Indy Jones and the Frustrating Emperor's Tomb - 05/21/03 09:13 PM

I think this game is going to put ME in a tomb! I had quit playing the game for awhile because it was so irritating then decided to give it another try. I am still in prague on the bridge trying to swing from chain to chain and can't seem to line up the jump (so simple, yet so ???)
Any help to nudge me past this point? Kaly

I am stuck in the same place. And having to keep starting over is getting me very frustrated. However I do like the game. If that makes sense.

Adjust your height each time you jump from chain to chain.

I have a saved game from each area, so if you find that you simply cannot get past this part, let me know via e-mail and I'd be more than happy to forward the next scene, or area. Best of luck!

Hang in there...
Did you remap your keys on your keyboard? Most of us used the arrow keys except when you are on a whip or chain....to climb or go down, and to swing back and forth you need to remap the UP arrow to the W key. That'll let you swing back and forth to GAGE YOUR DISTANCE TO THE NEXT CHAIN.

As soon as I had to swing on a chain, I hit "esc" then"controls", then "reset to defaults" . Then it was easy to swing using the W & S. Press W to swing forward , then S to swing back & when you're high enough, release the chain & you'll fly forward to where you want to go. Of course, then you have to change back to whatever keys you want to use. That's one of the things I found most irritating. Linda, did you say the patch doesn't fix that? I downloaded it, but I haven't installed it.

Johnboy, it makes perfect sense to me! I've never been so frustrated by a game I love so much! smile

That's right...The patch does NOT fix that problem. Supposedly they are working on a bigger patch, but I've already finished the game, so I doubt I'll be needing it!

I did remap my keys but I seem to jump right past the second chain. I'm pretty sure I'm lined up correctly. I have climbed the chain to all different heights and have swung different lenghts, but I can't seem to grab the darn thing. This should be easy as pie, and have never had this much trouble grabbing ledges or chains and ropes in all my gaming career! I will keep trying different variations, but I may need a saved game to get past this area. Help!

Hang on, folks. The patch DOES fix this problem. They added several new online Controls configuration choices, including "Climb Up" and Climb Down". Check it out.

So, after the patch is installed, you have the choice of re-mapping the keys, like I did, using the arrows for movement, and ALSO you can map the Climb-Up and Climb-Down to whatever key you choose.

If, however, you haven't installed the patch, there is still a way to re-map offline these climb keys. I listed it in one of our many posts on Emperor's Tomb. If you would like a re-print, just say the word.

Kalygarr, you said you were having trouble lining-up the jumps to the chains. I found this game to be very forgiving on the line; that is, if you are close, he'll catch the chain. If you cannot get them lined up using the mouse, try the FIRST PERSON LOOK" key and line the chains up in the middle of the screen using the direction keys while in FIRST PERSON. Barb & Linda are right, though. The key to success is guessing the right height before you start your swings.

Hang in there!

Will I lose my saved game if I download the patch now? I know in most cases you usually do.

I downloaded the patch and it definately helps as far as the configuration of the keys for up, down, and swinging on chains.Linda if you have a saved game for this part I would love to have it to get by and on with this game so I can finish it and be done with it! I have spent way to much time here. Thanks, Kalygarr

johnboy, you don't lose your saved games when the patch is loaded. No problem playing without the patch unless you have operational issues (like a mismatched video card) which the patch fixes.

Kalygarr, did you get your game save from Linda? I have one that allows access to all levels with all artifacts retrieved, so you could pick and choose where you wanted to jump to. One exception... I haven't finished the last chapter (The Netherworld), but at least I can get you to the start of that chapter. Let me know if you might want it.

I have been away a few days... sorry I didn't get back sooner.

Johnboy, did you ever get through the part with the chains? If you can give me alittle background on how you did this I might not have to use a saved game. Linda and Dadguy have offer their saved games to get me through here, and I may have to take them up on it. I have only used a saved game once in a game before ( due to a technical difficulty) but I don't think this is one of those times. I can't believe I cannot hook up with this second chain!!!!(the agony- so many tries!)Let me know if you've found the way>>> Thanks, Kaly

I have mastered the jumps with the chains but now I keep getting eaten by the croc after I get the artifact. Line up your chain perfectly with the chain you are going to jump to.(If done properly you wont be able to see the chain you are jumping to.) Climb sorta high, but not so high that youre not swinging much. Swing back and forth, jump, let go of the forward key very briefly and then hit it again so you can grab the chain. But dont let up on the forward key after you hit it again cause you will fall. (You can let up after you have grabbed the chain) I am not very good at explanations, hope you get this and that it works for you. Let me know.
