News from Steve Ince on So Blonde - 08/23/08 04:02 PM

Even though not many English-speaking gamers have had the opportunity to play So Blonde yet, the publisher has already announced a new game with Sunny. This time, it's going to be for Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS, but they are not ports of the PC game nor a sequel. Instead, the developers at WizarBox posed the question 'What if Sunny after being shipwrecked hadn't landed on the 'nice' side of the island but on the opposite, dark and unwelcoming side? Steve Ince is once more the writer of the story, it's his job to come up with ideas for gameplay and the backgrounds of the characters. In Leipzig, I met Steve and had a nice chat with him. I also visited the official pressconference and was shown the Wii-game at the dtp booth.

The game will have lots of new locations and characters, as well as some that will be familiar to players of the PC-game. There will be mini-games again, for instance the 'catch the waterdrops' -game will be back. We were also shown a mini-game in which customers in a bar had to be served the correct drink in a short amount of time. As in the PC-game players who don't like these mini-games or are really 'bad' at them can skip them. The mini-games are not there to frustrate the player, and the player should never be stopped from progressing through the game. They're meant as a fun diversion. However, the ending of the game will be different based amongst others on the items you collect in the game and some of them can only be found by playing the mini-games. Steve added there has been a lot of harsh criticism on the ending of several games lately, and he is really pleased with all the possible endings of the Wii- and DS-versions of So Blonde.

The games can be played in any order and without knowledge of the other game. If you do play both games you will get to know the characters a little bit better as well as more information on the island.

Steve estimates the Wii-version will last a little bit longer than the PC game at about 15 hours. The games should be out 'sometime in the middle of next year' according to publisher dtp.

Is that true of the DS version as well?
Or will the DS version be an abridged variant of the Wii version?

I am not really sure as most of the press conference and the meeting at the dtp booth concentrated on the Wii version (and I forgot to ask Steve frown duh )

The DS and Wii versions contain the same gameplay, just with adjustments for interface.

Of course, any play time I propose is only ever going to be an estimate and many of you expert players may well complete it more quickly. smile
