Memento Mori - 11/20/09 09:51 PM

As a portuguese i feel deply insulted by the idea given by centauri productions, from Portugal and the portuguese. Do not reduce countries to stereotypes, portuguese ppl dont swear all the time we dont take siestas (a spanish costume that even the spanish dont use anymore), the streets of our country are not trash deposits. Research counts for something when making a game. Lexis Numerique made their homework on Evidence - The Last Ritual on Tomar and the Templars in Portugal, you didnt.

Centauri Produtions YOU FAIL

I understand how you feel, Lohen.

Most developers do research well before putting the story down. Hopefully, all of them will pay closer attention.

Lohen, I really sympathize with you.
I'm italian, and every time there is an Italian in a game must be a Mafia one...unfortunately developers always stereotype countries. frown

Carla, my town of Chicago is always related to the mob also. It never really phases me because the city is so diverse that literally every square mile is of a different flavor and tale to tell. You have to make a game to sell, no one cares about a game about Chicago's beautiful skyline and beaches and theatres, it's much more fun to make a game around the mob or slums.

Just started the Scene in Scotland i was relieved not to be full of savages painted in blue like they stereotype the proud people of Scotland, anyway apart from those fails the scene in Lisbon with Diaz (spanish, portuguese name would be Dias)is normal, a portuguese art forger stalking an actress is very possible as these kind of people can be from anywhere, i'm more angry at ignorance than anything else.

I seriously doubt that a normal person is going to form an opinion about a nation by viewing scenes in an adventure game. Expecting any kind of realistic depiction of any locale in this milieu is chasing rainbows.

Ana, I grew up on the northwest side of Chicago just west of Logan Square, I've heard all the stuff about mobsters endlessly (especially from those who know my mother was Italian), and I just smile and let it bounce off. Now, regarding those rumors about you....shocked

I'm from the DePaul/Lincoln Park area. It was all Italian and German and my best friends parents were really connected to the mob. rotfl

Now, about those rumors you heard, that was not me running with scissors or drawing outside the lines. No sir. Lies, all lies. shame

I tend to react like this since the only portuguese guy (Lusitano) on an Asterix book was portraied as a lazy man smile

Re: Memento Mori - 11/21/09 02:31 AM

I can guarantee you Lohan that I would never think that because the guy in the game was Portugese to mean that that is how all Portugese people are. There are good and bad people in every corner of the world.

Lohen, the same nasty stereotypes about being lazy men existed here in the US about many others at one time, if that's any consolation. I could also recount bad stereotypes about the English, French, Germans, and Italians. No one is immune.

The US is a vast nation and we even have bad stereotypes for each other here, e.g., Wisconsin person = Cheesehead. New York, whether city or state, would rate a complete volume. No one likes New Yorkers; they don't even like themselves, or so it's said. Ask a person from the South (i.e., the old Confederacy) what "Yankee" means and prepare to have your ears burned. So, cheer up and don't take it personally. smile

Re: Memento Mori - 12/02/09 05:14 PM

I thought the worst part was where the main character asks Diaz to interpret and says something along the lines of... you speak Spanish and they're alike right?

What! Had to shake my head for a second. blush

It is a problem, European developed games also are known to apply what I think of as a Euro Disney view of the US & its people when designing stories, characters etc wink

And being a native born Texan, well we do NOT all have cows in our yards.. laugh
