I have an Athlon900 processor, 786 RAM, ATI Radeon 7000 64 MB, Soundblaster16 PCI Running on Windows 98. Any suggestions? I'm half way into this game and had to format my hard drive. Installed the game and got this error message when I went to start. Thanks in advance.

You may have to turn your audio acceleration all the way down in order to play this game. I don't know if that's what's causing your problem or not, but it's a good place to start.

Have you made sure all unnecessary background programs are closed before playing the game? Do you see anything besides Systray and Explorer in the Task Manager box when you do a Control-Alt Delete? It might be that some other program is conflicting with the game.

Hi Jenny,
I'm considering trying a no-cd crack, bypassing the CDRom drive and playing directly from my Hd in case it's a disk problem.

Re: Re: Hitchcock the Final Cut - 07/18/03 07:18 PM

If you can find one, I see no problem in trying it. Cracks don't work with all versions of the game though. So you may find one that works with the European version and not the North American version.

Hi Jenny,
Just thought I'd send you a little update in case anyone else has a problem like I had or beginning crashes. I got an email from the Arxel Tribe tech dept. to disable Direct Draw in the Direct X properties (in DXdiag). As soon as I did this the game ran.

I wonder why some people have to do that and others don't. I know I didn't have to do it.

Not sure myslf, guess some sort of conflict thing. If you suggest this to anyone though, be sure to tell them to re-enable it before starting to play another game, as was pointed out to me in the Arxel Tribe Tech response. Now if only I can get my old saves to work, new install won't recognize them.

It's possible that if you start the game and make a bunch of saves, then exit the game and replace those saves with your saves from the previous games, that you'll be able to access your old saves. I'm not sure. Apparently this works for some games and not others.

Apart from what Jenny and others say, do you, GAMERS, ever do a "housekeep" on your PC? Constantly installing and uninstalling games gives the Registry a heart attack! NEVER touch Registry but do a housekeeping exercise at least once a week ......... ie. Scandisk and Defrag.
Also (Friday or Monday, whatever day you choose) upgrade (physically) your antivirus program. There are Registry cleaners and other FREE programs to download. Keep the "box" clean and you won't have too many problems loading games or "crashes". Also upgrade the video and audio drivers, regularly, it is FREE ......and make SURE you get the latest Microsoft "critical security" upgrades.

The computer is a "tool" .. not a tricycle.

Re: Re: Hitchcock the Final Cut - 07/31/03 11:32 PM

Hi Aurora,
I have had computers since the days of the old Apple 2 GS models. Those days DOS was the major OS and games were text based. Then came the PC's and Windows 3.1 on up, though I stuck with Win98 SE as I feel it is the best gaming OS. I know computers like the back of my hand, paticularly as they pertain to gaming. As stated above my problem with Hithcock had nothing to do with viruses, registry (and yes I edit the registry myself deleting stuff as necessary)or drivers, but a tweak in the DirectX properties. As soon as that was done the game ran. I also automatically have the latest virus files updated automatically from Norton as soon as new ones are available for downlod and do scans once a week (Can't remember the last time I had one). As general maintenance I format my hard drive approximately every 3-4 months and this computer hums. I have an Athalon 900 786 RAM, Soundblaster16 PCI sound card, an ATI Radeon 7000 video card, and a Toshiba 52X cdRom/DVD drive. So yes I do do all the general "housekeeping" and beyond.

Happy Gaming,
Lewton
