Can you tell us more about your computer?
Win 98 or Win XP?
What video card?
Do you have the minimum specs for the game or do you have better?

Does it crash at the main menu or only when you click on Options and try to change them?

Make sure you don't have any background programs like antivirus or screensavers running when you run the game.

I'm afraid I'm at a loss. My guess it's an issue with either your video card drivers or one of the XP updates. If you've got DirectX 9.0 you might want to update to DirectX 9.0b. And be sure your Radeon drivers are rated to work with your version of DirectX. If you're using the drivers that shipped with the card, it's probably a good idea to update them.

Another thing to try is reducing audio acceleration. If you need instructions for that, check the bottom of this webpage

You might try posting over in the Dreamcatcher/TAC tech forum. Be sure to mention your specs. Your computer should be able to run the game without any problem. An Athlon 2600+ is 1.9 GHz.

This thread at the Dreamcatcher/TAC forum suggests tweaking your video card settings.

The person who posted has a Geforce, and went into his Geforce properties to tweak.
Your Radeon should have something similar. I don't know which settings he tweaked.

Re: Mysterious Journey 2 - 12/11/03 11:04 PM

Yes, thanks, i've read it, and i hope in a reply!
Today i've try again, but the problem is always there. I've found a file in MJ directory, player.txt, where many parameters are listed. I've change something (graphic and sound), i've activated the subtitles (i'm italian, and subtitles are good) but nothing... the game freeze always in the game menu. I don't understand... One thing i've found: i can play the game without go to the menu but how can i save the game? Anyone know if i can save with a shortcut? (Like F5 for example). Thanks

If you press F5, it should take you to the save menu. The game does autosave fairly regularly, whether you want it to or not.

I've solved the problem!!! Incredible... (i've read something on adventurecompany forum site). I've upgrade the mouse driver (logitech 3 button) and the problem vanished. Ol

Re: Mysterious Journey 2 - 12/17/03 02:46 AM

I am having severe problems with running MJII. I cannot even get a menu screen to be visible. I have a Dell PIII 930 mz, WinXP Pro, Nvidia Geforce 5200 w/128mb, 512 of Ram, and Soundblaster Live. I have the latest drivers for my video card, mouse, soundcard, and DirectX 9.0b. What could my problem be? I can run Uru Live without problems (even in 3D mode) but this game is a real problem for me. I have run dxdiag and found that DirectX 8 is not working (although 7 and 9 test out ok)and all the DirectX files seem to be intact. Please help!

How is it that you can test 3 different DirectX versions?
Does XP allow you to test the features of each one separately?
Is this a new feature of DirectX 9?

Re: Mysterious Journey 2 - 12/17/03 01:54 PM

I never used dxdiag before XP, but it does let you test all three version if you run "Test Direct 3D" under the "Display" tab. You get 3 different DirectX cubes to view, one for v7, one for v8, and one for v9. In my case, the v7 and v9 cubes are visible and rotate properly, but the v8 is invisible and thus "fails at Step 32: User verification", meaning I can't see the cube.

That's interesting. One of the things I don't know about because I've never used XP (or DirectX 9).

I'm not sure what to do about this. Maybe reinstalling DirectX would help. Do you have DirectX 9 or do you have the latest version 9b?

If the video card runs Uru, you would think it could run MJ2. But maybe there's some feature that MJ2 uses that Uru does not. I think whatever is causing your card to fail the DirectX 8 test may be the problem.

I ran MJ2 with an ATI card so I can't recommend any particular driver version for you.

Re: Mysterious Journey 2 - 12/17/03 08:53 PM

I have finally "fixed" my problem of not being able to play MJ2. I installed an old nVidia driver (45.23 from March 2003). (I had 52.16) I maxed out all my plethora of device settings and can now play MJ2. And when I test Direct 3D via dxdiag I can now see the rotating cube for v7, v8, and v9. (I have DirectX 9.0b)

I haven't tried Uru Live yet, but I suspect I will need to upgrade my video driver for that as soon as I finish playing MJ2.

I hope this info helps anyone else who encounters this logic defying problem.

Thanks Jenny100 for trying to help:)

Not necessarily. I'd be inclined to keep the drivers that pass ALL the DirectX tests. See how Uru works with them before "upgrading."
