Given Tim Schafer and Double Fine's current track record of not finishing anything, do you really expect to see this happen in your lifetime?
Tim Schafer talks a good game but can you believe him?

Consider the number of games DF has started since Broken Age was funded two years ago to the tune of three million (Massive Chalice, Spacebase, Hack & Slash, possibly others since I've stopped keeping up) plus whatever funds they got from early access on Steam, and Broken Age is still not ready...nor are the others.
Compare that to games made on a tiny budget with a tiny team, started later and already released and playable...such as Jan Kavan and Lukas Medek's absolutely beautiful J.U.L.I.A.: Among the Stars.

I love Grim and while I see no real need for a 'remaster' I'm far from averse to those who have never played it being lured by a remaster into its world so they can see what a great game it is and why it consistently makes the list of top adventure games; but unless Sony (or someone) stands over Tim Schafer with an army of accountants who force him to stay on budget and finish the project in a reasonable amount of time, I honestly don't see it happening.

Actually, Hack 'n' Slash was released Sept 9th, SpaceBase is leaving early access and is releasing in a few weeks and Massive Chalice is still in production but it's a larger game. Grim Fandago may not release as quickly as they like, but I believe it will get there. As many developers can attest to, sometimes their grand visions take a bit longer to come to fruition.

Then again, I prefer to look at most things with a positive outlook.

Well, I'm jumping up and down with joy. This could "shake up" the adventure gaming world as it slowly comes to fruition. Yes, we really DO like these kinds of games and will spend our money on them, so make more of them! While I enjoy a good casual game now and then, after awhile I just find them monotonous, so bring on the Grim Fandango remaster!

If you read the Double Fine forums, your take on the games made since Broken Age was announced, particularly Space Base, might not be so positive, Ana.
I'm not going into all that as those who are interested can read all about it themselves, but I will ask why Massive Chalice was started before Broken Age was, well, broken and left unfinished, as it's still unfinished?
And now Tim Schafer is taking on Grim?
Grand visions seem to belong to men whose desire and determination push them to completion of their dream.
Tim Schafer seems to be scattering his focus in all directions and it doesn't leave me with any great belief in him.
It does leave me with more respect for the publishers who've had him to deal with.
Never thought I'd say that.

Well I'm a "half glass full" person and I'm absolutely willing to believe that a re-mastered Grim Fandango can be brought to fruition.

AND I'm willing to wait for however long it might take !!!! dance dance dance

I wish I had the slightest idea how that applies to Tim Schafer promising and not delivering more than a spark.

After more than two years and an abysmal track record, it's not Mr. Schafer's enthusiasm that concerns me.
Winston Churchill might not be so blithe about that definition of success if he had to wait and wait and wait to see results from someone else.
I believe he was referring to his own enthusiasm there and not to the people who might or might not believe in or support him.

I really don't see what the water level in a glass has to do with it.
This is not about optimism or pessimism, it's about reality.

But then, I really don't see the willingness to defend developers who continually promise a functional, well made game and fail to deliver in a reasonable amount of time, making excuse after excuse when they don't if they bother to excuse themselves at all, while other developers work their tails off to do exactly what they say they will...and if possible, more.

Well, perhaps Broken Age will be finished before the century is out and Grim will be remastered rapidly and well.
They do say miracles happen.

What I don't understand is the need to time and time again turn a perfectly fine, informative, good news post into a soapbox. My only entertainment is placing bets before I post on how long it will take, but that has long lost it's charm too.

"

Well, for me, being an optimist rather than a pessimist is a way of life so all "real" issues are included yes

Although, right now, how can this particular issue be classed as "reality" ??
It's all still in the future lol

Re: Grim Fandango Remastered Video Update 2 - 09/22/14 05:25 PM

Well said, Mad! I'm with you... being an optimist is a way of life for me and IS my reality. I would much rather hope for the best than constantly expect the worst. Pessimism is too negative for me... Given all the things that have happened in my life, I know it's too darned short to constantly be negative.
