Name the Game Entertainment - 03/31/09 03:42 PM

The time has come to start a new thread for our favorite adventure guessing game. (If you wish to see the last page of the previous Name the Game thread, click here.)

These are the rules:

One person (hereinafter known as "It") posts a clue to an adventure game. The clue can be simple or difficult or creative or dastardly or even poetic. Clues can be information about characters or events or puzzles or more (though we do try to stay away from outright puzzle spoilers).

When thinking up clues, a good place to look for possible ideas is the GameBoomers collection of adventure walkthroughs (plenty of inspiration there). You can also look up adventure game titles and information in the PAGODA Game Database for more ideas.

Everyone who wishes to participate, posts the name of the game that best matches the clue. If no one has guessed after a few attempts, "It" gives another clue. The person who guesses correctly then becomes "It" and posts a clue for a different game, and so on.

Sometimes people who think they've guessed the game but don't wish to name it will also post a clue -- please do this only if "It," along with the first clue, posts "Extra Clues are Welcome (ECAW)." Of course, keep in mind that sometimes the "Extra Clues" may be "red herrings."

****************************************************

I have just correctly guessed that the answer to Bernard's clues is: Broken Sword 3, so I am IT and will soon be posting a new clue.

Clue # 4 -- something else in the title. It's not a word, but actually a number.

Okay, I'm not good at this word association clue-giving thing. lol

The title can be found somewhere on this page. All the previous clues are still good. Well, not effective-good, just good in terms of they still apply.

A new text adventure coming up, find the clues!

You're driving in your car to meet with your new employer. It's a beautiful day, the sky is blue and you're driving through a deserted landscape. The CD player is playing your favourite tunes and you feel great. Suddenly a shadow overcasts the car and something that looks like a lightning bolt strikes it. The motor stalls and you manage to steer the car to the side of the road. After trying to restart the engine a couple of times you realize that's not going to work.

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/05/09 10:50 AM

Sorry Lilo.

You take your cell phone and the car keys and step out of the car. Strange, there's not one cloud in the sky, the air is laden with electricity, the hairs on your arm are raised! Looking around you see no garage or any other building. The road is leading from north to south and there's a dirt road heading westward. A pole with the remains of a weathered sign can be seen at the crossing.

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/05/09 01:36 PM

Walking towards the pole you see that on the sign only a few letters are still readable: ".air .....d". Climbing the pole won't help, it's merely 3 feet high. There's a breeze coming from the west, it smells like a sea breeze!

>Go North by Northwest.
Posted By: Bernard

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/06/09 12:55 PM

You don't want to go there because you have a fear of walking in corn fields being chased by crop dusting planes. Instead you go northwest. You arrive at the top of a cliff, the height induces vertigo. There's a ladder going down. After descending all the 39 steps you find yourself at a railroad station. Nobody is there, the door is locked. You try to look through the rear window but the curtains are closed.
There's a poster on the wall, there are exits to the northwest and up to the cliff top.

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/06/09 06:35 PM

Before you rip the poster of the wall you look what's written on it, someone is looking for her missing cats. Behind the poster you see the time schedule of the railway. It tells trains are only available as soon as you've completed a certain part of the game. Breaking the window with the phone is tempting but there's the possibility you loose the photo you've made of the flower. It's almost sunset but it's not Dark Fall.

Hitchcock: The Final Cut? lol
Posted By: Bernard

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/06/09 09:24 PM

You climb the ladder again, halfway up you are blocked by the body of bald man, he's blocking the way. After checking his pulse you conclude this was his last cameo! You look down and see a part of the railroad track is flooded. After climbing down you go northwest, sadly enough there's no phonebox in sight. A gipsy woman approaches you and says "Hi stranger, my name is Christina. I can foretell the future but I'm afraid of becoming an It. Some silver could change my mind though!". After she has spoken, she mysteriously disappears. There's some laughter far away.
There are exits to the southeast to the station, west to the beach and northeast, you have no idea where it will lead you.

Posted By: Bernard

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/07/09 12:31 PM

You walk towards the beach. The sun has almost disappeared behind the horizon. A black dog runs towards you, it's carrying a message between its teeth. The dog sits down before you and drops the message at your feet. After picking up the note you read "Yes, the lost crown is found, congratulations Zookee!".

Another little text adventure. The meaning of the game is to find clues along the way while you play it. Real clues will be in italic. You interact with me, the parser. Only simple commands are accepted, like take this, go north, use item on other item, etcetera.

You're white water rafting on one of the most fierce rivers in the world. Ahead is a rapid that looks quite innocent. However, once passed the undertow drags you down. After a few minutes you black out....

Once you regain conscience you see you're in a kind of operating room, strapped to an operating table. The PA system sounds a warning: "Dr. 90210, Dr. 90210, there's a leakage in operating room 5!".
Two nurses come in, one puts a tray with bread knifes on your left side, the other rolls in a liposucker machine.
Oh no! You've been abducted by the Plastic Surgeon Warriors, a tribe with a bad reputation. You like your body like it is now and they want to change it!
What to do now?

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/12/09 12:09 PM

There are many text adventures online Joy, try a Google search.

The liposucker machine is way to heavy to pick up. Maybe you can reach the control panel.

The Immortals of Terra: Perry Rhodan?
Posted By: Bernard

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/12/09 12:38 PM

Not Perry Rhodan Becky.

You're unable to reach the strap with your teeth, you can reach the control panel with your fingers though. Looking at the controls you see a power switch, a suction regulator and an extraction/expulsion switch. A yellow light indicates the fat container is half full. The manufacturer's name is on it, Miller Electronics.

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/12/09 03:13 PM

You can't reach the knifes because they're on the left side of you, besides you don't want to become a killer!
Pressing the power switch doesn't work, you have to set the other controls first.

> Press extraction/expulsion switch. Oops! Wrong way! The jar with fat is now full & you are now looking very skeletal - you haven't got much muscle so you need to go to the gym.

The extraction/expulsion switch doesn't start the machine. The settings have to be correct before the machine can be started.

> Press suction control - TOO LATE!

> Press power switch.

These 2 command(s) are not accepted!

>Set suction regulator to "whatever." Set extraction/expulsion switch to "gentle." Press power switch. Whistle Dixie.

These settings are not appropriate.
The suction regulator has three settings: Low, Intermediate and Full Power.
The extraction/expulsion switch has two switch has two settings: Extract and Expulse.
A bit of fat dribbles on the floor though.

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/12/09 10:02 PM

Is it Starship Titanic. (Makes me think of the Succ U Bus. Well, in this case it's a Succ U Fat wink )
Posted By: Bernard

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/12/09 10:38 PM

That would take out only one of the nurses and you still would be strapped to the operating table. Rethink your plan, you're thinking the right way.

Zook, the story of the mini adventure has less or nothing to do with the game I'm looking for. Only the text in italic is important. If you don't recall them, use:

>clues found

black dress, kinky outfit, Miller, killer.

Posted By: sierramindy

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/12/09 11:47 PM

Hmm, the only italics I found are: control panel, Miller, killer. There is a "black out" mentioned but *black* is not in italics. I can't find anything about a black dress or kinky outfit.
Posted By: Bernard

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/13/09 12:17 AM

Strange, a post is missing! crazy
I did forget to mention the control panel in my last post, my fault. blush
The missing post was an answer to Becky's command >Wake up from nightmare. It was something like:

You're not able to pinch yourself because your arms are strapped too, the strap on your right arm isn't as tight though. You take a look at the nurses, they're wearing strange cloths, one nurse is wearing a black dress the other a kinky outfit.

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/13/09 09:07 AM

> Set controls to Expulse

For some reason this makes me think of Still Life
Posted By: Bernard

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/13/09 01:32 PM

You set the suction regulator to full power, the extraction/expulsion switch to expulsion and hit the power button. The liposucker emerges a fountain of fat. The two nurses both slip and fall down, their heads hit each other and they are both KO. Your right hand is so well greased, you're able to get it out of the strap. You grab one of the knifes and cut the other straps. After slip sliding to the scrub room, you're relieved to see there's a shower!

GAME OVER

Well...there was a lot of activity at the front desk and in the train station. I at least thought there was a register at one of them lol

Obviously you mean the gift shop ghosties. Sorry to make you wait. I did watch the first day I posted, but then got lost in our gardening after that. That doesn't keep me in mind of adventure gaming. Only AG I can recall with a garden in it was ND:Shadow Ranch...I think it had one anyway... wink

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/26/09 02:44 AM

Okay, here it is.

I’m going to try Bernard’s idea of presenting clues woven in through a brief text adventure. All Name the Game clues are in bold italics. They might also contain links to Youtube videos – the videos are just for fun and don’t add anything extra to the clue itself. You can guess the game or give responses/instructions in the text adventure, or both.

You are standing in a forest. To the North is a large pine tree with snow-laden boughs. Standing beneath the tree is an elf dressed in red and green, smoking a pipe shaped like a butterfly.

To the South is a Rose of Sharon bush in full bloom. A courting couple sits on a wooden bench in front of it.

East is a young man wearing a pink shirt with a blue sweater tied around his neck. He is playing a baguette. In front of him is a sign that says: “Parlez-vous français?”

West is a path, winding away through maple trees that are rapidly losing their yellow leaves.

You are carrying a backpack. In it is a polished stick, a book titled “Seasonal Change for Dummies” and a gold ring.

>Walk North and speak to the elf under the tree.

You walk North, your feet now deep in the snow. The elf looks at you, puffs on the pipe and releases an image in smoke that looks like a ship with two masts, furled sails, and sailers walking back and forth on the deck.

“Aren’t you cold, standing here?” you ask him.

“Not while I have me pipe,” he says, laying his finger aside of his nose and giving a nod.

“Aren’t you hungry?”

“Not while I have a job to do,” he says and goes back to puffing on the pipe. You then notice that there is a gold coin in the snow near his foot.

Quote:
>speak with the courting couple in the south.

As you walk South the snow on your shoes melts rapidly, leaving your feet sodden. Your boots squish as you cross the forest clearing to speak to the courting couple.

The young woman is dressed in a long plaid gown, her hair is arranged in elaborately curled tendrils. She is perfectly still. The young man is wearing a modern tuxedo, but otherwise bears an eerie resemblance to Napoleon.

The young man jumps up as you approach and seizes your arm.

“Help us!” he begs. “My true love has been frozen in time, the victim of a sorcerer’s apprentice's curse! Only the music of a bagpipe can free her.”

> Walk North until you come to the elf smoking a pipe.
> Talk to elf. Ask him if you can have the pipe. He will only give it to you if you give him something in return.
> Give elf gold ring from backpack. He gives you his pipe.
He is distracted by the beauty of the gold ring.
> Pick up gold coin (by his foot).

> Walk south.
> Walk east until you come to the young man playing the baguette.
> Talk to man. Complement him on his pink shirt. Ask about baguette. He needs money.
> Give him gold coin & get baguette.

After doing all that, do you find the Sacred Mirror of Kofun?
Posted By: Becky

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/26/09 06:04 PM

Excellent guess, LadyKestrel, but not this time.

Plaintiff strains of the bagpipe (also known as a baguette pipe) rise from the forest clearing. The young woman blinks, then smiles in the direction of the young man. He leans toward her. As their lips meet, you turn from the scene of this love story and notice that the elf has disappeared. On the snowy ground where once stood is a black tag that you vaguely remember used to be attached to the ring that you gave the elf. You pick it up and tiny words appear on the tag, as if written in flame: “Property of Sauron. Please return to the Tower of Barad-dûr, Plateau of Gorgoroth, Mordor, Middle Earth.”

You hear a shout from the young man in the pink shirt. He is waving at you angrily. The gold coin you gave him comes flying toward the air at you. You drop the tag and catch the coin. Upon closer inspection, you realize that chocolate is oozing from one side – it’s a chocolate coin covered in gold foil.

“That’s worthless!” shouts the angry pink-shirted young man. “Give me something more valuable or give me back my baguette!”

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/26/09 08:34 PM

Hi Sierramindy – not Secret of Monkey Island (or Wild, Wild West either). lol

Suddenly, you see footsteps forming on the snow. The elf is still near, though invisible because of the power of the ring. The footsteps move rapidly to the East and the pink-shirted young man stumbles, apparently knocked aside by the now-invisble elf. A blizzard forms in the East and footsteps continue tromping through it.

“The elf is taking the Magnetic North Pole with him!” says the pink-shirted young man. As you stand in the clearing, stunned, a blizzard forms in the East. In the South the Rose of Sharon bush puts forth bright green spring leaves – the courting couple still kiss, oblivious to what's happening around them. The yellow maple leaves in the West turn green in a rolling wave of color, and the snow by the large pine tree melts, leaving only a layer of frost on the ground.

You put the tag back in your backpack along with the bagpipe, polished stick, melted chocolate coin and “Seasonal Change for Dummies.” You put on the blue sweater and follow the elf into the newly forming blizzard.

A fierce wind at your back blows you along and you find yourself practically flying down a wide avenue, similar to the Champs Elysées. The invisible elf turns down a side street and enters a café with wood paneling and gas lamps. A startled-looking group of students is whispering together in a corner, watching the snow blow through the open door.

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/27/09 02:50 PM

lol

The elf suddenly becomes visible. He is standing across the room from you, near the fireplace. The time he has worn the ring has aged him, and his hair and beard are now silver-white. The green in his clothing is gone, leaving him attired only in crimson. A small cloud above his head sheds miniature snowflakes over his shoulders.

To the North is the elf. To the South is a paneled wall with a blackboard containing the café daily specials. To the East is a police inspector dressed in 19th century clothing. To the West is the café bar and the door to the street.

You turn to go West, and hear the elf chuckling behind you. He is moving about the room, and as he moves, the cardinal directions change. North, South, East, West, all are changing.

You are spinning in circles, trying to go West.

“My friend,” you hear the elf say. “I was stuck in that forest for 10,000 years. The ring gave me the power to leave. You have given me my liberty.”

The room stops spinning. The elf is gone. You are fairly certain that he did not exit through the door.

On the fireplace mantle is a large stone torch. Next to it is a sock, hanging from a nail.

Approaching the fireplace, you see that the gold ring is now in the sock. Looking up the chimney, you can see bricks jutting out at intervals that would allow you to climb up to the roof. Looking at the base of the chimney, you see a trap door, leading to the basement.

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/28/09 01:59 AM

Can it be one of The Lord of the Ring series?? I have only played part of The Hobbit so it is a wild guess.
Posted By: Becky

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/28/09 01:05 PM

Sorry, the guesses aren't correct. I guess not many people have played this game?

You open up the trap door and descend down a ladder into the basement. You admire the two paintings and take one of them, which has a particularly tasty-looking peach in it. Having read the cafe's daily specials, you are hungry and are wondering if you are carrying something that could transform the peach into one that was actually edible.

Items in your backpack: a black tag with flaming letters, a bagpipe, a polished stick, a melted chocolate coin, a painting of a peach and “Seasonal Change for Dummies.”

There's another trap door in the basement floor. You open up the trap door and the smell of the sewers fills the basement. You hear shouts, commands to "stop in the name of the law" and for a brief moment you see a tall muscular man, carring the body of another man as he passes under the trap door, sloshing deeper into the sewer.

To the North is a hooked ladder leaning against the basement wall. To the South is a small window covered in dirt. To the East are several wine casks, some of them empty. On top of one cask is a surgical mask. At your feet is the open trap door.

>Go south and find another Broken Sword, this time with a Smoking Mirror.
Posted By: Becky

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/28/09 07:34 PM

You walk toward the window and notice a broken sword and a smoking mirror on the floor under the window. You pick up the sword, the blade fragments and the mirror and wonder: are these things the answer to the question that's been plaguing me for days now? Sadly, you realize that the answer is "no."

You wonder why the mirror is smoking, and realize that the smoke in the mirror is a reflection. Someone has built a fire in the fireplace above you, and the smoke is now seeping down into the basement!

You create a makeshift barricade using the wine casks to cover up the cracks in the trap door. The smoke seeps into the room more slowly now, but you still need to get out of there while you still can!

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/29/09 01:58 PM

While holding the handkerchief to your nose and mouth, you grab the hooked ladder leaning against the North wall and hook it over the window ledge on the South wall. Climbing up the ladder, you use the broken sword to break the small window. You are coughing repeatedly, and sense that you are about to be overcome by the smoke.

The window is too small to accommodate you while carrying the backpack. You place the sword on the ground outside the window, drop the backpack onto the basement floor, crawl through the window, and collapse on the ground outside, breathing in the sweet Parisian air. There are loud noises and tremors coming from the basement behind you. Apparently some of the casks were not wine casks, but were barrels full of fireworks! Multicolored lights spray from the open basement window, and crowds of people from the street begin running toward the café.

Sword in hand, you crawl away around the corner. You are alive, but wondering if you will ever see your possessions again. All you have left is a handkerchief and a broken sword. Most important, though, you have finally answered the Ultimate Question.

Game Over

The clues to the game title were in bold parenthesis, Danyboy. In Becky's story, they were:
-Parlez-vous française?
-ship with 2 masts, furled sails & sailors walking back & forth on deck
-Napoleon
-sewers
-love story

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 04/29/09 05:58 PM

If I use this format again sometime, I'll try to explain it better.

The idea is that clues to "Name the Game" are given in the context of a text adventure.

You can participate in two ways.

1. By looking at the clues for guessing the Name of an adventure Game, which are in bold italics. LadyK has transcribed a list of all of the clues that were included in this last sequence.

2. By participating in the progress of the text adventure. You can post instructions related to the text -- to combine items that have already been mentioned, for instance, or to walk in a certain direction or to talk to someone or to give an item to someone.

There's also (technically) a third way, which has arisen in the course of this sequence -- you can post your guess at the name of the game as if it is (also) an instruction in the text. Sort of two birds with one stone. laugh

Are you now MORE confused than before? lol It is kind of unusual.

Another text adventure. Why? Because I like to do it. As usual clues will be in italic. First the introduction, it gives me time to decide what game and clues will be offered to you. smile

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night.

You stop at a hotel and walk into the lounge. It looks deserted. There's a desk with a bell on it and some pictures on the opposite side. There are stairs going to the second floor on the north side and there's a door at the west. South is the entrance door.

You are now worried. The haunting melody of 'Welcome to the Hotel California' playing on your DVD player in the car is still ringing around your ears. You weren't exactly listening but you took note of ... 'you can never leave'. The deserted hotel seems quite spooky & starts to make you feel a little paranoid.

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 05/06/09 10:14 PM

>look at the pictures on the wall

The pictures depict some ancient scenes with details that make you shiver. Rapidly you turn around.

>ring bell on desk

There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
this could be heaven or this could be hell
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

She leads you to your room and gives you the key. A strange shaped key chain is attached to it. You open the door and enter the room. It's just an ordinary hotel chamber. and the bed looks very inviting. There's a chip on the nightstand.

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 05/07/09 07:29 PM

You lay down on the bed but, although you're tired, you don't fall asleep. Maybe a drink will help. You decide go to the hotel bar, when getting out of the bed, a pair of handcuffs fall from beneath the pillow.
You notice the chip on the night stand is casino chip.

After a bit of strolling around you find the bar, the bartender is dressed as a sailor.

So I called up the captain,
"please bring me my wine"
He said, "we haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine"
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

On the bar is a bowl of snacks, not the usual peanuts but fresh made popcorn. On one of the walls is a picture. From where you are you can't recognize what it depicts.

The moment your head hits the pillow, you fall asleep. you dream about a shooting star approaching. Suddenly there's a knock on your door..

Thanks Bernee!

Since I've finally figured out the text adventure I think it's time to give it a whirl....here goes...

A flock of geese have landed on my pond. Winter is approaching and they are on their migratory journey south. If I want this message to reach it's intended destination I will have to act fast. I roll the note, that I had carefully crafted earlier comlete with a map, and slip it into a small empty jar. My hands are shaking with intrepidation. What if I fail? I must act swiftly and stealthfully. I move quietly toward the water.

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 05/11/09 04:40 PM

The water is either too hot or there's some magic involved. Anyway you are shrinking!

>climb on one of the geese

Posted By: zookeeper

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 05/12/09 12:48 AM

With the lid securely on the jar and the jar clutched tightly in my hand, I slip quietly through the water toward the nearest bird. Before I reach the bird I notice a fish biting at my right knee. It seems the water is magic and I am growing smaller and the fish seems to think I'm food. I reach into my pocket and pull out a sweetcake to lure it away from my knee.It looks up at me and begins to sing. Oh, it's that bass from the plaque. As he finishes his comforting song ("Don't worry, be happy"), the goose I was headed for swims near, dunks his head into the water and swallows the fish. Before the fish disappears into the birds throat I quickly shove the jar into it's wide mouth. Eat that Billy Bass! Oh no, the bass latched onto my ever-shinking arm and drew me in. Seems I'm going south too.

>Open backpack and feel around inside. There are quite a few things in there, but since it's dark I'll have to guess by feel. Hmm, this must be a roll of undeveloped film, and this feels like a battery. Here's a hand pump, and, oh, here's the grappling hook! Darn, where's the ladder. Ah, good I packed a lighter. I flick it on and look around.

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 05/13/09 02:30 AM

Upon accessing my situation I discover that the lighter is burning really hot and the inside of this bird is cooking like a steambath. Just as the thought of roast duck a l'orange crossed my mind the steam pressure built up and forced a belch the size of a hot air balloon out of the bird and I became instantly airborn. No time to throw the grappling hook over the bird's neck. I'll just have to wing it.... smirk ... As I soar through the air toward what looks like a jungle below I spot a leopard crouched in the tall grass. He's looking right at me and, oh cr*p, is that drool dripping from it's large, shiny teeth?

Seventy feet, I'm still winding up... whistle ... Sixty feet, ok, aim, throw. Fifty feet, I watch the hook make contact with the tree. Forty feet, it grabs! Now, hopefully the rope is less than 40 feet! I fall to ten feet above the ground and the rope goes taut, I swing like a pendulum through the air. I kick back and enjoy the carnival type ride. Then I notice a town as I reach the high end of the arc. It appears to have a market, and a camera shop. Good, I can develope the film while I shop for supplies.

Hi Becky! wave Long time no see. grin

Yes, another little text adventure can be played, loosely inspired by the lyrics of a song. This time the song is Miracle by Ilse DeLange.

Wandering through the desert, finally a house comes in sight. Maybe some water can be found there! Oh no:

Someone put a lock on this old door
It's been beaten up and used and more
It's been kicked a hundred thousand times
Keeping all the memories behind

With the knife you're able to get the cardboard out of the lock. It looks like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle. There's a hint of a cheesy smell to it. With the toothpick of the knife you're able to unlock the door. You're in the hallway. There's a door to the north and one to the west. The exit is in the east.

Being a private investigator, your current employer asked you to search for his missing wife. Earlier clues led you to a house in the outskirts of a small town. It seems there's nobody in the house. The door is locked tightly.

There's a doormat with the word "WELCOME" imprinted on it. The door is to the north, there are exits to the west and the east. To the south you can see the car that brought you here.

>Inventory

In the pocket are just a torchlight and an ID card.

>check under mat

There's no key! Instead you find a small tile, it looks like it's a part of a slider puzzle. There's a partial of an image on it, but too small to recognize what it depicts.

It's sunset, the sky in the west has the colour of the lava of an erupting volcano. Pretty soon it will be dark and the moon will be the only source of light.

After rubbing the tile on the doormat a few seconds, you look at it again. Nothing really changed, just the image has faded a bit. It's probably better to not repeat that action, the tile could be important later in the game.

Wow, there's a mirror on the ID card, you see yourself!
Bummer, it's just a photo of you. The other details that can be seen are the integrated chip and the social security number.

It's time to move around a bit, if only to stretch the legs.

After moving a few steps you're in front of a window. It looks like it's closed firmly, maybe it can be opened some way? Using the torch you can see a book on the table in front of the window. It's a very thin law book.

There are exits to the north and to the east.

Wandering to the north you notice the chapel is months away! However, you see a place that could be a crime scene! The darkness of this night obliges you to use the torch light.
You see blood stains, a photo and another tile.
There's just one exit, to the south.

Maybe it's possible to move the latch with something thin!

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 06/08/09 11:51 PM

Using the ID card you're able to open the window. This looks like it's a bedroom. The law book is really thin, just one page. Something about things going wrong. There's a bloodstained knife on the bed and a little box on the dresser.

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 06/09/09 10:52 PM

After picking up the book, the knife and the box, you go through the door on the north side. It's a bathroom. The shower curtain is closed and there's a torn map of Texas on the wall.
There are exits to the east and to the south.

You have a little hesitation about opening the box, there could be a lot of misfortune inside. You learned that in another one of your cases. After a bit of reconsidering you do open it, inside are two more tiles.

Each clue applies to one word in the title of this adventure game, which was released between 2000 and 2005.

Clue One: A historical character with this first name appears in the movie: Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian.

We've got a thing that's called Radar Love
We've got a wave in the air, Radar Love.

Suddenly a dog crosses the road, with a swift reaction you're able to avoid a collision.
There's a gas station ahead. The fuel gage points at the E, it's time to fill up the tank...

After filling the gas tank you go to the counter. The guy behind it says "Remarkable, I've never seen that type of car with a diesel engine!". Hmm, a little mistake maybe? They don't sell Cheetos her, just Cheapos. Inside the bag is a piece of a jigsaw puzzle.
There's a door to the North leading to the toilets and a door to the West where you entered. The handle looks like it's twisted.

Oh dear, you feel a bit lonely. There are two things you can do, go tap dancing or have look at the piece of the puzzle. Because you don't have any sense of rhythm the last option seems to be the best.

I was beginning to worry that nobody had played this game.

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 07/02/09 05:53 PM

As always, I am shocked to actually guess correctly.
For my turn, I would like to try something different. I thought it might be fun to have you all guess a clue based on the old American gameshow, Password. Here is how it will work. I will give a one word clue for you to guess an inventory item in the game. When the inventory item clue is guessed correctly I will give another one word clue which relates to the title of the game. For example my inventory clue might be: death to which one might guess scythe. Scythe would be correct and the game clue would be casino. Someone then might guess the name of the game Grim Fandango using both clues.

The inventory items and game clues will get more obvious (I hope) as more clues are assembled.

Here we go:
Inventory clue: Lock
Posted By: zookeeper

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 07/03/09 02:58 PM

I'll give this a shot...

Pick?
Posted By: chrissie

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 07/03/09 06:30 PM

Seems easy & interesting orchgamer! so I'll try (lock) Smith?
Posted By: orchgamer

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 07/03/09 06:36 PM

No to both, although better guesses than my actual clue. Here is another for the same inventory clue: unlock (yes, the two clues are 1) lock, and 2) unlock).
To help players who are new to this, sometimes the clue will be part of a compound word like locksmith or it could be just a clue for a synonym of the word. Just keep guessing. It will be clear soon enough!

Re: Name the Game Amusement - 07/16/09 06:07 PM

Thanks Crissy and bravo - your turn again. smile

I just think I should explain each of them, so:
1. Lady in Red (babou was always in ether red or green dress, and she's a lady)
2. Underground passage (you have one in the game)
3. Medieval helpdesk (too general I know, meant to refer to a manuscript, but I just could not resist putting it in - it's so funny)
4. A dovecot is also a place you visit in the game
5. Saturnin - a character
6. St. John the Baptist (Leonardo painted it, the painting is in the game and his finger points to a key)
duh

That's it then - Secrets of Da Vinci - The forbidden manuscript
