the Watchmaker - 04/01/03 02:44 AM

Near the mid-end- Victoria has set the clock- is reading the diary- gets to the part about finances and shows the poker game -- and CRASH!! It shuts down. I've tried slowing the graphic accelerator but it doesn't help. Any suggestions????

Re: the Watchmaker - 04/01/03 03:47 AM

Have you tried turning down the audio acceleration all the way to basic?

Re: the Watchmaker - 04/01/03 04:42 AM

EEEKK! I set audio & graphic to lowest and tried to speech on harddrive and game wouldn't even load!

Re: the Watchmaker - 04/01/03 05:08 AM

It's a 3D game and needs graphic acceleration to run.
That's why it wouldn't load. I wouldn't recommend reducing graphic acceleration more than one notch from full, and even then I'd only suggest it for really fast video cards.

It doesn't need audio acceleration though. Try it with one notch above no audio acceleration and if that doesn't work try reducing it all the way.

Re: the Watchmaker - 04/01/03 05:14 AM

kind of odd that it played well so far into the game then did this isnt' it? I've got the speech half loaded to h/d now so am stuck in making changes for a few more minutes

Re: the Watchmaker - 04/01/03 06:50 AM

I had a crash around that point too - that video where the guys are playing the poker game. But it didn't crash the next time I played it. I didn't make any changes to the computer - just restarted the game and reloaded my save and it was fine. It was just a random bug.

I'm assuming that your crash is repeating every time you try to play that part of the game, which is why I suggested the audio acceleration change. You might also try having Darryl do that part and see if he has better luck. Sometimes doing things just a little differently will prevent a crash bug like that.

Re: the Watchmaker - 04/01/03 07:50 AM

I just got an email from trecision!!!! Marco asked for a gamesave just before the diary is opened. He said they have not found a fix yet so sounds like they are at least AWARE of the problem!

Re: the Watchmaker - 04/01/03 07:56 AM

Thanks Jenn -- That would be sooooo great! Be interesting to see if the game will play past my bug! eek

Re: the Watchmaker - 04/01/03 07:57 AM

I have a save that seems to be from around that area. I think it's from just before looking at the bag though. My next save is a little while afterward, when Darryl has found a cassette tape and a walkman.

Update - I'll send them and you decide if you want to use them or not.

Put it this way Jen--- you are saving the life of the game and possibly my whole computer at this point????? laugh eek Actually -- Not that bad - 'nother email from watchmaker@trecision.com -- they wanted "original save " file and are going to work on it laugh I'd very much like your saves tho-- Thanks!!!! thumbsup

Re: the Watchmaker - 04/01/03 08:14 AM

OK. They're sent.
It will be interesting if the first save works for you when your own save doesn't. I'm pretty sure it's before I looked in that suitcase and got the video. I don't remember if I'd looked at the desk yet.

The second save will probably skip over a bit of other stuff, but it will definitely be past the suitcase.

Re: the Watchmaker - 04/01/03 08:22 AM

The first save is from the old wing in that secret room.

The second save is from the new wing.

Jenn -- don't you EVER sleep! I was looking at the time of our posts last night! eek
Nice to know there are other night owls out there. laugh
I got another email from Marco Castrucci (watchmaker@trecision.com)with an attached game just after the diary is read. He seems to think the glich is on certain computers and they are looking into a patch for the problem. Very helpful and much appreciated! I'm going to try his saved game and will get back to this post. I forgot to ask what platform you use? Mine is winME- could be part of the problem? Thanks for the help!

Re: the Watchmaker - 04/01/03 07:48 PM

Last night was a late night for me. I was trying to get all my emails answered before going to bed and ended up going to bed at around 3:30 AM. I usually try to get to bed by 2:00 AM.

I'm surprised that the second save crashed for you. I thought the first one might, but not the second. I hope Trecision comes up with a patch for this problem.

The computer I played the game on had specs like this:

Windows 98SE
PIII 750
Geforce 2 TI 64MB (full acceleration)
512 MB RAM
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz (with acceleration turned down to basic)
DirectX 7a

All options were enabled in the game, including shadows.

Bloniebc and Jenny...I have just finished Watchmaker and had no problems where you did >>>THANK GOD...but I spent two days about 12 hours trying to get the [blip] cook to wake up.... you will get there...and then you'll go get your hammer again...SORRY.... I have been helping out another person with their game and got them to the ending she is almost home!!! For such a good game I had so many problems, and mine were not with the gameplay but trying to get the people to say the right things then their is something you have to give back to the caretaker( but I did not know he needed them (until a little "birdie" told me), I won't tell you want it is but it is lost outside and it won't go forward (in time) until you find the thing and give it back to the caretaker who is now in the basement.
I wish you lossst of luck ....you have a little ways to go and so much I think may go wrong if you are where i think you are !!! HEAVEN HELP YOU BLONDIE-BC... Your Friend Hanksdog
