Eleusis is a 3d first-person adventure game for Windows developed by Nocturnal Works using the technology of the unreal engine. It takes place in a seemingly abandoned village in Greece where the player character, while trying to seek refuge, finds himself in the center of a whirlwind of mysterious events. As the plot unfolds he finds clues that indicate that the village is a nest of a cult which plans to revive a dark force through an ancient ritual and harness its power. The player character faces the challenge of unlocking the forgotten knowledge of the ancient mysteries in order to stop the cult from accomplishing their goal.

Uh. Keyboard controls.

Gil.

Re: Eleusis - A New 3D Mystery Adventure Game - 02/26/13 03:11 PM

You're right, Gil. I couldn't spot any mention of that on the site. A review at dadsgamingaddiction site says:

The controls are not rebindable, but are fairly simple for the game’s purposes. The WASD keys move the player around, left shift runs, left control crouches, the “F” and “L” keys activate your flashlight and lantern, respectively, “I” opens your inventory, “J” opens your journal, and “Space Bar” jumps.

Additionally: "At present, the game automatically saves your progress [only] when you complete an important objective or unlock the next area."

So manual saving doesn't seem to be possible.

Re: Eleusis - A New 3D Mystery Adventure Game - 02/26/13 04:14 PM

Oh, dear !! I can cope with keyboard controls but I do dislike the idea of no manual saving eek

Thanks for pointing that out, Rushes smile

Re: Eleusis - A New 3D Mystery Adventure Game - 02/27/13 03:21 AM

I am moving part of this to Hints since it's more related to how to play the game than the actual game itself.

Re: Eleusis - A New 3D Mystery Adventure Game - 02/27/13 04:10 AM

Mad, the auto saves are not that far apart, at least in Chapter one.

And generally speaking, the controls are easy: move forward with the W key and use the mouse to pan or turn left and right.

The hand icon is also easy to use when checking or taking objects as long as you are at the right place to click on it.

Hi, Ana. This game reminds me of "Dear Esther". I'm playing the demo, and IF I can access a TEXT WT, i won't hesitate to purchase it. That'a hint, Mag. LOL

Sandy, let me see what I can do about that WT.

But it will take me a few days to write it.

I'm wondering why some games use the keyboard for movement. Don't they know most adventure gamers prefer using the mouse? To me, it's more hassle to use the keyboard. IMHO

Totally agree with this. I wonder if it is simply easier (i.e., cheaper) to write code for keyboard control than point-and-click.

Re: Eleusis - A New 3D Mystery Adventure Game - 02/28/13 06:44 PM

Oh wonderful, I have been looking for adventures using the unreal engine. I hope it gets closer to the quality of those expensive to make best sellers that I will never play, like those RPGs or FPSs. I really look forward to this one.

The Demo looks a bit like Amnesia and I saw the full version I $17.99. I will haave to consider the buy option a bit later as I have some games I would like to play in the meantime.

Re: Eleusis - A New 3D Mystery Adventure Game - 03/12/13 05:21 PM

THere is an update to the game available I am just not sure how you get it yet. lol

Quote:
This is the first of the two major planned updates. In this one all known gameplay bugs and issues have been fixed and more hints have been added to ensure a smooth gameplay for all players. See changelog for the full list.

The second planned update will add new horror elements to the game. We are currently working on adding an new threat to the player that will enhance the gameplay experience. Moreover, there will be optimization of the DX11 features and a bindable keys option will be added. We estimate this second update to be released next week so we suggest anyone who wants to enjoy the new features of the game to wait until then.

Also a Mac release is in our future plans.

Thanks Greyfuss, I have that link in the first post, it just does not say how to get the update if you already purchased. I sent them an email.

They are part of the original announcement in the first post of this thread. duh

Sometimes I can be such a dolt. I thought this was a new thread since it opened at the top of the page but alas my doltness didn't see that it was page 2.

I see what you mean, on Desura they make the announcement of the updated version 1.1 but don't say how to get it.

Nice, something to add to the walkthrough.

EDIT: I'll wait next week for the second update.

Re: Eleusis - A New 3D Mystery Adventure Game - 03/12/13 05:45 PM

That's correct Greyfuss. They sent me the announcement but no directions.

Here is the answer
Quote:
The update is automatically done on Desura. Currently the game is only available on Desura so the people that purchased it have already the updated version.

I bought the game for $14.99 from Desura the other day and finished it last night. I had fun playing the game even with the auto save feature which I'm usually not a fan of.

The game is what I might like. Because the game is inventory based....Love the screenshots, BUT.....Keyboard is used to play is not up my alley, plus...I think I might get motion sickness <Sigh>

Re: Eleusis - A New 3D Mystery Adventure Game - Updated 4/8 - 04/09/13 02:29 AM

They have decided to go a bit to much to the action side for my taste and thus will not update the walkthrough.

But I'm sure that many action players will like the latest version of this game.

Have fun with the game and good luck to the developer.

AWww, I am sorry to hear that. Can it still be played as adventure only?
Posted By: Chief

Re: Eleusis - A New 3D Mystery Adventure Game - Updated 4/8 - 04/09/13 03:02 AM

Sorry to say no. The game is now version 1.2 after they added new elements from version 1 and then from version 1.1

Re: Eleusis - A New 3D Mystery Adventure Game - Updated 4/8 - 04/12/13 07:21 PM

Okay, so, you have to fight in this game? Rats... frown
Posted By: Chief

Re: Eleusis - A New 3D Mystery Adventure Game - Updated 4/8 - 04/12/13 09:17 PM

Imari, no fighting, but eluding and running away.

You can also throw things.

You have to elude and/or run away from a monk and a wolf.

The story line did not change from the first version.

I'm sure that some expert in action games will find it easy to play.

No kidding. I watched part of a "Let's Play" of it on YouTube and the motion sickness it produced was terrible.
