Lack of adventure gam es and syberia 3 - 12/01/14 08:51 PM

This is not a surprise adventure games are not available anywhere, but, everywhere I go and ask the retailers tell me there are lots of gamers asking for them. If any become available they are gone in a flash and liquidation stores say the same thing. Why, this is an untapped market now, not everybody wants to download. This is a case of electronics makers saying to **** with you we made our money and now you don't matter. By the way I was on Benoit Sokals site and apparently there is going to be a GENUINE Syberia 3, one can only hope. Happy holidays

Wouldn't that be nice to have Syberia 3 teresa. I have the other two games and I should play them again really loved the games. I don't know if they will play on win.7 though. One of these days I will try. I just came from walmart and they usually have a lot of games but I didn't see hardly any. Some HO games.

There are some great adventure games out right now, but they are almost all downloads only. There is virtually nothing on the shelves in stores any more.

I disliked the idea of downloaded games at first, but have come to accept it. At least there are still new adventure games being released that we can play. wave

Teresa. we covered Syberia 3 since they announced it, this is the latest thread here.

Times change and download is here to stay. It allows the developers to make enough hopefully to make another game. It isn't going to change.

Nearly all adventure games are download-only, with the exception of Nancy Drew games and grossly overpriced box versions on Kickstarter (often $100 or more over the price of the download version).

Many developers went out of business and others barely scraped by because they weren't paid for their work by publishers such as Dreamcatcher, Digital Jesters, Lace Mamba, etc. There didn't seem to be any honest publishers of disc versions, so most adventure game developers have gone to companies that sell through downloads.

But yes they lose those potential customers who want a disc version in a box, whether they want something to put under the Christmas tree or because they like having something physical to hold in their hands.

I can tell kjos that syberia 1 and 2 are on dvd for windows 7. I found them in a second hand store (I go to some weird places) I love theses two and play them often. I also guard my xp games and am very selfish about them. When it was announced xp was being discontinued, I realized my collection of games were going to be obsolete soon. So I bought parts and my son built
me a new xp that will last a long time. Now I have the best of both worlds, can play what I want on what I want. Didn't see the news about syberia 3, ill give it a check.

I've come not only to accept but to actually prefer downloads, as long as they are DRM-free. Much more convenient to have your game library on a hard drive instead of having them take up all that physical space. I've actually ripped all my CD/DVD:s with adventure games to hard drive too and put away most game boxes for good.

My 2 cents of course. I can see situations where a physical version may be preferred. But most of those still need activation and even som additional downlad these days, so...

I haven't been able to get any physical copies of games here for about 2 or so years in the stores. I get some old ones from allvideo...but it looks like downloads are here to stay!

I don't go to High Street stores any more - there are hardly ever any Adventure games to be had there - but here in the UK I am still managing to get some disk versions of games. Usually via Amazon UK or Ebay or other on-line sites yes

Getting an adventure game onto the shelf in the big three in the U.S., WMT, TGT, BBY, is probably impossible for an adventure game. First, WMT probably wouldn't want to carry it since it doesn't "fit" their customers, and because they see adventure games as a small niche. They'd rather carry big name RPGs, FPS, Simulation games, Hidden Object packs, and casino/slot machine games. If it's not on WMT, then it's probably not profitable to get into BBY and TGT which sell a fraction of the games that WMT does.

Frazap, I agree with you about preferring only DRM games, but unfortunately, there are a few game sites like STEAM and ZODIAC being the only places you can purchase some games because those sites have exlusive rights to those games. If you want a game badly enough, you are forced to buy them from one of those non-drm sites.
