Is this just the beginning of the historical-based games?

Will there be more based on any of the other "great" murderers in history? Such as the "Boston Strangler"

That would be interesting. I had just started my engineering career in Boston, when that "gentleman", started his killing spree. One of the men I worked with, was related to the Boston Medical Examiner, and I learned things that were not printed in the newspaper. Some of the things he did to those women, would chill your blood. The really freighting thing is, people like this are still walking the streets. Lou

Neat concept. Pirates, huh?

The French (or French/Canadians) had some great Pirate characters.

Why are so many good game producers from Canada?

Pirate themes are always a hot subject for gaming. BlueBeard sounds great! Thanks for being here Philippe.

Uhm yes Bluebeard the ultimate "lady killer" Really makes you thimk twice about going into forbidden rooms laugh

Also the Parisian lady killer Landru. BRRRR House of horrors.

I think there is a fascination with such horrors of human beings. The question of evil, how it arises and it's nature. It is the real face of evil, calculating yet able to move through society and be accepted and even well liked in many cases. Disconcerting.

Its very disconcerting. At the time of the Yorkshire Ripper, I was a teenager and just starting to go out a bit. Its not suprising my parents tried to wrap me in cotton wool. A friend of mine who is a policeman actually found one of the victims and his descriptions really made you think about your safety when out and about.

Actually Gilles de Retz (or Rais, 1404-1440) was the best and the brightest french marshall of its time. He was commanding the army together with Joan of Arc and won numerous battles. He retired at the time when she was executed. Ten years later, he

I wonder how players would react to a game based on a female serial killer, such as Alexe Popova??

from my reading, Giles de Retz didn't just murder children... he took his pleasure first. Yuck!!!

If everything that has been confessed by Gilles de Retz and his servants is real, he was an unbelievable monster.

On the other hand, we can't totally rule out the fact that it seems that all testimonies were obtained by torture, that no material evidences were produced, and that both the Bishop and the Duke that ordered his trial confiscated all his territories for themselves. So

Hmmm similar to the premise on which they executed the Lady he followed then!! I believe Jeanne D'Arc was burned as a witch, please correct me if I'm wrong!

Something like that, yes. You know, we got an ol' say in France which reads : "when you wanna get rid of your dog, you say he's got rabies"

I would imagine you have read them, but for others possibly interested in the story, there are two interesting books on the subject: The Saint and the Devil (The story of Joan of Arc and Gilles deRais) by Frances Winwar (1948), who looks to have done a great deal of research, and the much lighter, more contemporary Gilles and Jeanne by Michel Tournier (1983). If you haven't read the former, it has an extensive bibliography that might be helpful to you.
So for me, yes, I would think that a very interesting topic (and if he is indeed guilty of the murders, or whether he met his end for his previous staunch support of d'Arc). It would be wonderful to have an adventure game including Joan, where reflex action isn't necessary, and the complexities of the characters were revealed (no small task, I am sure!).

Actually I haven't read them, because the idea of Gilles de Rais as a subject just popped in my head while answering the forum...

I love historical settings... I wish someone would write an adventure set in the Regency period in England, thats my favourite read smile

I love historical settings as well Tigger, especially history's mysteries sort of thing. All this talk of pirates got me thinking that it would be great to have an adventure game on Grace O' Malley, pirate queen.
