Excellent review, Becky, and spot on!

I will admit, though, that I found the chapter design to the game frustrating at times. It was nonlinear within each chapter, but to progress to another chapter, you had to trigger certain events or finish a mission.

I agree with all the comments. In fact after reading the review (and being a big fan of the author) I contacted a friend of mine in Germany who ordered it for me and will ship it as soon as it arrives. So I'll be receiving it in a couple of weeks rather than several months.

Gray Matter's distribution around the world is quite strange. Here in Poland it is already available in retail since November - so it was no problem getting it for a Christmas present.

Maybe this reflects the fact that the main markets for adventure games have changed and now the smaller countries have publishers who care about the genre the most.

Not a small country, but I noticed especially Russia publishes in retail almost every adventure game possible - including game's that are sold only as downloads in other parts of the world.

Ascovel, you posted that you found "gray matter" under your Christmas Tree. Jenny was asking if the "gray matter" was dust or the game.

It took me a while, Ascovel, but I think JennyP was asking if you got the game or if the "grey matter" under your tree was a dust bunny.

The Gray Matter under my Christmas Tree was the actual game. And I just finished it yesterday.

I think it's not perfect (like GK1 or GK2), but still very good and a true Jane Jensen adventure game.

Thank you Becky for an excellent review! It's seems the troubles I had to get a working download version will be worth it & I'm looking forward to getting stuck in over the weekend (if not before!)

My game is still on order (UK) and I'm very much looking forward to it.

But I must say I "feel" a bit for Jane Jenkins .... If anything and everything she comes up with is always going to get compared to Gabriel Knight

One of the better adventure games I played in recent memory...

But the cutscenes art style ruined the experience a bit for me... It's a real shame. Sometimes it was really hard to figure out what's going on..

Hi Nafsika, I was wondering what games you find memorable?

After a marathon on it I've just finished the game! I re-read your review Becky & think it's such an accurate appraisal of the game! I loved it, thought the story was excellent & the game well-constructed but there were times when it wasn't obvious what to do next. Also I would have preferred the cut scenes to have been more in keeping with the graphics of the gameplay areas. I'm not sure I was so crazy about the last chapter but it did set the scene for a surprising & very satisfactory ending not always achieved so well in many games! For me the game was unforgettable!
