Dracula: Origin to Release in the UK in May 2008 - 04/24/08 12:03 PM

Experience the Sinister Setting of Dracula's Lair

Quote:
Dracula: Origin is the dark and chilling new adventure game for the PC, released in May 2008 from Ascaron Entertainment and Focus Home Interactive. Take on the role of vampire hunter Professor Van Helsing, in a fearsome quest to hunt down Dracula.

Inspired by Bram Stoker’s novel

Quote:
Dracula: Origin is inspired by the world imagined by author Bram Stoker, with a rich storyline taking you from London to Dracula’s castle in Transylvania. The game puts you in the role of the infamous Van Helsing, who must kill Dracula before he raises the dead. Other characters from the novel who also feature in the game are Mina Murray and her fiancé Jonathan Harker, who has suspiciously disappeared.

Puzzling gameplay

Quote:
Use Point & Click gameplay to explore the many gothic settings, solving puzzles and collecting clues to progress through the game. Challenges range from painting with blood, rearranging gothic carvings to open locked pathways, and solving word puzzles. Think outside the box to progress; use alcohol to distract a monk and steal his clothes as a disguise, or create a makeshift key to open a secret door.

Stunning graphics

Quote:
The world of Dracula: Origin is reproduced through immensely detailed graphics, set in realistic gothic environments. Engage with the animated 3D characters in the atmospheric surroundings to become thoroughly immersed throughout the game.

Dracula: Origin will release in the UK and in North America in May 2008. For screenshots from the game, click here. For more information, click here. PEGI: 12+ (Expected)

Re: Dracula: Origin to Release in the UK in May 2008 - 04/24/08 04:40 PM

Thanks Becky - great news! I have emailed the tech support to ask them whether it would be possible to insert a mouse/cursor speed into the Options but of course it may be too late now. This is because, with previous Dracula games I have found the cursor speed to be much too slow for me causing me 'mouse drag' as I call it. I always have my Windows cursor on full speed but with these previous games I seem to have needed a huge area in which to drag my mouse around to get the cursor moving!

Just a thought, though I do look forward to this release greatly.

Becky, The information is found at this page:

http://www.adventuregamers.com/gameinfo.php?id=952

I like to check for information on perspective, control and graphic style as I like third person view, point-and-click control and illustrated realism styled graphics.

It will be great if this site include those information too!

mission, I think GameBoomers does a fine job at reporting info on new games. If you like the other sites way of displaying it, perhaps that is the place for you to look. That is why there is more than one site.

Ana, I fully agree with you that GameBoomers does a fine job and that's why I'm here. In fact, GameBoomers is my main site.

Only when I need to find out if the game is first or third person view, I would have to search the internet to find those information.

Please keep up the good work. Cheers!

Mission -- I've just confirmed that Dracula: Origin is in third person. thumbsup

Bermag -- it's very confusing, but there are two Dracula games currently in development. This one, Dracula: Origin, is not a sequel to the previous Dracula games. It's developed by Frogwares, the people who make the Sherlock Holmes games and 80 Days.

The other Dracula game (Dracula 3: The Path of the Dragon) IS related to the previous Dracula games and is developed by Kheops.

Welcome Mission to our family of Gameboomers! And I also thank you for letting us know if the game is first person or 3rd person. I hate first person view, makes me sea sick. I like to see the character's face for me it gets me more into the storyline. Each to their own cup of tea though.

Edit........................thanks Becky for confirming it.

I fully agree. I buy only third person view. It makes me wonder why developers developed those games in first person view. Is it easier/faster to develop a first person view game? Or is there a demand for first person view? Each time I read a new game in the market, I always pray for third person view.

Excuse my ignorance, but I don't really know, after having played many games, what the difference is between 1st and 3rd person games. Can someone give me a few examples of each type
and expalin the difference.
Feel really dumb in posting this. duh

Re: Dracula: Origin to Release in the UK in May 2008 - 04/25/08 03:51 AM

RAL, I'm sure you know what first or third person view is.

Let's start with third person view. An example is Nibiru or Secret Files: Tunguska. In third person view, you see the person you are playing/controling ie. Martin in Nibiru and Nina in Secret Files. You see Martin/Nina doing all kind of activities. You click on an area and you can see the Martin/Nina walk to that area.

In first person view, you don't see the person you are playing/controling. Example is Return to Mysterious Island. In the walking comparison, you clicked on an area, you won't see anyone walking to the area but you will see the camera going to the area.

Personally, I get kind of sick playing first person view games. And navigating a first person view game is a big challenge, not to mention frustating.

I'm pretty new to gaming, if there is a better explaination, please feel free to add.

Re: Dracula: Origin to Release in the UK in May 2008 - 04/25/08 11:51 AM

I enjoy first person games as much or maybe even more than third person games. I like the feeling of immediacy they give. It makes me feel as if I'm actually exploring the environment.

I don't feel any nausea while playing games in a first person perspective, and I imagine that if I did, I'd feel differently about them.

I find first person games in general are easier to navigate than third person games -- they are much easier than third person games with direct control of the character where I keep bumping the character into walls and other parts of the environment.
