Remember a game....?

Remember a game....? - 05/09/12 07:17 PM

I'm trying to remember a game I played several years ago. It was a fantasy, point/click game. The only things I remember are a scene of a big old barn/house and there were symbols or constellations on the ceiling. At the end of the game you make your way to an island and are plunged into a brilliant blue whirlpool/well. Does this sound familiar?

Sorry Joan, it's not ringing a bell for me.

Hmm....it vaguely reminds me of Amber:Journeys Beyond, but am not positive. I'm going to go peek at some screenshots here on the net and see if I can find something that rings a bell. smile

EDIT: Okay, just came back from Moby Games (they are my go-to site for screenshots!) and after looking at everything they had, I didn't see anything that resembled this, unfortunately. Sorry about that, Joan and I hope you find the game you're looking for!

Tracy, who now has the urge to play Amber Journeys Beyond! I can't believe it's been 16 years since that game came out!

Okay, will stop thread-jacking now. lol

How about Beyond Atlantis? (Sometimes called Atlantis II) You get transported through a book in the monk's abbey to a big "room" in the sky with all kinds of mystical symbols on the ceiling. In another part of the game you ride a white horse across the water to an island and eventually end up going down a well, I think to get a magic crystal or something like that. Anyway, that was one of my favorite games from years gone by.

YES! Beyond Atlantis! THAT'S IT! I recognize the screenshots.
Don't ask me why I got that game stuck in my head but couldn't remember the title. Thanks SuMac! Now I want to play it again.

I think Beyond Atlantis was one of the all-time greats. It was also the game that got me connected with GameBoomers. I had called Dreamcatcher to try to order the walk-thru from them. The girls on the phone said it was on back-order, but she could give me the name of a web-site that might help me. And the rest is history!

It's amazing how difficult it can be to guess a game from people's descriptions, even if you're very familiar with the game. People remember such different things from games. I expect most people would think of the galloping white horse from Beyond Atlantis rather than the symbols on the ceiling or the blue whirlpool/well.

That's so true, Jenny100 !!

I've been shocked many a time to find out a scene or a character someone is describing is one I'm actually very familiar with and yet didn't recognise from their description woozy

Beyond Atlantis was so hard without help - I can see why you called Dreamcatcher and then found this site. It's one of my favorites.

Is Beyond Atlantis the same as Beyond Atlantis 11.

There is a Beyond Atlantis and a Beyond Atlantis II. They are different games. Beyond Atlantis is the 2nd game in series and Beyond Atlantis II is the 3rd game in series if I'm not mistaken. I do know they are two different games for sure.

All the Cryo Atlantis Games are listed HERE along with box art - which might help to identify which game is which laugh

Atlantis 1 and 2 are my favourite adventures of all time (one is definitely The Lost Tales, two is Beyond Atlantis).

If you find a way to get them to work on Windows 7 (although I am under Windows 8 now), please let me know how you accomplished this feat.

I had so much trouble even to get them to work on XP, but I'm sure I will give it a try again soon. These are games you just must play again and again, the music for one is just amazing. I bought the soundtrack on CDs and I still listen to them regularly when I have to correct one of my books like right now.

I bought Atlantis III part 1 on iTunes for the iPad. Does anyone know if part 2 and 3 are coming, and if the other Atlantis games in the series will move to the iPad? It would solve my compatibility problem.

OMG, kjos! As you said they are on GOG.com, and they're not expensive and they should work on:

Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit).

I am going to buy them now! Thank you!

(Dear, dear, other games I must buy again just because somehow I could not get them to work. Someone will have to stop Microsoft from updating Windows every year or so...)

I remember those Atlantis games - bits of them anyway. And my favorite 'scene' was when I got to walk on the ceiling looking for specific animals in a specific order - that was so strange yet intriguing to me. Love those games. Must find time to get from GOG and play them again. Thanks for the 'walk down memory lane'
Love, Betty Lou

I am now on the island Carbonek and I have just gone through inside a river to get to a cave so I can save the Queen Rhea. So I believe this is the game you were talking about: Atlantis The Lost Tales (Atlantis 1).

It is possible you also go through water in the other Atlantis games, but as soon as I read your first post I only thought of the first one. I think the constellations are behind the throne when you are trying to escape the palace on Atlantis.

I bought it from Gog and it works without problems on Windows 8. It is so weird to play it in English, I have played it dozens of times in French. My screen is large and it is pixelated, the solution is to move away from the screen. I play from the sofa and it is still as beautiful as I remember. I love the threat of storm with thunder on the island. I think it rains later on too.

There was a point when I was younger when I would have given anything to live on Atlantis and the island Carbonek of this game. And I certainly did, albeit only virtually. grin
