So it isn't on Kickstarter and they are just going to make an announcement on the 20th?

Yes, not yet on Kickstarter but I think that the announcement from Chris Jones (the designer of the Tex Murphy's games) hardly mean anything else that it will be there.

I hope that this isn't someones idea of a joke. That poster created the account just recently and was their first post.

Would I be thrilled if this is indeed true?...you bet I would!. Would I contribute to any effort to bring back Tex for another mystery?...Definitly, and not just a few dollars. I donated nothing for the Double Fine Kickstarter because I wasn't fond of any of their other games and have no intentions or interest in what they want to do now....but Tex...I have goose bumps just thinking about it. My fingers are actually crossed that they can top the number that Double Fine has received.

Thank you for the best news of an adventure game I have read in years. bravo

The reason I am so skeptical is that this site has been around and very loooong time and I would have thought that Chris would have had an account started many years ago. My heart is pounding so I am being cautious and hope that I am wrong...yes, GreyFuss wants to be wrong. wink

http://unofficialtexmurphy.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3695

this is real, & chris jones hasn't posted personally on the forum for years. No doubt he has forgotten his original password he made years ago. since the post generated originally from big finish games face book you can be assured that its real. I don't beleive it has anything to do with kickstarter but I could be wrong. We have been waiting for a offical announcement date about a new game or something after the message in the overseer review files posted on youtube.

some time ago aaron connors posted on tex murphy forum under a new login name as he forgot his password & no-one beleived it was him...LOL he told us he knew now how moses felt!

Plumgas, that is the same link as in the original post. Click on the word soon in Jiri's post.

Thanks for the additional info.

If they do a Kickstarter for Tex Murphy, I'm in.

Re: Tex Murphy on Kickstarter? - 03/16/12 03:21 PM

I like the idea of game designers using kickstarter to raise funds because it allows them an outlook as to how successful the game will do before hand. Sorta like a survey! Also, maybe the best way to fight pirating in that (most) everyone who wants the game will pre-pay. Yes, we can always pre-pay for games but the difference here is that if "we" don't, the game may not get made. I'll contribute to Tex on kickstarter as I did with Double Fine.

I CANNOT believe it! Suppose they have been building the game of games for some of the 14 years hiatus...
Now, I've seriously scared myself.

Re: Tex Murphy on Kickstarter? - 03/17/12 06:36 PM

Does anyone know if Kickstarter takes a percentage of the donations?
Posted By: BrownEyedTigre

Re: Tex Murphy on Kickstarter? - 03/17/12 09:09 PM

Kickstarter gets a 5% commission if the funding was successful. No charge if it wasn't.

Amazon charges a 2-5% credit card fee also if the project is successful.

Re: Tex Murphy on Kickstarter? - 03/17/12 09:30 PM

Thanks for the information Sheriff

That amounts to a lot when we are talking about a million or more dollars. I will have to re-evaluate any contributions with this type of collection. As far as the Tex Murphy game I would much prefer them to run there own donation campaign and keep all the money for the development of the game. I have nothing against these collection sites but I would rather have my money go directly to the developer for a game I would really want created. Just my opinion.

Re: Tex Murphy on Kickstarter? - 03/17/12 09:38 PM

I like the developer to get the most money as well Greyfuss, I understand that. I do think that all things considered that is a very reasonable commission though if you think anout it. Just think at the chunk of money a publisher gets for a game. The developer is lucky to get paid (sadly in many cases they have received nothing). For this, I am happy to see the developer get funding for the game which guarantees them the money up front. I just hope the delivered game is worth the money invested.
I will be very selective of those I will contribute to.

Re: Tex Murphy on Kickstarter? - 03/17/12 10:10 PM

Of course you are right Sheriff, being selective is the way to go. I certainly wouldn't contribute to any new developer or unknown. If my math is correct that other big draw game at Kickstarter went over 3 million dollars, would Kickstarters take then be one hundred and fifty thousand? I dare say that amount of cash would be welcomed by any new indie developer. To me that just sounds way too much to be taken away from what the donors are giving for, the game.

Re: Tex Murphy on Kickstarter? - 03/17/12 10:34 PM

I don't see why they wouldn't get the full 5% on Double Fine's adventure, they fullfilled their part of the deal. My question is more if Double Fine needed 400 thousand, will there really be 3 million dollars in improvements on the game with that much over the original amount?

Re: Tex Murphy on Kickstarter? - 03/17/12 10:45 PM

for those people in the UK gamer magazine has a good article with aaron connors with a secret little box thats gives the secret away.
and it doesn't mention kickstarter.

Re: Tex Murphy on Kickstarter? - 03/17/12 10:48 PM

Right again Sheriff. They should get the cash if they fulfilled their part of the deal. My point is that the third party (donors) that is not part of the deal is the one that pays. Thats all I am saying. I wouldn't have an issue if there was a flat fee for a donation drive for x amount of days but I have an uneasy feeling that one hundred and fifty thousand of the donors money seems too much to be taking out of their generous, good intention pockets.

Re: Tex Murphy on Kickstarter? - 03/17/12 11:18 PM

Good points Greyfuss, and that is reason I stopped giving to charities and do my donations in other charitable ways that I know go to the recipient and not to someone going on vacation with my money. This is all something we need to think about when we contribute.

The nice thing is no one is obligated to contribute and the games are still available to purchase when completed.I hope that no ones ever feels pressured to participate or feels bad that do not have a lot to give. This is purely voluntary.

Thanks Plumgas...I am still excited to possibly having another Tex adventure in the future. If my memory serves me correctly Chris and Aaron already had the next games story written for release after Overseer and I believe had a name picked out with Fedora in it.

I made a mistake the article is with chris jones & it does mention fedora as the title

Re: Project fedora announcement - 03/20/12 11:37 PM

well at least we will get the game with full FMV if the funding is good. Never thought we would ever see another pandora quality game again.

So everyone they want testimonials so they can build this video to advertise for the funding.
