I am just curious if anyone can think of any A to A+ game reviews that have been done here? Most of what I see are rated B and I really enjoy these games...So I would like to see what is considered an A+ without going thru every review...Just curious as maybe I have missed playing one of them

There are two that I can think of offhand, although I am sure there are more; these games stand out for me because I have recently looked at both of these reviews.

Agatha Christie: And Then There Were None

And this game received an overall rating of A:

Dead Reefs

I remember quite a few people here disliking Dead Reefs due to its keyboard interface and giving up on the game for that reason. I thought the atmosphere, music, and storyline in this game were great, and I would give it an A as well. wave

Thank you Marian...I thought the Agatha Christie was a good game a lot of the B ratings I see are games that are as good or better so each to their own as far as reviews go I think...Unless they are totally unbiased...I have never played Dead Reefs for the keyboard factor alone...I have never played Grim Fandango for that matter either...lol

hamer,

You get used to the arrow key movement in Grim very quickly and as long as you pay attention to where Manny looks, you'll do fine.
The problem is finding a copy of Grim but it is, oh, so worth it!

Lost Horizon, Black Mirror II and The Book of Unwritten Tales got A grades from the GB reviewers.
Zork Grand Inquisitor got an 'all over the place amalgam of bad to wonderful for various aspects of the game but play it, it's a classic' grade. grin

There are a bunch of A's in there if you keep looking.

Thank you Traveler... I have played all of those and they are great games.....Maybe GOG will one day be able to do Grim Fandango

Hamer, I assume you've already played The Longest Journey and the Gabriel Knight games? How about The Lost Crown and Gray Matter? These would be my first recommendations. And if you don't mind just a little (not too difficult) action, there is Dreamfall as well as The Walking Dead - they are both more story oriented than gameplay oriented, however, so it all depends on what it is you're looking for.

You're not the only wishing GOG will one day have access to Grim Fandango. grin They would have to be able to obtain rights to the Lucas Arts games through Disney at this point, however, which I imagine would be very difficult to do.

The guidelines are here in case you want to know how they were derived.

Re: Game reviews - 08/08/13 07:58 PM

I read the guidelines for reviews that is why I was wondering which games have actually scored A to A+ as most reviews for games I consider that high are actually B ratings mostly. Some of the games that do have A ratings that have been mentioned are equally as good as some B and C rated games here.. The ones rated A mentioned in this thread though are worth the A rating, I was just curious about other A rated games here that I may have missed playing.. book of unwritten tales was a B- grade here tho not an A....Thank you all though

hamer,

It was The Book of Unwritten Tales: the Critter Chronicles that scored a B- from gremlin.
I heartily concur.
It was nowhere near as good as BoUT.

Yes you are right Traveler Book of unwritten tales was much better and deserved the A

As one of the reviewers, I'd like to claim that only really, really, really good games get As and A+s, but as game reviewing is such subjective thing, every review has to come with a 'your mileage may vary' (YMMV) caveat smile

Re: Game reviews - 08/09/13 12:21 AM

I have been thinking about downloading THe Book of Unwritten Tales from the App Store as it is one of the few adventure games available for the Mac. All the reviews have been great, but it costs $30.00 !!!I'm not really into the fantasy, dragons, wizards, etc, genre, but I'm practically desperate for something good to play on my Mac. Do you guys think it's worth it?

SuMac,

Do you plan to play it on a PC?
I'm not sure about your reference to an 'App store'.

If you do, GOG has it for Windows and Mac for $19.99.

And oh, yeah, BoUT is a lot of fun.
It is definitely worth getting.

MaG,

I don't think ShinyLoot has it for Mac, though, do they?
I didn't see a mention of it.
Bummer, if not.
That's a very good price.

Re: Game reviews - 08/10/13 12:51 AM

No, I wanted it for my iMac that I bought last summer. There are very few adventures games available in the App Store. I can play some of my newer Nancy Drew's on my Mac, and I did find a couple of adventure games and a couple of Mystery Case File HOG's there. But when I saw BOUT listed with good reviews I thought I would check it out.

Great, so you can get BoUT from GOG for your iMac and save ten bucks. <g> Go for it!
