk around the cube without falling off and the graphics are so cool in this area. Have fun! I am.

Did you complete the pipe swinging?

Well I think I may have to use a cheat. I am getting frustrated with the second part of Sashas shooting Gallery. At least it did save at the start of part 2 and I did not have to do the first part over. I believe Rusty said there were cheats for the game. I'm off to hunt them down.
Well Since there is no god mode cheat, I dont see where there would be a need to use the others. Getting killed is the problem and you can still die with all the other cheats available so why bother.

Isn't the "infinite lives" cheat the same as god mode? Maybe not...

Rusty. I think, but I could be wrong, infinite lives means that you have 9999 lives but you can still die. However it would have an advantage cause you would not have to go through the game resetting when you run out of lives. I was looking for a god mode that lets you take hits with no damage so I could make it through the part I am having trouble with. Infinite lives are no good if you cant make it to the end of the level.

OMG. There are 4 parts to Sashas shooting gallery. And then there is a boss you have to take on. What am I going to do?

Just keep trying I guess.

Rusty, I cant even get the cheats to take to see what they do. The instructions are to vague as too how to activate them.

Finally got it. On to stage 3.

I'm glad you got it - it is a hard fast paced section. Later on you can go back into the brain tumbler to revisit all the levels to pick up the figments and objects you missed the first time. When you are at a higher level and have more skills the earlier levels are easy - plus there is no boss to fight.

I tried the cheats as well to see what they did but I couldn't get them to work either. It seems like a number of people are having the same problem.

How did you finally get through the level?

I just kept at it. Although I must admit I was about to call it quits and uninstall the game.

Now I am having trouble with stage 3. I roam around killing all those crying fireball babies and when my health is good I climb the stairs and I miss that jump to the platform everytime. I am usually good at jumping so I cant figure out why I cant make it.

Well I'm where I was in the old game.
Swung my way to the platform on the pole swing wall..but can't figure out..do I want to try and jump on the net? If so I miss it every time..not sure what I am to do..there is a ledge below but I miss that also and into the abyss I fall.

Y'know, in every Zelda game since A Link to the Past, "bombable" wall-sections have always been represented by large, circular webs of cracks in a wall...

This isn't a Zelda game, and you don't have any bombs...but you should look for one of those, Ingie.

I was stuck there for a while also. I kept jumping on those floating abstract blocks only to find out there was no place to go. I saw the wall and thought maybe if I... Its now history.

I think that puzzle had me stuck for a good 10 minutes or so the first time I played...

I even tried a few sideways jumps onto those gear-shaped platforms in the distance...which would have worked fine if there wasn't an

johnboy - have you jumped to the top yet? I found doing a double jump made me go higher if I hit jump and then hit jump again while I was in the air. And I don't quite remember but can you hit the target without being at the top of the platform?

inge - I decided early on in the game if I couldn't figure out what to do next to just go ahead and punch something

I reached the last battle yesterday but a message came up that said 'autosaving - point of no return' so I decided to stop and go back and try to collect all the psi cards and scavenger hunt items that I hadn't done already. I'm not sure if I can go back into the brain tumbler and do the previous sections to find all the figments, etc once you do the last past of the game so I am going to try that as well.

Yes I made it to the top and slided down the rail to the next platform and two of those mad men in suits were waiting for me and zapped me. I have not seen the target yet. I know on the first two I was able to shoot the target from a distance. I was so curious to see what was up there I forgot to look for the target. Wish I had more than one life so that the game would not have to keep resetting. Did you ever find out anything about the cheats and how do I get more lives?

I am scared to death to say this but please ignore. I posted the above twice and dont remember doing it.

kw, I know from testing it that after the "point of no return" section of the game, you can't return to the "real world". Ever.

You can, however, still access the entire mental world, including the brain tumbler.

Thanks! That's good to know. I've done everything I need to do in the "real world" so I can do the end and still go back to the brain tumbler after I've finished? I'm ready to do the end but I'm being obsessive about cleaning up - I find it unlikely, however, that I am going to find every figment.

You should be able to visit any mental world, collect figments and so on. You can even redeem psi cards/figments/etc. near the end of the game (without psi cores, oddly enough).

Just don't expect to be able to return to the campgrounds, collect or redeem scavenger hunt items, or buy equipment/dream fluffs/etc. I learned that the hard way...

I just got a message to use psi blaster. I did not know what to do. Can anyone explain this to me?

Psi Blast is what you've been shooting with - maental focus is what you use to target when you are shooting.

OK, I have been using the psi blaster throughout the game then. I wonder why all of a sudden I received this message in the third part of the shooting gallery and never got the message ever before? I was using something and I did not even know what it is called. Which is par.
There is just so much to do and gather in this game I am probably missing a lot of necessary and fun things to do.

You probably got the message because you were close to the target and the game was giving you a hint.

I finished last night and thought the last section of the game was hard.

What are your overall thoughts on the game?

Overall I loved it! Some levels I liked less than others but each level was so different and imaginative (weird too) and I really liked the graphics. I generally don't play this type of game so that says something I guess.

I also really liked that you can exit a level at any time (until the end) and go back to the campgrounds. So, if you are stuck or frustrated you can go work on the scavenger hunt and collect psi cards until you are ready to go back - this helped me never truly feel stuck.

I thought the end was overly hard compared to the rest of the game. All along the game kind of holds your hand and gives you hints while usually giving you ample time to plan your strategy. And then - boom - you are in a mad dash at the finish. I did the ending over and over and over until I started to hate it and then became obsessed and couldn't stop until I got it.

Anyway, I think it's a great game but I'm not changing my avatar from Jade to Raz

OK I just completed, or I thought I completed all four levels of sashas shooting gallery. After completing the fourth stage I was faced with a boss, Well needless to say I was killed immediately. When I went to restart it put me back at stage four to do all over again. This just isnt fair. Why do they design these games like this? It really tees me off. I just dont see why it could not restart with the boss. Sometimes I think designers do these things deliberately to annoy us. Anyway, kwbridge, how do I defeat the boss?

JohnBoy, if you save at the beginning of the boss battle, you can reload from your save point and start there again, rather than having to redo the whole level.

As for beating the boss, this one's tricky:

You need to start by finding its "power sources" and destroying them all. Until you do so, any damage you do is repaired.

Also note that you can use the "bacon" item to get hints about how to defeat a boss.

Well I am getting closer and closer to defeating that monstrosity. I want to know if I blast all the targets before I defeat him do I still have to kill him to move on?

With this boss, every time you damage him, the targets spew censors at him, which regenerate his health faster than you can drain it. When all the targets are gone, damage you do to him won't be repaired. But removing the targets doesn't hurt him, so you will have to attack him directly once the targets are gone.

Thanks, Thats definitely good to know. If I had not wandered around to other sides of the cube(by the way which is extremely hard to do in this scenario for some reason)I would not have even known about the targets.

Yes, one thing that really bugged me about this particular battle was the difficulty in getting Raz to cross an edge of the cube. Sometimes he does fine: other times he takes ages, and in a battle where you're constantly running from an enormous invincible enemy, it's really annoying to have your character freeze for 5 seconds while he tries to jump/walk from side A to side B...

I think this was the first time in the game where I lost a life more than a few times in a row--although the final stage gives it some good competition in that respect.

Drat, with the puter being knocked out since Sunday, I've lost a lot of gaming time and by being stuck on the phone with Dell lost a lot of house chore time.

Has anyone finished Black Velvetopia? There's a cobweb I can't seem to reach early on in the level. It's high up in a window, across from a tightrope. Can't figure out how to get up there though.

I must not have seen it cause I dont remember getting it. However did you try jumping on the tight rope?

I did, but I can't seem to get the required height. I was wondering if there was a ledge I missed.
