Gray Matter is just fun and,well...beautiful! - 03/20/11 08:21 PM

The Timmons Park areas in GM are some of the most drop-dead beautiful environments of any 2D adventure game I've ever played!
This is a truly fun adventure. Everything,even the theme song, is outstanding.
I'm so glad Jane Jensen and company decided to produce this game!

OK,one small thing: why only 20 saved-game slots? I've used them all up already and I'm only in chapter 5!
Anyway,any GBers should pick this up when given a chance. It's a treat.

Yes, Gray Matter is the best game I've played this year - which is saying a lot, as this has been an excellent year for games - and one of the better games I have played, period. bravo Not surprising, since it's a Jane Jensen game.

Monbron, you should try the Gabriel Knight series, if you haven't already. As good as Gray Matter is, I think the Gabriel Knight games are even better, even more complex. They are all available at Good Old Games. thumbsup

Sooo looking forward to playing this. Alas, I have to wait a while because I am currently on the road for work for twelve weeks, and there's no way my laptop will be able to handle the game!

Am I right in thinking that I can only get Gabriel Knight on download, as my download speed is so slow I don't usually bother? I would buy the discs if I could I use XP if anyone has any ideas!! thanks

You can get GK3 from Play for a fiver.

The first game will be quite a small file so shouldnt take that long. GK2 on the other hand uses FMV so that would be more of a problem. Ebay might be an option.

Is it just my imagination, or does anyone else think that Dr. David Style's voice sounds remarkably like that of the late British actor Richard Burton,only a bit more gruff?

Thanks Rushes, I ordered #3 from Play.com, I checked out 1 and 2, ridiculous prices on Amazon so I went to GOG, if I download from them can I copy to disc to save spending hours waiting to redowload at another date??

Monbron, yes, GOG has no DRM, so you can definitely save your games on a disk, and there is no activation. smile

DRM = Digital Rights Management
With games it usually means copy "protection" -- like the StarForce v3 that keeps people from being able to play games like the original issue Black Mirror on a computer with Vista or Windows 7 unless they use a NoCD. And like SecuROM and similar copy "protections" that have been known to cause problems with the burning capabilities of DVD writer drives because of filter drivers the DRM installs, which conflict with other software or with other copy "protections." And then there's the type of DRM where your game doesn't work without "activation" which is dependent on a server somewhere out on the Internet -- and which often limits the number of times you can install and activate the game. GOG and DotEMU are blissfully free of these sorts of restrictions.

Re: Gray Matter is just fun and,well...beautiful! - 03/25/11 07:09 PM

Right I'm back with questions? I have downloaded GK1 no problem, I found it in programme files, so I should be able to burn it to disc - 'should' being the operative word. I have some old discs CD-R 700mb or DVD+RW 4 X 2hr, no idea how much mb, I know I have asked this question before but which should I use?

Next question I looked at GK2 and it is 2.4 KB, I am assuming that there are better discs out there which will hold at least half of this?? also it took me 56 minutes to download GK1 370 mb, will it really take me nearly 7 hours to download GK2??

insane

Just finished this long awaited game. I was not disappointed. Even the music was hauntingly familiar. I can foresee , using my magic powers, yess...just there, Is that a sequel I see in the distance? There is certainly more work to be done. Thanks Jane, don't wait so long to saddle up this time.
Good show!

@monbron

You say you found GK1 in your Program Files directory? Do you mean it is there after you installed it? It certainly shouldnt have downloaded to there.

As the GK1 is only 350 mb then the CD would be ok for that.

GK2 is more likely to be 2.4Gig than 2.4k. All DVDs hold at least 4 Gigs so that is what you would use for that.

What speed is you connection BTW? It sounds like dialup

Re: Gray Matter is just fun and,well...beautiful! - 03/28/11 10:18 AM

mj2c - Yep as you will see from Glitches I have finally got the game to run after 4 downloads and it is definitely in Programme files. I am on Broadband but only 1mb as that is all that is available in my area and I've only had that about 3 years and I only live 20 miles from London, but in the country so we are not a priority. I can see downloading GK2 will take all night so I want to be sure I know what I am doing next time as I really don't want to reload 4 times again. I note you say I need a DVD for GK2 I managed to burn GK1 on a CD-R 700mb, whether it will run or not I have yet to find out, however I will check around for DVDs for burning GK2 - Thanks for your help thanks
