What is the order of other three games?
Does one need to play Mean Streets and Martians Memorandum before third?

You don't need too but I certainly would try and play Martian. It's more of a traditional point and click adventure than Mean Streets and a lot of the characters you see later in the FMV games are in MM, so it kind of makes it cool to see. Plus it's a pretty decent story. Certainly worth visiting at some point but no, not necessary. I started with UAKM and love the series.

I started with Overseer, because at the time I didn't know about the others. I've since played them all except Mean Streets.

the first two games where on a floppy disk & are the old style dos games. they are not sequels they are separate games. Starting at UAKM gives the best start to the games & in overseer it actually gives you run down of the other games.

HI. While the games were originally on floppy disks you can get them from GOG.com and they play very well without all the fiddling, as well as UAKM, Pandora and Overseer. I started with UAKM and only kinda recently found out about MM and Martian.

BubbaJake -- you accidentally double posted, so I'm deleting one post.

I just downloaded The Pandora Directive from GOG. It's playing very smoothly, with only a slight sound stuttering during the opening video sequence. thumbsup

That's been happening all morning. I've been trying to respond to BrownEyedTigre for letting me know about the 'Black Mirror' thing and each time I try to thank her it posts twice! I don't know what's causing it. Thank you for your help.

becky,

just a hint if you have any sound problems while playing the game edit the dosboxtex4.config file & edit the mixer sound details to

[mixer]
# nosound -- Enable silent mode, sound is still emulated though.
# rate -- Mixer sample rate, setting any devices higher than this will
# probably lower their sound quality.
# blocksize -- Mixer block size, larger blocks might help sound stuttering
# but sound will also be more lagged.
# prebuffer -- How many milliseconds of data to keep on top of the blocksize.

nosound=false
rate=22050
blocksize=2048
prebuffer=240 change this line
it actually stops the improves the sound

Mean Streets is the first game, but Overseer is an updated version of virtually the same plot and characters. I have a boxed copy, but mainly to complete the series. I don't think you'd be missing much at all to pass this one unless you wanted to add a nice boxed version to your games collection.

Martian Chronicles has such a great story, typical Tex Murphy characters and dialogues (meaning some of the best) and shouldn't be missed. MM events and relationships come up time to time in UAKM, and a little bit in Pandora.

So MM is the back story to the rest of the series, and is fun all on its own. It might even be better to play it after UAKM (at least) than before. I ended up doing this and was very engaged in the gameplay and plot as I had the vague references from UAKM to egg me on. A lot of fun AHA moments occured while playing these two games in reverse order.

Hi plumgas -- thanks for the info! I've had no problems with sound since the opening video. If I do run into them again, I'll use these tweaks! thanks
