Valued Ghouls of Name the Game - 02/20/11 12:32 PM
We've reached 20 pages on the previous Name the Game thread, and so I'm starting another one. If anyone would like to view the previous Name the Game thread, you'll find Page 1 of the thread
here. For those who are joining us for the first time for Name the Game, this is the procedure:One person (hereinafter known as "It") posts a clue to an adventure game. The clue can be simple or difficult or straightforward or creative. Clues can be information about characters or events or puzzles or more (though we do try to stay away from outright puzzle spoilers).
Everyone who wishes to participate can post the name of the game that best matches the clue. If no one has guessed after a few attempts, "It" gives another clue. The person who guesses correctly then becomes "It" and posts a clue for a different game, and so on. If you've posted a guess, or if you are "It," check back every day to see if you've guessed right or if you need to identify the correct guesser, so the game continues smoothly!
(When thinking up clues, a good place to look for possible ideas is the GameBoomers collection of adventure walkthroughs -- plenty of inspiration there.)
I am currently IT.This is the first clue:
I'm blonde. I'm a princess. The world should be at my feet. So why am I stuck in this adventure game?

Clue #2: A "pocket" garden with flowers and what seems to be a time-keeping device. Surely this means something?
Posted By: Space Quest Fan
Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 02/24/11 10:30 PM
No idea Becky but it sounds pretty unusual.
Posted By: venus
Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 02/25/11 01:30 AM
It almost sounds like The Longest Journey, although Fiona was the one watching a screen saver at the beginning of the game, and she is a female character. (I always found this hysterical, by the way, that she was so riveted to that screen saver.
) TLJ also included a garden and a time keeping device. Though I'm probably wrong, that is my guess.

Clue Four: What an odd room, with children's drawings on the walls. Do they have anything to do with the strange symbols on the walls outside?
Posted By: venus
Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 02/26/11 03:34 PM
Okay, that last clue sounds like Dreamfall. The other clues don't seem to match, though. I'm starting to think this game borrowed heavily from the TLJ universe.
I know, you're probably going to tell me the game predates TLJ and Dreamfall.
Posted By: Becky
Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 02/26/11 09:46 PM
The game released after TLJ and Dreamfall (it's a recent game).
It isn't much like TLJ or Dreamfall.

It was the name of the museum that got me thinking
Anyway, if you think you know my game you should go ahead and give your guess !!

Sorry. It's not
any of the CSI games
So, CLUE TWO :

Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 03/11/11 04:00 AM
Okay, Mad.
It sounds like Still Life to me.
If I'm right, I'll try to make my next game an easy one.
Yeah, Dagger of Amon Ra is a tough one with all the bugs. I far prefer its predecessor, The Colonel's Bequest, but I can't have one without the other, as I have to see Laura's continuing story. I know, it's a sickness.
Posted By: Mad

Okay, I'll try to pick an easy one this time.
First clue may be on the harder side (or not, I tend to be surprised sometimes??

Dracula Origin. My fiance and I quote Van Helsing all the time. "There, perfect. On to the next step." "I am in need of something." "This might be useful. I am taking it."

Next time I'll pay attention to the quotation marks.

Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 03/14/11 02:15 PM
Thanks, traveler. Yes, that ladder in his pocket caused quite a reaction here as well.
Okay, Becky, here are some quotation marks.
This should be another easy game overall.
Clue 1: "Something's casting these shadows. Something very, very close!"
Posted By: niteowl07
Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 03/15/11 01:09 AM
it's a mammoth.
uh-huh.
must be.
Posted By: venus
Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 03/15/11 09:27 AM
Sorry, niteowl, still no mammoths.
Clue 2 (another quote, which may give it away
): "A solid wooden plinth."
Posted By: Becky
Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 03/16/11 05:23 AM
Broken Sword: Angel of Death?
Posted By: venus
Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 03/17/11 03:31 PM
No, sorry, Becky.
Haven't gotten to that point in the Broken Sword series yet, so I don't know if they mention plinths or not.
I do notice that they mention them in a lot of games, but it seemed to start with this game. Unless you count GK1, which was ahead of its time anyway.
Okay, here is another quote. It is regarding a refrigerator our main character comments on. I found it very insightful.
Clue 3: "On the outside, it seems totally normal, but on the inside, it's ice cold."
Posted By: chrissie
Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 03/18/11 09:02 PM
Bump! Another clue is needed please
Venus

Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 03/18/11 11:29 PM
Sorry, chrissie, I was just waiting for a guess because I didn't want to double post.
Next clue coming up.
This one will be my last quote clue. I guess no one else found these quotes as classic as I did
, so I will switch to regular clues if no one guesses it after this one.
Clue 4: This quote is in reference to a radiator.
"It burbles quietly."

Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 03/19/11 03:04 PM
No, not that one.
Okay, here are two clues for the price of one.
Clue 5: Part 1 - The first quote in clue 1 about the very, very close shadow was referencing a key. The character commenting on it delivered it as though he was in a horror game. I guess he finds keys very frightening.
Part 2 - In this game you will have to create a make-shift brailer. Does anyone actually know what a "brailer" is?
Posted By: Chief
Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 03/19/11 03:29 PM
Yes, I remember that word.
But it is not in my small French-English dictionary.
I think MaG invented that word.
The game is Secret Files: Tunguska.
Chief
Posted By: MaG
Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 03/19/11 03:35 PM
Chief.
A brailer is a scoop or net. A long stick with a net at one end. You usually use it for fishing. But when I was a child eons ago - we use it to get ripe fruits on top of tall trees.

Chief

Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 03/19/11 04:05 PM
Yep, that's it, Chief. Your turn.
MaG, I actually knew what a brailer was, but that's only because I looked it up after playing the game.
It's a rather obscure reference to include in an adventure game, and you're putting together a "make-shift brailer" on top of that. Not to mention the plinth and the burbling radiator.
But that's okay, I love this game for its quirkiness.
I still can't get over how Max nervous sounded about that shadowy key.
Posted By: Chief
Re: Mad Rock of Name the Game - 03/19/11 05:04 PM
Very good clues for that game, Venus. Lucky for me you got the word brailer out.
Ok. In this game and in one of the worlds visited, you will do three puzzles.

Becky, I would have guessed Moment of Silence, too.
As to your game - it isn't the new Goin' Downtown, is it? I have some other games in mind, but this is the first one I thought of.
Don't know if we're allowed to guess more than one game, so I'll leave it at that.

The country isn't in Scotland, the country is in the title and the Scottish town where the game is set is also in the title.
The town in the title is Smellum, you only have to find out how to spell that.
(if you look at a list of Middle Eastern countries, the name of one of them should ring a bell adventurewise)
